A team rebuilt vs. a team that wants to.

It's pretty easy to see with the D corps we're dressing tonight that the guys upstairs know they can count on the fowards to drop the ball... so they make sure there's a silly mess of young D men and keep reading Taylor Hall's wikipedia page.

Game on!

According to the Oilers twitter, Moreau is a scratch.

What are waiver rules after the trade deadline? Could this into a baseball-type mess or are there rules in place?

Threw a tantrum because he wasn't traded? Can't blame him, he played 1 good game in a row, it should have been easy for Tambo to find a taker.

Seriously???

Arsene is in the lineup but not in the building yet?

Is he going to dress in the cab on the way over?

...Oilers a player short right now because Arsene still hasn't made his way to the arena yet.

And the embarrassing season gets a little more so.

BTW, Motin's wearing #58. First time an Oiler has worn that.

Jones is donning #28. First time a former Predator who got plucked from the waiver wire has worn that.

So to sum up the last couple of days:

Out:
Lubo, Grebs, Staios

In:
Whitney, Johnson, Jones, 2nd, 3rd, 6th, ~ 10 Million.

I gotta say, that doesn't look that bad. There's a lot of threads of people throwing Tambo under the bus, but I don't know if it's really warranted.

Thoughts? Am I missing anything?

I think he did a very good job. I also think that it would basically be impossible for him to satisfy some fans at this point. We had to dump some players people like (Grebs and Lubo), but he did what needed to be done. And if as a fan you expected us to get better today, then you have not been paying attention.

Positives: 1) he dumped salary, 2) we got younger, 3) we got some picks, and 4) we got a bit bigger/tougher. There is also still the summer, so this is just the beginning (hopefully).

I have come to the conclussion that I like Dubnyk better than JDD overall. EVen though he let in the obligatory weak one he has looked like a more polished tender to me overall than JDD in his games. Better positioning.

Dreger said that the Oilers could have 10 picks in the 2010 draft. That can't hurt a team "on the rebuild".

I want to see what Whitney can do for us before I completely disagree with that.

What was brutal IMO was the original trade that brought Visnovsky here. That trade made us all around worse as a hockey team.

Agreed about that except that it is almost a universal concensus on the hf boards and by alot of Anaheim fans that they killed the oilers in the trade. My bigget beef is that we only saved 1.6 mill in cap savings, and Whitney is 27, no spring chicken.

The opinion on the HF boards does not really mean much to me. I think most people were happy to get him for Stoll and Greene as well. That trade really made us terrible.

Isn't 29 considered to be the prime age for an NHL D-man?

You may end up being right BR. I agree it would have been nicer to have gotten rid of more than $1.6 million.

More than anything I just hope he is good in our end.

What you have to remember too, is that Whitney never lived up to the expectation in Anaheim for some reason. When Pittsburgh traded him, I remember thinking wtf is Pittsburgh doing? He was a forcr for a while there and there is reason to believe he will get back to that. He was quoted saying he wants to come here and be a leader. Maybe playing behind Neidermayer and Pronger will stunt a D's potential.

"I'm looking forward to helping that team and being a leader [in Edmonton]," said Whitney, who will make an average of $4 million US a season through the 2012-13 campaign.

He could still be a bust, but I am willing to give him a chance because we are in rebuild mode so the time is perfect for projects.

I second that. I would welcome both Green and Stoll back in a heart beat. KLowe had a man crush on Visnovsky for years and he seized the opportunity to get him. If anyone still thinks that Lowe is still running the show with Tambo as his puppet...your wrong. KLowe would never have traded Visnovsky.

Hossa takes a Bolland drop pass high in the left circle and snaps a high shot over Dubnyk. Not good times.

At least Arsene's playing now...

Bolland, now there is guy I want on the Oilers. Heart and soul guy. I want the Hawks to win the cup (since Edmonton is no where near the playoffs). So this game I am not cheering just absorbing.

1 Cup

Gagner drives around Seabrook and puts the puck on net, eventually poked thru Huet's 5-hole by Nilsson. Penner with the other helper. After review, good times are had.

After Hjalmarsson's sticks breaks, Brule gets the puck and feeds Horcoff, who then snipes one past Huet. Awesome times?
