We're definitely getting to the point where this team needs to start winning some games on a consistent basis. We're already 7 points back of a playoff spot, and more problematic is that there are five teams in between us and that last spot.
This upcoming four-game road trip is the start of a stretch that sees the team play 9 of the next 11 games on the road. Seven of the games are against Eastern conference teams - which in the past were the games the Oilers have won, but this year, they have 3 of a possible 16 points against the East so far.
So what's the benchmark here if the Oilers are going to make a season of this yet? What do they need to do in the next week versus the Islanders, Devils, Rangers and Capitals? I think they need 6 points if we're going to use this as a launch pad to respectability. Whether they can actually do that? I'm less sure on that.

Road trip should be good for the team. Get on the road, support each other, get away from the pressure at home. Focus on hockey, give 110%, play the right way.

This road trip is kind of a maker it or break it for the Oilers in my opinion. It isn't his fault but Talbot for whatever reason is not stopping a lot at home but is good on the road this year.

They played pretty well on the last road trip. 1-1-1 isn't awful. 5 goals against is great. 4 goals for is less than optimal.
The Oilers need points and a lot of 'em. 5 on the first road trip, 3 or 4 during the two games at home, and 4 on the second road trip would be just mediocre enough to keep the hope simmer. Anything less than 11 points in the next 11 games and, well, the road gets tougher and shorter.
The only reason for hope right now is they haven't lost a lot of points to the western and smythe Pacific teams they're competing against for playoff spots. If they can beat the truly awful western teams they should be fine.
East of the Rockies and west of the rest.

Need to play a full 60 minutes. Need to be ready from the first faceoff. Need to collectively come together as a team. Need to play for eachother. Need to support eachother around pucks. Need to be more responsible with the puck. Need to play with heavier sticks. Can't take anything for granted. Two points now count the same as 2 points in April. And most importantly, you need to play the RIGHT WAY!

At the very least they need 4 of 8 points. Something like 0-2 and I think that's almost it for the season. I know a lot of people like to say "it's still early" until April, but right now our odds are sitting at 6.7%. That can shoot up quickly with a nice little win streak, but lose 3 or 4 of these and all of a sudden we could be as much as 15 points from a playoff spot with almost a quarter of the season done.

I am hoping this road trip will be the tonic for the team to find their game. To a man, the team has struggled, especially at home. I don't have the exact stats in front of me but in listening to Gregor yesterday, even Talbot's numbers are drastically different at home than on the road. He's something like above .940 on the road and just below .900 at home. The team itself has played way better on the road. I don't know if the players are way looser at home than on the road or they bring their brains with them on the road and make better decisions but they need to figure it out. While not a perfect roster, there is more than enough talent to have a WAY better record than they have.

Need 3 out of 4 wins on this trip to start the turn around. Then play at least .600% hockey for the next month after that. That gets us a little bit over .500 hockey and back in the thick of it. If the rest of November is like October...stick a fork in us cuz we will be done!

It took 94 points to get in the playoffs last year. We have 9 points in 13 games, which means to get to last year's cut-off, we need 85 points in the remaining 69 games. By that math, the team needs to take 60-65% of the available points to make the playoffs.
It's certainly doable, especially if we win the bulk of our inter-division games, but it's not an easy road now, and there's clearly some aspects of the team's systems play that needs to be seriously cleaned up. You can't win that many games with a penalty kill that lets in a goal one in three attempts...especially if your powerplay is scoring at about 1 in 6.
And 13 games in, we still have only one goal for while the third or fourth line is on the ice, so no depth scoring could be considered a challenge as well...but maybe the team's just missed Brad Malone?

At least win 2 of 4. If I'm the coach I am playing tape of the San Jose series and parts of the Anaheim series to show how this team needs to play. Likely already happening? Anyway - not ready to stick a fork in them but the next 6 games will tell us a lot.
