LA losing to Buffalo 7-0 .. the coaching change has fizzled already.. emptied their emotional tank vs. the Oilers..

They definitely played that game against us like it was game 7 of the finals. Hope they crater hard

Would be fun if Ottawa will start taking full wind up slap shots into the EN against the Laffs from now on. Other teams welcome to join in too of course!

Evander Kane would 100% do this against Toronto if given the chance. Then he would get suspended for 5 games.

Leafs media offended that the league is making them play an afternoon game tomorrow. Looking at this season's schedule, they have exactly 2 games that start before 7PM eastern.
The Friday after Thanksgiving and Presidents day (tomorrow). How much is the league babying this team?

Monahan trying to show up his old team with a couple goals against the Lames.

Canucks almost having a PDO correction night, but the hockey gods still let them score 6 goals in 19 shots after they let in 8 so far vs the Wild. JT Miller gets his seasons shooting % back over the 20% mark.

edit: Monahan hat trick lol

Some craziness in Calgary and Minnesota...makes me wondering if "gambling" played any role in how these games came about

Is that Tocchet's secret to success? Canucks players all make a few hundred k per game bonus on the side if they win with Tocchet's underground gambling connections? :) I could actually see that being a way to sustain a multi-decade high PDO.

^Maybe Gretzky's wife is back in the fold too lol

With regards to hockey, I never saw this as being prevalent...but with major sports leagues going the extra mile to show they're in bed with legalized gambling institutions these days...it's much harder taking my mind off of the possibilities....

Fair point...I think the NFL is probably a bigger problem with point shaving possibilities...52+ players on a roster...while the best quarterbacks can take up to 20-33% of a team's cap space (in the past, the best QBs took up 10-17% max leaving more money on the table for other roster players).

IMHO I think the NHL could be more susceptible for manipulation.. the officials have almost no effective accountability or scrutiny by either media or the NHL... and its a much more complicated, faster paced game.. easy to ignore infractions in the normal play without getting criticized for it.. the NFL gets scrutinized pretty severely by a lot of outside people.. and their media is a lot less compliant.. they will call out poor officiating..

If you consider just players, I agree that NFL has more active parts in a game, 52 players.. any of which could affect a game result.. especially QB!

Dangit. Tanev to the Stars for...not a whole lot. 50% salary retained too. Surely we could have done better than that.

Holland likely not even trying to upgrade D. Stauffer only talks about adding a forward from the snippets I've heard.

Holland might be in lazy mode with his own poor cap management as a built in excuse.

Dont forget the post deadline press conference;
"we were in on players"
"did you expect me to get things for free"
"Corey Perry was our deadline add"

I hope I am wrong as this team needs some pieces but the stars are aligning for Holland whiff

I'm a little scared based on Stauffer and other media guys wish lists that the Oilers might be looking for depth grit, rather than anyone impactful.

The cap management is challenging for the Oilers (who just gave up another quarter million of next year's cap tonight), and Holland is on record saying that he doesn't like short-term rentals, so I wonder how much we'll see them do to patching any holes here.

Hopefully it's not just a Jerrod Smithson kind of year going in to the most critical post-season this team has had since 1992...

Spectacular night on the out of town scoreboard. 'Nucks, Knights, and Kings all lose. Oilers gain without even playing.

'Nucks +21 over .500
Oilers +15
Knights +13
Kings +11

All of a sudden 'Nucks don't seem uncatchable, Knights are in a bit of a freefall, and Kings are right back in it.

Nucks greatly inflated PDO which they've been riding all season long is finally starting to normalize.

Good news! They're still running a multi-decade high PDO at 5v5. Lots of room left to drop :)

HNIC pre-show is just Leafs Lunch. Don't even mention any other games.

Toronto doesn't care about the rest of Canada. This isn't news. Your mistake was tuning into Leafs Lunch and expecting anything different.

LA put Aaron Dell on waivers. Should the Oilers claim him so if something happens to Skinner, Caampbell isn't the answer?

Oil would have to keep Dell on the roster, no? Cap space is the priority going into the deadline and this might be the safest time to waive someone.

Colorado letting Byram go is a surprise. But get Walker and Mittelstadt. Byram not tracking like they hoped I guess, plus Walker is RHD instead of LHD. So balances their roster better.

Plus they manage to dump Johansen's boat anchor contract.

Impressive day for Colorado.

Didn't the Preds eat up half of his cap hit when trading him to the Avs though?

Dude has one more year on his contract expiring in Summer 2025....wonder who claims as Flyers immediately put him on waivers...

Hey.. just learned something new over the weekend regarding teh NHL rule book..

Did you know that during OT in a regular season game.. if you pull your goalie.. and get scored on .. that you LOSE the extra point from the tie during regulation?

Minnesota pulled their goalie in OT vs. Nashville this weekend.. they scored and won it.. they needed the pts for the wildcard.. but apparently if they had been scored on.. they'd have lost the single point and had zero.. all these years never new that rule existed!

Oilers were involved in a beautiful game where this happened to eliminate the Canucks (Canucks needed the extra points to make it, so loss of point if they lost didn't matter).

https://www.espn.com/nhl/2000/20000407/recap/edmvan.html

many salty tears were shed because it looked like the Oilers were clearly offside before the goal, but the Canucks put it back into their own zone for us.

crap, I'm old

The rule dates back to before shootouts. Back then a game would be tied after OT if no one scored, so if you absolutely needed the extra point you could try this.

I know it worked, but I don't know what Minnesota was thinking by pulling their goalie. They would still have had the shootout to gain the extra point if they didn't score, and were risking their guaranteed single point.

I want Vegas and LA to both crumble. Historical collapses would be lovely.
