Hmmmm... watching the post-game comments with O'Sully and Cogliano, it was pretty obvious where the blame was being placed.

Pisani and Moreau took some CLUTCH penalties in the third to really seal the deal for the Blueshirts.

It's interesting that the players are clearly identifying where the deficiencies lie, subtly indicating the weak links involved.

I wonder if another rift is developing. The old boys (who obviously are on the decline) versus some of the guys in the locker room who are looking for change...

It sure didn't make me angry!!! The dive for 5 starts now!!!!

I'm already picturing Taylor Hall in an Oilers jersey... and I'm also dreaming about many of our current players wearing other jerseys in the near future.

Perhaps we could load up on 5th round draft picks for this years crop! One can only dream.

#18 isn't the reason the Oilers lost but I would staple Moreau's ass to the bench for the 3rd period of the next 8 games. Maybe then he would figure it out.

Thanks to Don Taylor and 3 am highlights after closing the bar, I have found the silver lining: That was the Rangers first win in Edmonton since 99's last game.

Remember how great it was having Gretzky? Ahhhhhhh.

Oh wait, living in the 80's.

PICK IT UP BOYS. GO OILERS!

Edit: And just to add... now that I've seen the Oilers' site review vid, how sweet is it that POS has a mustache for MOVEMBER?? Hells ya!

Speaking of the 80's the music at the Rex was terrible! 80's tunes the whole time, no wonder some fans and even management can't turn the page from the glory days. They all have the 80's mentality.

I get it, the oilers were great, next.

That was a frustrating game to watch last night. It's not just that the intensity level has been low the last couple of games, or that the team isn't hitting and is still sitting on ONE game all year where they've out-shot the opposition - they can't string together any decent passes. It's brutal to watch, and frankly inexcusable at the NHL level. They were flat out missing on ten foot passes last night and blowing rush after rush because of it.

The frustrating thing about the shooting part of the game is that it was apparent early on that Valiquette was fighting the puck. He let out a couple of really sloppy, ugly rebounds that unfortunately no Oilers were close to. When you see that happening, you've got to be thinking shoot all night long, and the only time the Oilers seemed to want to shoot was either when there was someone two feet in front of them so they could hammer it off his shinpads, or if they were three feet from the net.

I also hate seeing players on the rush circling beneath the goal line before attempting a pass. By the time you get that low, the goalie and the defencemen know that passing is your only play and it gets harder to complete that pass and even if you do, the goalie will have read the play pretty easily. Why they don't shoot on the rush and go for the rebounds, I just don't know.

Piss poor result. Again.

This team is very similar to last season's in that, when they look bad, they look ECHL bad. And for longer stretches than most NHL teams would struggle for.

Our biggest rivals are flying well clear of us in the standings already, and since we are terrible head-to-head with them, good luck ever catching them. I don't think CGY or VAN even consider us their rivals anymore. We're just not a threat.

With the way Cogliano is being used, there's no hope of him being an impact player anyway. He needs to be part of an attractive offer to acquire two large players (one fwd, one d-man) with NHL skating ability and hockey sense.

We should bring someone up from the WHL.. Or just replace the whole roster?

Who is Charles Linglet? Do we have rights to him? He leads SPG in scoring, is a big body, and was a big scorer in junior.

I think if we hadn't had the start we had, people wouldn't be griping as much. I'm willing to give a whole new coaching staff more than a quarter of the season before I say something is up. My expectations for the team coming into the season was about where we are out now, problem is I have seen that scoring to start the season so it makes me wonder where it went

That being said I am not gonna be too happy with 4 years out of playoffs if and when it comes to that, with a team who's payroll is at the cap. The problem with this team is they are the Patrick Swayze's of the league in the case that we are stuck in limbo before going to heaven (the cup) or hell (top 5 draft pick). This organization needs to either clean house or stock up (granted we cant stock up with full cap) but if we have an owner who wants to win and is willing to spend then send some of these monster contracts to the AHL and pay them out of your own pocket.

We are educated hockey fans in Edmonton, just tell us what you are doing, if you ship everyone over 27 and say we plan on being a cup contender in 3-4 years then we would be ok with that. If you say we plan on winning, then win something other than 89 pts worth on the year, every year for the last 10 years. Just stop leaving us in this mediocre state where we see our drafted prospects continually turning into 3rd line players because of where we draft them or not being able to be continually competitive for the cup for 3-4 seasons.

If this team keeps playing like it is they will be out of the mediocre state that they have been in for years, in a hurry.

We're looking at a new low if things don't change when they get healthy.

Another thing, other teams have injured and sick players and they are still winning.

We gotta whole lot of non nhl depth.

...the worst collection of veterans in pro hockey.

Horcoff
Moreau
Staios
Pisani

That is a sorry, unproductive bunch. 12.5 million bucks worth of pure suck. Think about what 12.5 million could do to help this club!

Then, absolute non-factors on a nightly basis:

Nilsson
Cogliano

Mix in some young, underperforming talent:

Gagner
O'Sullivan
Grebeshkov
Gilbert

And you've got a non-playoff roster.

They're not close. The core needs to be changed. Unfortunately, much of the core can't be moved due to the exorbitant payouts they're due in coming years.

Gagner was terrible tonight.

Lubo, Hemsky, flu-ridden Comrie, Sully and Lubo were the only guys going tonight. Can't win games with 5 players performing.

The reality is that change, improvement probably isn't possible until the contracts of those veterans expire.

Have to agree with you on this one. Watching Horcoff, Moreau, Staios and Pisani this year (and last) makes me want to find the nearest wall, and smash my head into it a few times. Again tonight Pisani, and Moreau take stupid/lazy penalties. Just talking about penalties makes me wish Souray was still in the lineup....he sure is missed!!!

Nicely said.. I am in total agreement.. Looking at the statistics from 05/06 season, (ast season we made playoffs), we were in the same position as we are in now.. just under 500... Anyone who is complaining about missing the playoffs, or about Quinn needs quiet down for another 3 months or so. ;)

Brilliant pic Shooter.

Ok, we're bad. We have zero depth, we have nothing really good going on at all. In the first 7 games we hit, we were high energy, we saw our oilers that Pat promised us. Then Sheldon kisses the boards and Stone get hurt and we've turned into the pansies of the league. What the...

Ok, I love MacIntyre. He's a story that a fan can follow, and he has this gold ring and he floats by it! No wonder he gets 40 seconds a night! He thinks he has to fight. Dude, you don't have to fight all the time.. so the best thing he could do is hit..smash, bang, be the intimidator that teams will be saying, "hey watch for 33". Does he do that? No, he goes way out of position to make a half hearted check and then spends life in the upper defensive zone with his head just on a frickin pivot, not moving, not pinching in on the play, just nothing. So 33, you are gone from this team because you are losing your focus. You refuse to hit anyone!! I'm 6' and I'm sure I can rock you into the boards, you SOFTY!! Pathetic waste of time cheering for the guy who doesn't know a good opportunity from a Flames jersey. Stupid player, like Moreau stupid..

Moreau, you idiot. 'nuff said. Do more pictures in sports mags, the ladies might have a use for you there.

Nilsson, go back to hockey school and learn to make a decent pass ON A TEAMMATES STICK!! Learn how to shoot and dude quit counting your measily 2 an 2.5 million dollars and play some hockey. You are a wasted contracted. Turff this guy for a bag of magic beans.

Chorney, back to the end of the line you ain't ready. Yes, you are a call up, but I think the oil are better off not having you occupy space up here

O'Sullivan, what is with you dude? You are heck of a lot better player than you are showing. What are you scared that Quinn will smack you over the head with a stick? It was just a figure of speech.. He won't - just play your style.

Pisani, April can't come soon enough to see you leave.

Stortini, I think your head has swelled too much from the powerplay time you've been getting. You are better playing the Tikkanen role, you are not the next coming of Jari Kurri. Move along from it and hit someone, anyone, fist, check, whatever, just hit.

Brule, BRUTAL! You are a non factor since your shock of entering the oilers roster. You can be great but even you stopped checking.

Gagner, too soon to be a player here. You should have gone back to junior, just think how much better you'd be. You're okay now, but you could have been great this year. Just pass better and get in on the play more.

Cogliano, you are struggling. Like real bad. You're a non factor on every play, you can't pass, you barely shoot. Why do you have shifts on the ice again.

Comrie, glad you're here. You bring a game that the oilers used to have, grit. You were sick and you still made charges.

Visnovsky, I wish I had 4 of but not at the same salary. Consistent player, just reliable all the way and just what we need from an offensive defensive. I will vote for him all the time, every time.

Gilbert, leave via trade. End of story.

Grebeshkov, you signed for one more year with the oil hey? Do you, like, want to stay with us? You're not playing like you do.

Hemsky, you need a team to support your "different level" of thinking. Clear that's no one on our team.

Khabibulin, I salute you. I had my doubts but I salute you. You don't throw your stick or go down like you're shot when a player brushes you, or pretend you're a baseball player in a hockey game. I'd be entertained by that on the island.

Quinn and Company - I'm sorry. The team is really as bad as the rumours said it was.

Penner, you surprised me this year. I think you surprised yourself on your stick handling and lost the handle. You are like the 4th bright light on the string of dim bulbs called the oilers

Staios, well I can't say much for you right now.

Can we still fire KLowe? We're screwed for many years boys. We're going to be the Islanders of the future. Our future is bad, a cap maxed team and we have that on the ice. Wow.

Have I missed anyone?

/rant

Team, maybe a math equation might help you..

GOOD(PASS) + (HITTING)+ GOOD(SHOOTING) = WIN

Heck you divide good from it all and they still get an ugly win.

We stink. I'm on the bandwagon and still there to cheer us on because I don't know any better. Yes its early but this team is getting from bad to worse quickly.

The very definition of insanity is doing the exact same thing expecting different results.

Generally Disappointed.

Y'know?

It's kinda tiresome coverin' the same ground game after game. Like I said last night... collective team lack of effort and execution. Pretty much all phases of the game, eh?

As I've used the HO's as an example earlier this week, Staples' blog at the Journal site continues with the theme of unhealthy 'obsessions'. An' it's pitfalls. After awhile boys, the book on a player is the book.

He needs to be part of an attractive offer to acquire two large players (one fwd, one d-man) with NHL skating ability and hockey sense.

nice to see you've seen the light :)

no matter who's behind the bench, these sad-sack player just aren't real NHLers...our captain is embarrassing out there...Gilbert/Grebs don't deserve the minutes they're getting and Cogs looks like he hit a wall

Dammit, I picked the score and am (somewhat) excited to see my name in lights on the thread and the bot decides to go to the crapper. I was looking for the silver lining here.

Chorney better not go anywhere near an Edmonton school during Movember. Cops will book him on suspicion.

Moreau with the dumbest penalty I've seen in a long time. Like wow.

I'm in the same boat as you Nullterm, I was thinking of cropping it out on to paint, printing it, and the framing it.

...can't sugarcoat that.

He's sub-NHL. He'd struggle in the A.

When it goes, it goes in a hurry.

Tambellini has much work to be done. I hope there is some urgency in that office.

The Vancouver Canucks keep winning despite losing their 1RW and 1G, still.

Maddening.

Sad to think that I haven't seen any of the past 3 games. That's a first.

Sounds like I haven't missed much...

You haven't.

Hell I've watch the last three games and all the Oiler's provided me with were 3 good snoozes on my couch. Normally I'd chalk this up to getting older but, in this case, its because I've seen the same thing from the Oilers the last three years....

Go Oilers!!!

agree 100%....Moreau has become a journeyman 4th liner now....the only thing he leads in is lazy/stupid penalties....who's gonna follow him if he's being the dumbest guy on the ice??

I think it's time we've moved on with this guy

2 Cups

Thanks for starting the two threads. I re-added the headers and such that OilFans should add. Seems my machine at home rebooted so the robot was on vacation last night.

And wouldn't you know it? I intended to call 4-2 Rangers. What do I see this morning? 4-2 Oilers as my entry. When I posted in the pregame that I hoped I was wrong about the prediction, I definitely did not intend to be wrong about an Oilers win!!! doh

Thank be to Shaw Direct, my wife and I had planned to buy the PPV last night and watch the game, but for some miraculous reason my dish crapped out yesterday and saved me money.....phew.

The team is a disaster right now, to be sure.

I think we can all agree that the best part of last night's game was seein' Slats with that cigar hanging out of his mouth in the third period. Vintage Slats.
