And to be totally transparent, there is no NHL release, just a leak to an insider at 7PM on a Friday before the long weekend the playoffs begin.

Just trying to bury it to get the minimal backlash from fans.

Not surprised. Legal/contract decision making baffles the mind everyday.

There’s the letter of the law and the spirit of the law.

By the letter, no question that the Flames shouldn’t get the pick. By the spirit, I can only see a few arguments for, obviously one of those won.

I imagine that the question was something like: was the 20 goal marker created because there is something special about the number 20, or because it’s a figure that represents a high level of performance for which a balancing of the trade was required?

If that was the parameter, I think we can all agree that, yes Neal was better than expected and a balancing asset is fair, as contemplated.

To be clear, I’m not surprised, but also thought this would go in favour of the Oilers. Don’t want to come off as a hind-site prophet.

2015/2016 - This Kool-Aid tastes like McDavid flavoured Drain-O.
2016/2017 - This Kool-Aid is starting to taste like juice.
2017/2018 - I'm drinking this Kool-Aid, in hopes that it's Drain-O.
2018/2019 - Another round of Drain-O, good sir!

Not surprised at all. It sucks, but on the whole, it was all worth it. Great trade.

Well, looks like 80% of us got that poll prediction wrong.
The NHL really does hate this franchise, who knew?

Couple the disdain for the Oilers franchise with the infatuation of the Flames organization. I mean, who else in the league could go undisciplined from a player not being responsible with their skate and a player cross checking an opponent away from the play resulting in injury? Let’s not forget Ferland is from the Flames family tree and he gets a small fine of $5000 (small to an NHL player) for literally using his stick as a weapon. Oh right, no intent on either ‘hockey player’, just as there was no intent on the hockey play that resulted in major injury to the games best player.

It’s a BS ruling. League making up for all the lottery luck to appease fans around league. Between this and the compensatory pics for chia and McClelland we are more than even.
