Stauffer saying we might see something after the draft has been completed. Ottawa wants to move Murray, Zaitsev and Brown, and “the Oilers would have a lot of interest in Brown”.

Trade prep? Has to be Puljujarvi going the other way.

Brown’s name was on the radar last week too. Personally I think this is a downgrade move, but it feels like the sights are set and the finger is already pulling the trigger.

I can't see that.. Zaitsev + Murray are almost $11M.. only value is Brown and he's only got a year left at $3.6M .. hope Stauffer's musings are false.

Puljujarvi for Brown would be a terrible trade. Puljujarvi is 24, has two more years before he's UFA eligible, and will likely come cheaper than Brown, who is 28, more expensive and UFA at the end of next year. Similar production last year, but Puljujarvi is the one more likely to improve on his numbers. Brown just hopefully stands level over the next couple years.

Lots of smoke on this one though.

I view this one more Barrie than Puljujarvi tbh.

But fwiw, Dylan Strome. Just going to say that.

If they trade Barrie, who replaces him?

My assumption is Broberg is on the team. I assume they will get Kulak done. If what Spec reported is his ask, I just can't see how that doesn't work for the Oilers. 2.5 mill for a 4/5 dman that skates really well, defends decently and wants to be an Oiler, seems like a no brainer to me. But then you need a replacement for Barrie if you trade him.

Definitely would be a good idea to get a vet RHD of a similar caliber to Kulak. Should be doable, and overall you should save ~2M.

PP is all Bouch then (Nurse as backup which has worked fine in the past), which I think most would be OK with. It's time. But we really should try to extend Bouch ASAP then.

If Nurse is PP2 why is he getting $9 million? Better churn out the 5 on 5 goals

You can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you just might find, you can get a lottery pick.

The bad part about giving the PP over to Bouchard that will shoot his points up big time which drives his price point up. Maybe trading Barrie isn't the best option yet? You put Bouchard full time on the Oilers PP, add 20+ pts to his 43. Big price difference paying a 43 pts dman compared to a 65 pt dman.

I think I would be more interested in Bouch developing ASAP than trying to keep Barrie to be a way to suppress Bouch's stats. Bouch continuing to gain confidence in his offensive game is going to be very important if we want to win a cup.

If we're that concerned about Bouch's contract then work on that extension and try to get it done in the season.

Exactly this. I’ll add that Bouch, as of now, is the only major cog to be resigned next summer when Lucic and Sekera are off the books. Won’t totally cover the Bouch raise, but will cover half of it (provided he isn’t as selfish as Doc or Yamo)

True points there.

The big thing is replacing him. Dumping Barrie's contract which given what he does and how he has played, isn't a bad contract, sounds great to get the cap space but they have to replace him. There are 31 other teams trying to improve their team, right shot dmen are harder to find. The crop of defense this year isn't that great and ideally you want to find guys who are good but don't overpay for them. So are 31 other teams. So they need to be careful.

In a perfect world, there is a trade out there where you are swapping a signed, offensive Barrie to a team looking for offense for a more defensive guy.

That would be a fair deal. Barrie for Brown.

I would really like to know what is wrong with Strome because I don't understand why they have been trying to trade him for so long. They were trying to trade him before this decided to blow the whole thing up.
