If not for the Makar bullcrap, I would agree with that call. He doesn't touch the puck again until half way in to the zone. But given that brutal call last year, it makes sense that we'd have the league go the opposite way now.

As per usual, the league's rules are clear as mud.
I remember Duchene getting a GWG against us years back when he was still in Colorado as well, and it was clear as day an offside, and the goal still counted. I'm so confused by what it means any more.

Unfortunately I think the logic is consistent for both calls.
With Makar, it was his teammate that had not cleared before the puck crossed the blueline (delayed offside), but they ruled Makar didn't take possession until he touched the puck. At the time of possession in the zone, his teammate cleared.
For this one, I think they are saying McDavid entered the zone before the puck did, but he did not have possession, so he was in a delayed offside position (like Makar's teammate). Once he touched the puck in the zone, he has possession but it was himself who was still offside.
But I don't agree that you need to have the puck right on your tape to have possession.

He and Louie have carried a lot of water this year for sure. They make me nervous talking about how the Oilers have fixed their season and turned it around. I'd like to at least be out of the wild card spots before I start celebrating "righting the ship".
