I do like that the quality of anthem singers has continued to be fairly good after that disastrous first night of the previous season.

Well, it certainly didn't take long for that small Bachmann bubble to burst, did it? I think I'm going to need to start drinking gin directly from the bottle. icon_dead

Settle down -- don't think anyone expects him to get a shut out every game. He recovered nicely afterwards so good to see.

Both Belov and whichever Schultz was on the ice were caught up ice.

It would be nice if somebody played defense.

As usual, it seems like most of the fans at Rexall are Laffs backers. How they've remained so popular outside of Toronto despite not having won a Cup in over 45 years is beyond me.

You would have to be 55 to remember them every being good....I certainly can never remember them being good. Of course in a 6 team league how tough is it to win a cup compared to 30 teams? Canada's version of the Chicago Cubs but everyone loves the Cubs vs the Leafs....

So this is what hope feels like?

It occurs to me that this particular grouping of hockey individuals despite the particular skills they might posses, as a troop are not notedly effective in comparison to similar groupings against which they regularly attempt to compete. Perhaps another type of activity, or at least a less competitive circuit is in order.

What are your suggestions on other activities, out of curiosity?

I'm not aware of the terminology employed by Canadians, but the activity exemplified by these outfits seems a good start.

So, it is just my Centre Ice that doesn't have this game on? Or is it hiding from me?

Check the regular Sportsnet feeds. I've got it on Sportsnet Ontario, don't have the option of watching the West feed.

Then I'll just regress, because I feel I've made myself perfectly redundant.

I don't get SN-Ontario. And if I did, it would be blacked out like the SN-West feed is.

Just thought it might be on your regular Sportsnet, since it's not on my CI either. Obviously that's because I'm in Ontario, but thought I'd try and help.

We get SN-East out here, so, lots of Sens games.

I know CI doesn't show every game, but to not put the Leafs-Oilers on is a bloody travesty.

On second thought, perhaps I'm the lucky one.

Despite the start, and Kessel's pretty good, but not TOO much to complain about so far. Wish they could get more shots through though.

Our forwards sorely need to learn to shoot the puck and look for the rebound when they have the opportunity and not go for the one extra move/pass that puts them at a worse angle to score.

I missed the first two minutes (and goal). But I have been pleased with their play thus far! Need more shots on net but controlling the play for the most part.

Belov with a beauty hit!

This 4 on 4 is pure chaos. Oilers and leafs really should play more often. Compliment each other nicely for just entertainment factor.

Nice penalty kill by Bach!

Also who is this new defenseman "Nick Schultz" we have in the lineup lately. I like his game!

Maybe Nick's nuts finally dropped last week? Something seems to have changed recently. Maybe he feels like he's on the edge of losing his place on the team...which he certainly was and is if he doesn't keep it up.

Can we transfer Bachman's reflexes and battle into Dubnyk? Or would it be easier to transplant Dubnyk's long legs and arms onto Bachman?

Ah crap, 2-0, both on odd man rushes due to defensive breakdowns.

woah...what a save by Bachman on Raymond...

Unfortunately our addiction of allowing golden scoring opportunities continues and JVR puts one in with Bachman having no chance. The epic battle of Bachman vs the rest of the Oilers continues.

Bachman getting a blocker on that even tho it was a goal shows he's a better goalie than Dubs.

Gagner looked pretty weak on that play. Just coasting. He could have tied up JVR with an extra stride.

Gags was never really known for his defensive play, and he's getting back into game shape after missing a month to boot. Just more of a team breakdown like on the first goal. Sigh. icon_dead

No. He just stopped. I'm a Gagner fan and think his deficiencies on d are greatly exaggerated, but he was brutal on that goal.

Gagner could still skate. He didn't break his freaken leg. But it wouldn't have matter. The game winning goal was scored in the first minute.

I want to move him of all our young talent. Mostly because I feel we can get a lot for him and others being younger still have more upside. A second Perron or a big bad D man.

So this is what hope feels like?

Good hockey player, shame he has less charisma than the black mold that grows on wet drywall. Guess that is considered part of the 'intangibles' that gets a player acknowledged as a star beyond their local press.

Wasn't crazy about Bachmans lateral movement/anticipation on that Kessel goal.

Fantastic shot, but it almost looked like an AHL goalie learning the speed of the NHL the hard way.

I still have not minded his game tonight. He's been in some tough situations.
