Trying to figure out what exactly the Leafs could want from the Pens for Kapenen? I have read that maybe Freddie Andersson might be on the outs in Toronto. I mean his 1.82 GA and his .9365 in their 5 game series was the reason that lost and had nothing do to with the team being butter soft with no defense. So maybe Matt Murray?

I'd be happy to take Andersson off the Leafs hands.

Dreger claiming pens are giving a 1st round pick and the leafs are not taking back much cap.

Hope it's actually for Jack Johnson :)

#15 OA seems expensive for Kapanen without evening up the cap hits. I'd call this the Pens doing the leafs a favour.

Well, they still owe them for the Kessel deal.

I'm not sold on Rutherford as a GM either. He's made a lot of blunders in Pittsburgh. Still a big Jack Johnson fan too...

Leafs must be making space for trading/signing for a RH Dman.

How about A. Johnsson & Hyman ($5.65 Million cap hit) for Larsson & Khaira ($5.32 Million cap hit) ????

I would do it, wonder if the Leafs would?

The Pens stars are:
Malkin - 34
Crosby - 33
Letang - 33
Hornqvist - 33 going to be 34.

All of them have several years left on their deals. They seem to be a team desperately trying to keep their window open for their aging stars when it keeps getting closed each season. At least Kapanen is only 24 but it seems like they paid a lot, I'd say absolute top, top dollar for Kapanen. Especially when the Leafs are in real trouble cap wise so in theory, they should be having a fire sale on guys like Kapanen.

If the Oilers had of made that trade giving up the #14 for Kapanen, I would have been livid. I thought a Larsson for Kapenen trade made sense. Cap hits are in the ball park. When healthy, Larsson can be a decent top 4, right shooting shut down guy so he has value. On the Leafs he would have brought a much needed level of defense and physical and nastiness the Leafs sorely need but his injury issues maybe drive his value down slightly.
