That's a shame. Big kid, plays C. Could have used his dad's technique of making a 180 degree spin as the puck drops on a faceoff to just shove the other Center out of the dot with his arse. And I guess whatever magic aura his dad had for the refs to never care.

The narrative from the Oilers is that they can't fit this kid in, they would like to but Skyler also sees that it will be hard for him to make it to the big club. So I understand the feeling and his declining to sign here.
Good problem to have.
The very definition of insanity is doing the exact same thing expecting different results.
Generally Disappointed.

One other personnel note: #NYR let all 31 other teams know they likely won't be signing 2021 3rd rd pick Jayden Grubbe before June 1 deadline, making him available.
Grubbe had 67 pts in 64 games for WHL Red Deer. The Calgary kid is a 6-foot-3, right-shooting center.

I'd take a run at Grubbe. He's a a big, right shot center. I am sure he will need several years of development time but why not give him a shot. He's a free player who maybe if developed properly can become something. The Oilers signed Philip out of the U of A and he's turned in a pretty decent first pro year and looks like maybe down the road, he might be able to become something.
Brind'Amour has delusions he's making the NHL out of college so he didn't want to sign with the Oilers because he won't make the team. I would think Grubbe coming out of junior would know he's a few years away from even having a chance to make any team. So why not the Oilers who seem to have a pretty good development system.
