Sportsnet showing 2006 game 3 Vs Detroit. I'm yelling at my TV 15 years later. Somehow we got saddled with Mark Lee and John Garrett on the call. Refs just so infuriating at the hight of league tilting the ice towards Wings era.

Pronger = Great
Hemsky = Not so much

Hemsky not so much? I think Hemsky = great, but I'm just remembering this:

To be fair, it was Hemsky's first playoff experience since his rookie season, when he hadn't seen a tonne of ice.

As I recall, he broke out in Game 6, and then got better as the playoffs proceeded. MacTavish also scrambled all the lines in the playoffs - he'd played a lot of the year with Horcoff and Smyth, and then it was him, Stoll and Samsonov in the playoffs...so a bit of an adjustment.

Prongs was great. He was like a coach on the ice. I remember him standing with the puck behind the net pointing where his teammates needed to go.

Hemmer was the best offensive threat we had. I remember McTavish occasionally overloading Hemmer's side of the ice for rushes in home games because the Edmonton crowd was so loud that the opposition team defense couldn't yell out coverage warnings for the incoming offensive positional change-up.

The pandemic of not shooting in Edmonton, started with Hemsky. Of all the games I've watched, I've never seen any other teams not shoot as much as the Oilers.

I should have probably noted in my post that Hemsky scored 2 goals in that game, haha. One off his body and the legendary goal where you can see Manny Legace's soul leave his body. Poor guy, that ended up being the last NHL playoff game of his career.

Yeah but he was getting head hunted every shift, blown shoulders, he was a target, and he got no physical support for most of his career in Edmonton, the guy started to hear foot steps in his sleep, getting that puck off his stick as soon as he could. There were only a few short years when he had anyone that backed him up. In the end I heard from one of the Oiler Czech prospects interviewed he saw Hemsky in Czech and mentioned it was the concussions that eventually made him retire.

Game 3 2006 vs Sharks starts at noon. I think this is the game where Raffi went headhunting and Horc scored in OT.

Smyth and Horc were magic for 3 months in spring/summer 2006

I can't remember ever being so happy to see someones brains scrambled. That hit may have saved the season. Michalek was dominating in those first 2 games. Perhaps there was some lingering bad karma from it though that would come back to get us later... :(

That team was so good. They dominated possession and every line could score.

I wonder if they will have a guy at ice level during the broadcast between the benches like normal games? Normally Debrusk or whoever is standing right between the benches, no glass in front right in the action zone. If you want to keep the media separate from the players, I assume that won't happen.

Apparently Seattle releasing their team name tomorrow, heard they’re going with the Seattle Eskimos but no official word yet. Honestly out of the names I’ve heard haven’t seen a lot of good ones...too bad they couldn’t take their dub name cuz I actually like Thunderbirds. This made me wonder what constitutes intellectual property/rights to a name. Like for instance the WPG Jets has no problem rebranding as the Jets without any problem from the NY Jets but the VGK had to change the name they wanted because of the London Knights. So you can own “Knights” but not “Jets”? What if the Edmonton ESKIMOS want to rebrand to the Edmonton Eagles? Will Philly challenge that?

Thunderbirds is cool, but offensive AF. I hope they go with something exceptionally milquetoast like the Sounders or Rain or salmon.

So the NHL waited 4 months to address this? What happens if they just decided to shut down the 19-20 season all together and just start fresh from the 21 season. Would that carry over?

If the Flames playoff hopes rest on Lucic and his experience pulling them forward, I don't like their chances!!!

The stats definitely confirm that Looch was saving all his energy for playoffs. And now with the extra break, he's extra saved for playoffs.

13. Not-so-obvious situations to watch: Andreas Athanasiou, Edmonton. The Oilers forward is a restricted free agent, with arbitration rights. With fiscal responsibility rammed into the new CBA, this is the kind of situation where things could be tight for the team. Can the Oilers make his arb number work? Players decide. The way they play determines the choices you make.

Here's the comedy piece everyone needs to help you make it through COVID:

If the Flames playoff hopes rest on Lucic and his experience pulling them forward, I don't like their chances!!!

Whenever I bemoan Spector, I just think of Eric Francis.

Naturally, the first NHL game back is not on a Canadian channel. Great job NHL. Wanna watch the Pens-Flyers? Gotta have Centre ice, stream or live in the USA

Having read this, I checked on my TV in the Centre Ice channels - zero games scheduled there. That's pathetic. I considered that all games at this point would be national, but that is not the case.

It’s not even on Centre ice??? Lebrun had tweeted saying that’s where he had er. Wow. Epic fail NHL.

Edit/Update: apologies, GameCentre Live in Canada, not Centre Ice. Still. Fail NHL, though we do get a double header tonight. #LETSGOOILERS

Meh - it's just exhibition games.

Although Pittsburgh vs. Philadelphia is funny - it does seem like the NHL is going out of their way to set up arch-rival games for these scrub matches so they do care that they get some ratings on them...

Streaming the Pens/Flyers right now and gotta say for an exhibition game the pace is not "exhibition" at all...closer to playoff speed actually.

Also some really cool camera angles. Brian Dumolin blocks a shot on the PK, goes down in pain, limping noticeably afterwards

Any big hits?

I hope Tippett's telling people no shot blocking tonight too. Just what we need is someone breaking a bone blocking a meaningless shot in a meaningless game. That's what goalies are for.

It’s not just meaningless though, tonight’s game that is. It gives the group a chance to get the tempo up, the mind and legs back to game speed prior to Saturday when the real fun begins. You don’t want to be caught with your pants down Saturday. An early deficit in a 5 game series can be a tough Hill to climb. Sure, you don’t want put yourself in position to hurt yourself or your team but you also have to be engaged, get engaged and go into the series on a high.

I mean, heck we all know KRuss will be blocking at least 3 pucks tonight.

No major hits I noticed but had it on the background while I was doing stuff.

Bingo! It’s not about listening to “old hockey heads” talking about how important exhibition games are. This isn’t a typical exhibition game, it’s a game where you’re trying get up to playoff speed going into a best of 5

Yes, you want to skate hard, but that's it. You really don't need to get your nose dirty in a game like this. It's not going to be hard to manufacture emotion for the real game. This is really just another scrimmage at the end of the day. We could win or lose 10-0 and it won't make a lick of difference and it's foolish to approach it any other way because anything bad that happens DOES impact real important games.

Meh, I'd actually be totally fine with Kassian chasing Tkachuk around all night and jumping him again. I waited 4 months for some hockey again, I want gratification immediately! I want BLOOD!!!

Flames, well Tkachuk has said they aren’t taking this one lightly. He’s their jam and he’s the one saying they aren’t mailing this one in to ‘get their legs’. It goes beyond just getting your legs. Come out flat and you’re left scraping your jocks off the ice while the Flames gain momentum to take to their series. That said, I’m sure it’ll be a sloppy game and I’m not anticipating an all out brawl or even a single fight for that matter. But I am expecting compete. You can’t have 22 2019/20 Athanasiou’s out there tonight and expect to gain any momentum for the start of your 5 game series.

Also, can’t forget no fans in the building. No fan emotion to draw from. It may be harder for some of these boys to manufacture positive emotion to get up for it prior to the drop of the puck.
