Hell yeah! Another chance to win a hockey game! Why not the Oilers? It's not like there's something inherently wrong with the concept of the Oilers. Go us. Screw Dallas. Dallas still sucks and their hockey team is awful; unworthy of success.

Just heading out the door now to go up to Big D. Really hoping they pull this one out. I still hate Dallas.

My hatred for Dallas is long-standing!!
Remember those seasons in the late 90's-early 00's when we sucked but still managed to squeak into the playoffs & would face Dallas or Colorado 1st round!!
Weight, Guerin, Marchant, Arnott...little did we know that things would get WAAAAY worse!!
Say what you want - those teams accomplished little but worked their butts off!!
Imagine that work ethic in today's talent!! Dare to dream!! lol
Modano, Hatcher, Zubov, Lehtinen, Matvichuk, etc...yuck!

You know, I really think we undervalue just how good of a job Sather did building those teams. Look at the players you mentioned: Weight, Guerin, Marchant, Arnott. Those were good teams. A lot closer to success than we remember.

The comments about those teams not getting enough love at the Heritage Classic were bang on.

With the Oilers history in Dallas, a win would be an amazing way to not fall back to .500. And a loss would be a very typical and expected way to be .500 again.

I'm still looking forward to this team finding a forward who can get the puck to McDavid.
If there was a stat for "poor play decisions" the Oilers would lead the league.

Caggiula plays centre tonight; Hendricks and Russell back in as well. Pouliot will be scratched.

Lots of good news there.

A little surprised that Pitlick is sitting this one out, but Slepyshev was more noticeable last game so he gets the nod.

Interesting that Caggiula is in, thought he'd get conditioning time in the A before playing here.

All 3 all of a sudden are ready despite lots of quiteness on the injury news...this does kind of smell like rushing back from injury.

NHL clubs never really disclose this stuff. I think you are suffering more from our current losing streak and past history of losing, than actuality. Why give opposing teams a timetable for return dates?

Remember when Klefbom was going to be back in a few games last year? Or when Adam Deadmarsh was day to day with a head injury?

The same guys who have rushed multiple players back from injury over the years are still here.

It has happened before, we are coming on a 5 game losing streak and all of a sudden 3 guys are all ready to go at the same time? This is the Oilers, is my thinking THAT crazy? If the Oilers have shown anything over the years, it is that they should not get the benefit of doubt from us.

I suppose trust is earned. I'm going to give this management group the benefit of the doubt. As far as I can remember they don't have a history of rushing guys back too soon.

Recent history:
McDavid wasn't rushed.
Eberle wasn't rushed.
Klefbom wasn't rushed.

Mismanaging players was definitely a thing for the "old" group...Souray being rushed back and then completely mishandled from there, sucking the confidence out of Dubnyk, telling Whitney that he wouldn't play above the third pair...Draisaitl's meaningless 40 game rookie season. That is off the top of my head, I am sure we could think of more.

But I have yet to see anything that inspires confidence from the "new" group that they know how to manage their players. We still have an undeserving 18 year old rookie playing on the team, Caggiula does not even get a conditioning stint in the AHL, Nurse has played 13 career AHL games despite his NHL struggles. I am just not sure that any of this is what is best for the player, and therefore the team.

I could be wrong here, maybe it is just coincidence that all 3 guys happen to be ready, but I just don't give the Oilers the benefit of a doubt anymore.

Fair but none of those incidents you mentioned were injury related. You could argue Caggiula that is being rushed into a NHL lineup, but grasp at straws that he isn't physically ready to play would be complete conjecture.

It's not like there's a long history of the Oilers doing this...or like he's a rookie who's never played a pro game who's coming off a pretty serious injury and there's any other way to handle him than throwing him in to the NHL lineup immediately...

After just watching the last LA game on PVR, I now know what people were talking about with LA's hook, clutch, and tackle strategy vs. McDavid. Holy crap. The guy was literally tackled, right in front of a ref, and no call.

LA's strategy was clear, if 5 guys are slashing, hooking, clutching all at once on every shift, then it becomes the norm, and the refs just call the very worst of the worst that stand out from the rest.

McDavid last game was just manhandled.

Calgary raised a stink with Gudreau getting targeted and his hand broken from slashes, Oilers should be doing the same, at least let the NHL that you are aware whats going on and force them to acknowledge it, put the ball in their court.

McD could draw a penalty minimum 2 times a shift if the refs actaully calle dthe rule book.

My wish for tonight is that the NHL has had a word with the refs, but I doubt it, they are an arrogant bunch, and McD after all is playing with a franchise 622km from the USA border.
