I'm assuming that his last name is McDavid as well and maybe his birth year. Sucks that we will all force him to change his last name, since Connor is our saviour.

I was thinking the same thing a few minutes ago.

In other news he picked up 1G, 3A tonight, but they lost in OT. Down 3-1 now.

I've been thinking that a new jersey (with the new OEG logo) may be in the works for the arena opening. We'll start hearing rumours around January/February 2016 and probably an unveiling at the 2016 draft.... where the Oilers will win the lottery again, cause Oilers.

Trouble is the OEG logo has a blue ring, orange oil drop, which looks good on its own with no background, it'll work on a white jersey, but you need a logo that will look good and standout on a blue background as well, might have to modify that logo a bit to suit putting on a jersey.

Throw it on a white background circle like the current logo.

I was going to say that it kind of looks like a bulls-eye target, which also might be appropriate given how badly the Oilers get manhandled on the ice a lot of nights.

They should just use the logo that is in my avatar for crying out loud, as it just looks more classy.

I want the new design NOW and not next year! mischief

I can't see it coming out a year before the new arena. You'd have to think they would get more sales out of it at that time. Yet, it wouldn't surprise me if it did come out at the draft this year.

Why not sell a bunch of current McDavid jersey AND "new" McDavid jerseys in 2017? There is no reason for a new jersey for two years.

It would be a shock as nothing has been suggested by Reebok in the catalogues so far about any Oiler changes this year. This place is normally up to date with regards changes to shirts well in advance.

http://www.icethetics.co/blog/2015/3/11/nhl-jerseywatch-2015

I can't see too much change even going into the new arena, perhaps a reinvention of the copper outfits, but I don't know. I did hear that Reebok were sort of going to pull out of hockey, and reintroduce the CMM as the hockey brand, which might bring back more traditional styling. who knows??

Is Tim Murray the worst G.M. since Craig MacTavish?

Here he tells a radio station that Eichel told him in the interview he will be better than McDavid, putting alot of pressure on Jack :

http://www.cbssports.com/nhl/eye-on-hockey/25206241/sabres-g m-jack-eichel-told-team-hell-be-better-than-connor-mcdavid

Jack Eichel responds by saying he thinks stuff being said behind closed doors should be confidential (which it should) :

http://video.oilers.nhl.com/videocenter/console?catid=4& id=827896

I almost feel bad for Eichel now, I have no problems foir him saying that but now it's in the open I think he might not ever live it down.

This is strange seeing other teams acting like the idiot for a change. I'm not sure how to handle this lack of embarrassment.

Totally agree. Eichel can say that behind closed doors, good for him to want to be better. But Murray hasn't even drafted the kid yet and he's already making things awkward.

What a summer for Murray:

1) Complains bitterly about the draft lottery, making it sound like they're getting nothing - to the point where he needed to come out later that week and say specifically that they are thrilled to get Eichel.

2) Whines about losing out on Babcock, who really was a free agent who could choose whichever job he wanted.

3) Outs Eichel for saying that he'll be better than McDavid, putting ridiculous pressure on the kid, which results in the 18-year old having to chastise him gently regarding confidentiality.

He's looking like a complete clown on a MacTavish-like level. I wonder if he survives very long in Buffalo or if this isn't maybe his last year there...

lol, how hard is it to say "what is said between us and players in these interviews stays between us and the players"? Gotta talk the guy up for no reason aside from maybe making yourself feel better about picking #2. Definitely MacT-like.

Eichel killing it at the combine sounds like.

Buffalo Sabres @BuffaloSabres
As of now, Eichel #1 in these tests at #NHLCombine: long jump, vert. jump, aerobic duration, agility R, R-hand grip.

Edmonton Oilers @EdmontonOilers
Now THAT is a scrum. #NHLCombine

McDavid was able to do pullups :)

Joanne Ireland @jirelandEJ
So how did McDavid measure up? 97.3 in standing long jump; 19.488 in vertical jump; 6 pull-ups; 9 reps bench press.

Gretzky was always the worst conditioned at training camp......but was for some reason was where the puck was going to be. Conditioning doesn't test for hockey intelligence but it certainly doesn't hurt.

So this is what hope feels like?

Seems McDavid did fine in his tests. No red flags to speak of. That's all you really have to worry about with these tests.

Not really that shocking. NCAA players play fewer games and their season ended earlier so Eichel would have had much more time to train.

Not to mention the fact that the conditioning programs at most big NCAA schools are miles ahead of what major junior teams are doing. I've never understood why junior teams don't invest more in strength and conditioning.

Oilers Goal Differential
17/18: 234 GF / 263 GA (-29)
18/19: 232 GF / 274 GA (-42)
19/20 (82 game pace): 257 GF / 254 GA (+3) in 64 games
2021 (82 game pace):269 GF / 235 GA (+34) after 38 games

Yup, for sure, it's a very different circumstance for the 2 players. A lot of the time juniors that missed playoffs or out in the 1st round end up performing best. Top prospects that went far or even to the memorial cup are all way below usual weight and do so-so on the tests. Scouts must keep all of that into account, and really I think all they care about is seeing if guys have major issues. They probably care more about the medical tests and interviews than these test results, unless someone does horribly on one or more of them of course.

Still, Eichel's performance was really good for his age and he did play into May at the WHC. He's done a good job getting as close to McDavid as he can.

NCAA facilities will always be better given they can use resources at the university/college. Jr team has what 100 players/staff? BU has approx 75,000 students/staff. Bigger organizations have more to pull from.
