Another loss. Early in the season, but it’s over. We aren’t sniffing playoffs till we get goaltending and a better defense or at least one or the other

This is not a look you want from your Captain and generational superstar.

Agreed it was a bad look. This entire season has a dark cloud over it and it’s past repairable

Rookie coach thrown into the fire and paul Coffey who said he doesn't even want to be an assistant coach, bringing his experience of coaching Junior B, are there to save the day and implement an NHL quality defensive structure that will get this team back on track.

Yup, what a bizarre hiring strategy when the team needed an experienced NHL coach/staff. Looks like keeping Woody and Manson and firing everyone else may have had a better chance of success. When Woody started here, the team threw out the old playbook and started winning big. They have since returned to that loser playbook and started failing big as expected. It feels to me like the calls and decisions come from the top and have no basis in reality - impulsive aimless drivel both on and off the ice.

Fool me once, shame on you, fool me 30 years in a row, shame on ... you.

Greatest player in the world, he’s looking mentally defeated.
Fans are giving him hell saying the org is hiring everyone he wants.
Teams needed defence since 2005 and a goalie for a while too.
Zero cap space…. This is a hard season to sit through.
How do you even negotiate Leon’s extension?

More importantly...our GM is done at the end of the season, and do you risk going into the season without an extension for Draisatl?

You do not. If he’s not extended in summer, you take the big first deal that plugs goal and defensive holes.

The goalie thing I saw a mile away. All summer “Cup favourites”… we were incredibly lucky with Skinner last year until Vegas. Luck isn’t something you bank on.

And Campbell was a mess all season, but management was gearing up to give him the chance to prove 5x5 wasn’t a HUGE mistake to try and save their image. Holland bet the house and we all lose what could have been something special.

If they listened to you though...do we get McDavid? We'd already drafted 1st overall three times by that point and Drai at #3. The year we got McDavid was similar to this year, we were hyped up and ready to win...tripped on the starting gate, and fell flat on our faces and into a generational talent (still so awesome).

After that happened we even tossed MacT from the GM role before he could even make the #1 pick, brought in a GM from a winning team, and a top coach too. I'd say we're cursed, but we've had more luck than any other franchise in the history of the league than maybe the Canadiens and Penguins.

I mean every other fanbase has us penciled in for the #1 overall this year if we miss the playoffs.

Agree...but why sign him long term...look at Chicago and Pittsburgh and what happened with their stars.

Go for broke in those last McDavid years. Then we tank again. We KNOW we have the right management team to do that at the moment.

Arguably we've already used up the best years of both.

Starting to second guess my score prediction strategy of picking the Oilers to win every game...

All I'm really interested now with this team is who else they will try to bring in the org now to try to convince McDavid and Drai to stay.

Also what mess Holland will make with his attempt to get a goalie that will likely barely move the needle at all for the team.

Is this zone defense?

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/F_lNivlWUAAN96O?format=jpg&name=small

The formation is very pretty, I have to admit. Cane in the middle is shooting in this picture, eventually scores on a rebound before any Oiler really gets on him.

What an epic fail this season is turning out to be. Just a complete and utter fail.

I'm tempted to just give away the rest of my tickets to some charity. Screw this organization; trade it all away and fire all of the idiots that run this ship into the sun.

Coffey sucks. His D have given up 17 goals in the last three games. He didn't even want this job. Send him on the colony mission to Mars. Please.

Get rid of all of the morons running this. It's embarrassing.

Same thing I have been seeing all season. They have zero idea how to defend. It’s mind boggling to me. The opponent is once again by himself inside the hash marks. The problem is defending. 67% of goals are scored inside the house at the NHL and pretty much all levels. If they are playing a zone defense, you have to actually pick up the man in front, not let them have free rein. It’s bizarre they can’t pick up the open man. It’s like a team mental block.

So this is what hope feels like?

This image shows exactly what the problem with the Oilers is.

They fired the coach and brought in a new one to get a spark. I don't think he has any power anymore but they can fire Holland, it's deserved but I don't know what good it will do. It's 100% ALL ON THE PLAYERS!!!

There is no system out there that tells the players to stand around, let an opposing player stand wide open in the slot and fire as many shots as you need until you score. How can 4 guys just stand there and not 1 thinks they should cover the guy. One dman has his freaking BACK to the play for f sake!

What bothers me the most is when they decide to turn it on in the 3rd when they are losing. Why can't you come out more inspired to start a game? I get the other team is maybe not pressing as hard but I don't think they just stop playing all together and it wasn't just last nights game, it happens pretty much every game against every team they play.
