No Hemmer, No Brodziak. Roy is in, and so is Sanderson.
http://www.canada.com/edmontonjournal/news/sports/oilers/sto ry.html?id=3b6f616d-06b4-4f37-b4de-8033f5239dce&k=51514
The Oilers will be short a forward for tonight's tilt against the Canucks, but they are apparently long on pride.
Kyle Brodziak, who played through the second period and all of the third with a broken ring finger, will not dress. Nor will Ales Hemsky, who has a sprained knee. Geoff Sanderson, who last played on March 4, will draw in, as will defenceman Mathieu Roy. In other words, the Oilers will play seven on the back end, 11 up front, in a game that has playoff implications for the ninth-place Canucks.

Should the Cowpokians drop their tilt in regulation tonight, they are going to be BEGGING for a favor from the Oilers.
Ironic huh?
In fairness to Hall, I've wanted to throw a waterbottle at Eakins all season.

I expect a big game from Sanderson cause hopefully it will be his last. A nice big blow out tonight would send the boys to the offseason in better spirits so thats what I predict.

Amazing that Sanderson didn't bag his 25-30 goals like a number of our optomistic board members were predicting pre season.

That was never his role here and I don't think was given that chance relagated to the 3rd and 4th line. You cannot get 25 goals with about 4mins average on the ice. Sandy had the speed, but can't gel with our coach and our system. He had wheels and should have been allowed to be the power forward his is, I bet we would have seen a different story.
The very definition of insanity is doing the exact same thing expecting different results.
Generally Disappointed.

I don't have anything against the Canucks, but I'm hoping that the Oilers win this game.
It's a matter of pride, and I'd rather not hear the "MVP" and "Lou" chants again in the first round of playoffs.
The Preds with a weaker squad than each Edmonton and Vancouver should be getting the nod.

I on the other hand absolutely despise the Canucks and nothing would make me happier than seeing them miss the playoffs.
Even if they do sneak in Detroit will smash them out in the first round, but all the same, I'd love to see us end their playoff hopes. The fact that it's in their building would be even sweeter.

You are not alone my freind. I have loathed them more than the Flames..........for years. It started with Bertuzzi. The Sedin sisters, Cooke (when he was there) Kesler, their clueless fairweather fans. It has all kept the hate alive.
Knocking the Vancouver Canucks out tonight is the BEST consolation prize I can think of.

Edmonton beating the Canucks tonight is now my Stanley Cup. By far my most hated team in the league. A win by the Oilers tonight would definitely make my week.

I'm hoping JDD gets the start tonight. It'd be an excellent test for him, playing a game against a theoretically desperate Canucks team.

If Calgary loses to Minnesota today, I hope we lose as well. Granted that Nashville wins its remaining two games, Calgary loses today and Vancouver wins, that final game of the year between Vancouver and Calgary will mean, if Vancouver wins in regulation they're in and Calgary is out.

I would like to see JDD in net too but it doesn't look like that will happen.....

LINEUP UPDATE (1:56 PM): Geoff Sanderson will be playing on a line with Zack Stortini and Mathieu Roy. Roy moves up to forward due to the injuries to Ales Hemsky and Kyle Brodziak... Dwayne Roloson gets his 11th straight start tonight.
I hope Roy gets a goal!

Does anyone know if there is any way for the Flames to miss the playoffs? I would like to see that more then anything. If Van and Cal- end up tied who holds the tie breaker... ?
I love the Oilers and all but being from southern alberta,I can not think of anything sweeter then the Flames missing the playoffs andshut up all the fans that have been giving me a hard time.

See, i just don't understand why we wouldn't play JDD. Roloson has played a ton of games in a row, has not been great other than a couple of them, is older. Why not give a guy his 1st nhl start? Are we afraid of bruising rolis ego or something?
I suppose the excuse will be....we want to play our best players.

According MacT in the journal this morning he wants to preserve the integrity of the game and the NHL so he is going to play his best players. Message to those teams in the past who iced a second string team when the oilers needed them (detroit specifically mentioned)

Yes I remember even as far back as Bowman. Iced an AHL team against the Los Angeles Kings. Oilers miss playoffs with the LA victory.
Got into a huge argument with someone about it. He said it's not against the rules. And he is right. At that point Iginla was sitting at 49 goals. I said, "tonight if the Flames are going into the 3rd period and Jerome is still sitting at 49 goals Sutter should pull the goalie until Jerome scores. It won't affect their position in the postseason. It's a nothing game and they can lose 25-2 if they want." It's not against the rules! Of course Sutter has too much class.
I think as a coach or gm it's your duty to run your organization with some class. My examples are far apart but they are both within the rules. Just because something is between the lines it doesn't always mean it's right. What fathead Scotty Bowman does is outright ignorant. I've always thought Bowman was way overrated anyway. I've heard a former player mutter the same.
Still fuming about that....

I'm from Vancouver and all year its been "how are your Oilers doing LOL" until recently they have all been pretty quiet. It would mean so much to us Oil fans in BC to shut those ,Knuckledragging bandwagon jumping nucks fans, up for good this year and would even be sweeter if they lost Sat. night too that would mean we finished above them in the standings.
The Oil will rise AGAIN

Also proud to be an Oil fan this team exceeded my expectations. I honestly thought we would be out of the playoffs by the deadline and to finish this strong gives all of us hope that we will be playoff contenders next year and Stanley cup contenders in the near future.

Chicago can still make 90 points they are on 86 with 2 to play.
Is there a formula for them?
Sorry this is a little off topic

Just off the top of my head I would think Van and NSH would need to lose out the remaining games and CHI needs to win out giving them 90 points and 89 for NSH

April 3rd, 2004...Canucks officially eliminated us from the playoffs (although Nashville beat Colorado in OT the next day which would have made a win moot...Salo let in the winner IIRC).
We owe them a return favor...lets go out on a high...get 'er done boys!

No Salo had been traded to Avs for Gilbert at the deadline, that night was a classic Conklin crumble under pressure night (I think he let in 5 goals and some that the current version of Roli may have even stopped).

Correct...but I was referencing the fact that Salo played for the Avs in their last game of the year against the Preds (we would have needed the Avs to win that one to get in)...but Salo let in an OT goal for the Predator win.

I am torn as I hate the Nucks and their fans even more...but...the Flames fans have been real douchebags the last two days with their "No Stanley for you" crap. So to me, I figure it's almost better if they miss because on paper they should have run away with the division, but instead their season should be considered an utter disappointment. They were physically healthy all season, but their mental health and heart health should be questioned. Really, the Flames are an embarrassment and I hope they miss. Either way, if Nashville makes it, it's a win-win.
Hell I was happy with anything above 25th place this year, so for me the last month was our playoffs, of course the Top steppers which are Flames fans can't understand

And it's over...so a win and we put the Flames in and the Canucks are sent home. A loss and it sets up a playoff qualifying game on Saturday between Calgary and Vancouver (although I believe Nashville has to get a least a point against the Hawks for this to happen.
