I think there's options out there, Ken's gotta jump quick and get a guy in quarantine. Stalock I'm not too familiar with, I would love to see ken swing for the fences on a good goalie.

I’m doubting the goaltending can be fixed before the off season when there is cap room. I realize the time is now, but not crazy about mortgaging the future yet. Yet...

Here's my counter-argument:

Toronto 90 GF, 63 GA 18-6-2
Edmonton 86 GF, 82 GA 16-11-0
Carolina 85 GF, 64 GA 17-6-1
Tampa Bay 83GF, 48 GA 17-4-2

The Oilers are among the elite teams in the league at scoring goals this year, so even a marginal improvement in goal could make a pretty big difference. Looking at the records of those other teams, it makes a massive difference.

If you can beat Toronto, you can go to the Conference Finals this year, and there's no world beater in the Western Division (although now it occurs to me that I don't know how the Conference Finals are seeded...)

I think a goalie who can win you games puts this team in a position to make a serious run this year even with the roster's other flaws. If you can tweak a little at the deadline and convince the coach to take the occasional chance with a young guy like Bouchard, the world's your oyster here.

Great points, but a teams GA doesn’t fall entirely on the goaltender. Don’t mistake this statement as an endorsement for our goaltending tandem though. Like you say, a goalie can win you a game here and there. I just think if some of these comparisons were trying to get it done with the Oilers D corps, the differential would not be as glaring as you are illustrating. But yes, our tandem is the worst of those 3 clubs indeed.

Our D aren’t world beaters, but the only time they looked horrendous tonight was on a clumsy, but successful Koskinen save. I agree. A goalie makes us a contender. It NEEDS to be a priority.

I don't disagree there - our defence could be improved. But if you even say that defence is responsible for half that gap then you're probably looking at a big improvement in your record. I also think the defence would play more comfortable if they didn't see any shot against as a potential goal. The Oilers really badly outplayed Ottawa and still ended up in a close game (although in part because they have no ability to score on an empty net too). If you feel like your goalie can at least make the necessary saves from the outside, you're likely to be a little more aggressive.

I think I read that they will just order them 1-4 based on regular season pts% and then 1 plays 4; 2 plays 3.

Interesting to see how they will award the Campbell and Wales trophies this year.

Could finally be our chance to get our name on one of the few Trophies we've yet to capture!

I like goalies like Accord. Makes the easy saves, but covers the puck up lots against team that like to rush the puck. It slows down the game and allows the Sens to regroup and gain control.

Even if they aren’t strong enough to take the game back, Accord is giving them the opportunity.

It's pretty big for the Oilers if Turris lives up to the billing.

I don't think it makes sense at this point to really put much hope in that. Like Mike Smith, he's bound to have his occasional good stretches, but he is what he is now. He wasn't good in Nashville, and he's been generally bad for almost half the season now here.

I've wondered a couple of times tonight about what game Louie's watching. He was full of praise for Gudbranson when McDavid went wide on him and then hit Yamamoto with a pass in the middle. I didn't see much that Gudbranson did...didn't get the man or the puck. Only thing he did was not get completely turnstiled for McDavid to walk in himself...Had Yamamoto handled the pass better though, that's is a grade A chance, in part because Gudbranson got caught flat-footed.

Could we please see just a little more killer instinct on empty nets? We always look like we don't see those as real goals or something. Always looking to over-pass, and not exactly bearing down to make sure those shots go in. It makes the last minutes a little more interesting than they should be.

DOWN THE STRETCH!

Ottawa sucks. It’s like watching the Oilers if they’d didn’t have McDavid.

Yet they feed Calgary their lunch on the daily. Ottawa is bad, but if you don’t push the play then you’re losing.

Good on the Oil for taking 2.

1 Cup

Smith better be looking over his shoulder. Kosko showed a lot of battle after that first goal. He even left his net to play the puck in the last minute.

3 Cups

Pretty rough goal by Koskinen. I won't lie I was nervous he was going to have another one of those nights but I thought after that he was solid. I don't think Tippett has done him any favors with how he's handled the goaltending. Jack Michaels said it was his 3rd start in a month. He's clearly not overly confident and I don't blame him given how Tippett has different standards for his goalies. Pretty tough to build any confidence when you are looking at the bench after every goal to see if you get the yank and know if you don't put in a vesina effort, you probably won't get a start for weeks. Oilers need both guys going.

I really, really hope this having Leon and McD on the same line is short lived. Maybe he just wants to get them both going as they sagged a bit over the winning streak and definitely against the Leafs. They are a WAY better team when they are split up as Nuge can't play top 6 center.

I thought Nuge was lousy last night. He's been struggling 5 on 5 all year, he brings nothing 5 on 5 when he centers a line. I thought his line wasn't that great, JP being the best one and having to drive a line. Your going to be 28 yr old, over 630 games former #1 overall center should be driving the line, not a 22 yr old, basically rookie winger. Just about the entire team was even, Leon was +1, McD +2, Shore -1, Nuge -2. Nuge is not a good top 6 center. Please Tippett, make it stop soon.

JP was decent. I thought he drove the line and was the best one on that line by a lot. Lead the team in hits. I don't expect him to do that all the time but nice to see he's got that jam in his game. He's a big boy, I think he is realizing what he and that giant body can do out there. He's tough to deal with.

Best game as an Oilers for Turris. Got an assist on a nice feed to Leon. Should have had another when he fed it to Chiasson but the Sens goalie made an amazing save. It might be false hope but I hope this is a sign he's starting to figure it out. If he can do that more often, he's a useful player.

If I am the Sens, I would start Daccord again. He was fantastic. The Oilers should have had easily 2 or 3 more goals but he made some amazing stops.
