Oil kings advance to the Memorial Cup.. beat Seattle in 6 games to win the WHL title.
Great series, great competition, Seattle was a super tough team to beat.

Guhle won the MVP for the WHL playoffs.. man that kid is going to be amazing.. he has it all.. top 2 NHL D-man for years to come.. Montreal must be licking their chops.

Oil Kings meet Shawinigan Cataratcts (X. Bourgault) from the Q, and either Hamilton or Windsor from the OHL.

Hopefully Guenther is healed up by next Monday.. knee.

Note: One thing I noticed between the series winning games for Edmonton and Shawinigan.. I always feel bad for the losing team when it has to wait on the ice while the winning team finishes celebrating before they have the handshake line and then can finally get off the ice to the locker room.. but the worst is when the winning team all put on their "Our Team are the Champions" hats and then go through the handshake line.. its like forcing the losing team to rub in their faces one on one.. not class.

So I saw that happen with Shawinigan over PEI.. thought it was poor form..

I was wondering what would happen with the Oil Kings hoping they wouldn't put on the stupid hats..

They didn't.. after initial celebrations, realized was Seattle waiting.. stopped.. did the handshake.. no stupid hats.. class. 👍🏻

Saw all three TSN broadcast crews doing the 3 leagues.. all good.. refreshing.. the PxP guys all actually add some content while they do PxP .. and don't sound like a NAIT intern trying to keep up with the play.. much better than some Sportsnet NHL broadcasts.. and I'll take their panel crews any day over Hrudey, McLean, Bot, Friedman.. only reason you'd keep Friedman is for league insider info.. not in-game analysis.. he's weak at that.

Oh BTW.. from what I saw, I'd take WHL/CHL refs over NHL refs .. didn't see one "Ghost" call.. all calls made were legit.. and didn't miss one that I could see.. compared to an NHL game it was a stark contrast in competency.

Had the pleasure to watch Guhle in Prince Albert for a few years. Absolute stud d-man and it was obviously apparent as a 16 year old rookie. He never took a step backwards, which is not always the case.

I thought we had the next great WHL d-man when I saw Nolan Allan come up, but he is no where near as good as Guhle at the same age.

He's head and shoulders above the CHL level, great mobility, wicked shot, both slap and snap, has size.. great hockey IQ.. and brings a snarly mean streak.. top tier.

Hamilton loses to host Seadogs (QJMHL Host team)

Seadogs have been sitting around for 6 weeks ..while everyone else has been through a war surviving FOUR (4) rounds of CHL playoffs.. losing players.. injuries.. fatigue.. host team fresh as a daisy practicing for 6 weeks.

Not a fair format IMO.. I'd rather have the host city be the winner of one of the CHL leagues.. its CHL.. don't need a year to plan out hosting a Memorial Cup.. TSN crews are mobile.. treat it as any other hockey series.. just make sure the rink is available.. I think they used to do it.

The Mem Cup is a really weird capstone to the grind of junior playoffs. Imagine the Stanley cup champion flying to play the KHL and SEL champion in a short round robin tournament to determine world club champion. I’d watch, but it would be weird. The only solution I can see is creating a fourth league or inviting the junior A National champion.

Please do not feed the bears. Feeding the bears creates a dependent population unable to survive on their own. Bears.

Never liked the format.. each League champ all had to win a 7 game series, 4 times, to win their league.. and they have those same league champs play a 3 game round robin to decide who plays in a SINGLE game final.. just bizarre.. would be great to find a way to get it down to two teams for at least a best of 3.. the trouble is there's 3 leagues... maybe get rid of the host team.. then have the 3 league champs play each other 2 times (4 games each for each team) .. each round robin game goes to OT.. then the top two play a best of 3..

Need to play between a total of 6 to 7 games to be Memorial Cup Champ.. might wind up being the world's toughest team sport championship to win.. for the entire CHL playoffs you'd need to win between 19 to 20 games to win the Memorial Cup.🌺

I had a theory with Dubnyk when he came in that given his size, he was really tough for kids to beat coming up, and that in pro it was an adjustment because they didn't need the same room to find the twine. Not sure how accurate that is or not, but to me it makes some sense. It can be really easy to just rely on your size when you're a giant.

Hope its the OHL winning this today.. a legit CHL League Champion that has won, and survived their respective league war, rather than a host city freebee spot, that's been waiting at the practice rink for 6 weeks.
