MacT was merely refering to the newcomers gettin' properly acclimatized to the organization.
No different than if they were ATL or DAL or MTL commodities.
Fairly innocuous statement when taken in the correct context.

Sportsnet has it like this
Oilers- O'Sullivan, Kotalik
Sabres- 2nd Round Pick
Kings- Williams
Hurricanes- Cole
In fairness to Hall, I've wanted to throw a waterbottle at Eakins all season.

I heard it was O'Sullivan plus picks for Cole. I like this trade even without the picks
I like it even better with Kotalik.
Kotalik-Horcoff-Hemsky
Penner-O'Sullivan-Gagner
Reddox-Cogliano-Pisani
JFJ-Brodziak-Stortini
Maybe even more trades to come

You think? I don't know. It doesn't seem that bad to me. Cole is a FA and O'Sullivan is signed until 2011 (Then a RFA). Cap hit of $2.9.

Kotalik is a right winger, O'Sullivan's a left winger. I'd venture a guess that you'll see O'Sullivan get the first trip around the ice with Hemsky & Horcoff, with Kotalik sitting in Cole's place on the second line.

We give up a guy with 27 points on the season who's UFA at season's end for a guy with 32 points and another guy with 37 points. That's pretty decent.
Only concern for me? Cole was our top hitter on the season. He leaves and we get 5'11 O'Sullivan and 6'1 Kotalik. Anyone know if either of these guys add much for sandpaper?

Yeah, Cole may lead in hits "technically" but his hitting isn't as effective in the western conference. Homeboy had a much easier time finishing his checks in the pansy SE division.
Love the guy to death as he bought my friends & me beer in Dallas some months ago, but it wasn't a good fit on the ice. Plus I got tired of him building speed at the wrong times & just falling all over the place.

According to NHLPA he has 200 shots so far this year. Far more than anyone else on the team except for Souray. Rob Daum on 1260 who coached him in the AHL says he is great on the powerplay. The NHLPA indicates he is a left wing as well.

Well, we should give credit where credit is due.
We didn't get a "high impact player" and we didn't get a shutdown/face-off specialist who can kill penalties.
Lowe did improve the club though, both short and long term. O'Sullivan pretty much brings to the table what Cole did, at a lower cost. He's younger and not a free agent, and should fit nicely on that LW.
Kotalik is also a nice player. He's a rental, and probably will be gone at the end of the year, but for a 2nd Round pick, I think Lowe did okay.

With Nilsson already with that #, wonder what O'Sully and Kotalik get...

Well done, Tambelinni, well done. Somewhere the RCMP is about to issue a warrant for his arrest.
Wish Cole had worked out better, but I think we just got a good/great upgrade to the roster.
Cole is going back home to Raleigh. Everyone should be happy at the end of the day.

I'm glad they didn't get someone that is a year from UFA status or something like that. O'sullivan is good till 10/11 I believe and then is only a RFA at that point.

Absolutely fantastic job by Lowbellini
We don't lose Cole for nothing, and we pick up an exciting offensive prospect, signed for the next 2 years, and another goalscorer who will be a massive help on the PP.
My lines:
O'Sullivan - Horcoff - Hemsky
Penner - Gagner - Kotalik
Nilsson - Cogliano - Pisani
Reddox - Brodziak - Stortini
This team looks so much better. Did we add a stud? No, but we have upgraded our forward two lines immensely.

BUF said they wouldn't trade with Lowe. If BUF trades with us it should be safe to say that Lowe ISN'T the GM.
And with the 1st pick overall the Edmonton Oilers are proud to select from the Swedish highschool league: Lars Svendsson.

I'm okay with todays events.
Cole is gone for O'Sullivan and a second rounder.
Oilers lose a second rounder to get Kotalik.
Draft pecking order aside the Oilers get Kotalik and O'sullivan for Cole. I realise the 2nd rounders won't exactly equally cancel each other out...but this is pretty good.
EDIT: Just heard Oilers are giving up a 5th rounder too. I'm still okay.

Well we got something for Cole. I was hoping the Oilers were going to draft O'Sullivan during his draft year. I hope he works out for the them.
As for LA, I think they got a very decent player from the Canes. They made out well with this 3 or whatever way deal. Lombardi has his team going in the right direction, imo.

So TSN gets Erik Cole on the phone. He obviously sounds broken up and Duthie cuts him off because the Pope of Hockey Brian Burke is holding a press conference?
Classy stuff there TSN.
Then they follow it up with another 10 minute session with Brian Burke.

....the softest team in hockey just got softer.
I have serious concerns about that. Sully and Kotalik are as soft as they come.
I like Sully - he's as slick as Gags - but he's also a boom or bust player, and put up just 14 goals playing with a much, much better C in Kopitar than he has here in Horcoff. Time will tell if this kid puts it together. LA obviously felt he wasn't going to be able to do so.
I'm not as ga-ga over these moves as some here today, but thankfully, the team 1) didn't lose Cole for nothing via UFA and 2) finally got up off their hands and made a move, ANY move.
Plus, I don't trust MacT to get the most out of a kid like Sully. MacT generally doesn't like players of this ilk.

He can skate really well, Mac-T LOVES that, and as long as he's willing to work hard and compete, Mac-T will love that, and from what Daum said, that seems to be the case.
Hemsky can do NO wrong.

....not the kind of player MacT likes at all. Au contraire.
Sully hasn't put it together, not this year. LA just gave up on the kid, regardless of his skill level.
Asking MacT to squeeze the juice out of this orange is like asking a chef to fix a car.
I'm awfully skeptical.
This team went from no grit to....zero grit.
I hope it works, as I love the kid's skill level. But I can't say I'm overly optimistic.

You must not watch either player very often, because neither Osullivan or Kotalik are soft at all. Patty plays a chip on shoulder, hes a gritty little bugger and get gets his nose dirty. He isnt having the year he had last year, but every time we've played the kings hes always been a threat. Hes automatically the best shooter on the team, save for Souray and maybe Kotalik.
Kotalik is big, built like a truck, and hes got more hits than anyone on the oil now that Cole is gone, and Chopper is hurt. Hes not soft at all, and hes got a fantastic one timer from the left point on the PP.
how you could not be pleased with these moves is...asinine.
