From cap friendly:

Quote:

Clubs whom have 1 or more arbitration filings may be permitted to perform a buyout outside of the regular window. This gives teams another opportunity to become cap compliant following an arbitration case.

Clubs are permitted to perform a buyout outside the regular period during the 48 hour period beginning on the third day after the final of [CBA 13(c)ii]:
Settlement of the Club's final arbitration case, or
Receipt of the Club's last arbitration award

Requirements:
A buyout can only be performed on a player who was on the clubs reserve list at 3:00pm on the most recent trade deadline
The player must have a cap hit of at least $4,000,000 for the 2022 offseason

Players who were on the roster at the deadline and have a cap hit of greater than 4 million dollars:

McDavid
Draisaitl
Hyman
RNH
Kane
Nurse
Barrie

Oh no.

Too late to buyout Keith?

You can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you just might find, you can get a lottery pick.

Sounds like Foegele is being shopped and everyone thinks his cap hit is too high, which it is. Still waiting for the "do not buy out Foegele" thread.

the number of times OEG has bought somebody out instead of trading them and retaining salary is amusingly high

This thread was going to be a don’t buy out Warren Foegle thread, but I checked the rules and realized he wasn’t eligible. Barrie though…

Foegele had some stretches where he looked pretty good. The first month or so of the season I seem to recall thinking he was doing well, and though he didn't really get on the scoresheet, I thought he looked pretty good a few games in the playoffs - but that is basically what our bottom 6 has been foreever: A group of guys who look ok but bring nothing, and the best you can hope for is that they break even. For a million, one guy like that might be acceptable. For almost $3M? Way too much.

EDIT: Just went to look at his stats - why in the hell did we give a 20 point guy a 3 year $8.25M contract?

To echo Pi: Don't buy out Foegele! But I would be ok for them to give someone a 4th or 5th to take him on.
