Take heart! That could mean anything.
Joni's a big boy, I think he'll be back sooner rather than later. It's possible the Oil are hyping the injury a bit in the hopes of getting whatshisface from the Wild suspended. I didn't see the hit, but Rod made it sound pretty low down and dirty...but then again, it WAS Rod.
So who knows? All I'm saying is that "indefinitely" means "we don't know," not "forever."
CAMPAIGN TO MAKE THE OILERS AN INJURY FREE ZONE!!!

The answer to that is whether or not you think Big Georges' comments were accurate or simply propaganda.
Personally, I think it leans to the sour grapes, propaganda column myself. The Oilers were relatively injury free for years. It's our turn. I think this question is simply a case of people trying to put a rational explanation to a situation that doesn't fit the rules of logic.
It sucks, but trying to place blame in such a speculative situation isn't going solve the problem. I'm sure that you can find many "tough" teams who have had a rash of injuries if you look through the stats.
If you want to blame something, I suggest the instigator rule. In the last 100 games, we have been behind the 8-ball in most games so we can't afford to take the extra 2-minutes. So, we take it on the chin and can't send the message.
Hey, it's as good a theory as any. Likely, it's a whole bunch of factors, including bad luck.

Mr.Oiler,
The latest 2 injuries were results of dirty hits. And in both cases, not a damn thing was done about it.
Part of that is MacT hockey. Chasing the 2 points on the night, but risking more down the line. At some point, you have to say screw it and lay down the law. Might just ensure more wins as the season progresses. Star players ARENT being protected, and this team can't afford to have them out.
The other part is there's no one here that scares anyone. Now although Georges didn't do his job effectively here, and has sour grapes, he does have a point.
Jody Shelly (or similar, but preferably Shelly) would go a long way to limiting the kinds of injuries that I'm seeing.
In fairness to Hall, I've wanted to throw a waterbottle at Eakins all season.

I would love a Brian McGratton type:
-knows his role
-no drama (or radio show hosting) like there was with Big George
-seems like the kind of guy that teammates love and allows players to play with confidence knowing he's at the end of the bench.
Sigh...our Coach/GM seem to be oblivious to this problem and will do nothing.

The hit wasn't that dirty. The call should of been boarding and Pitkanen put himself in a vulnerable position. That being said, players should have some respect for each other and Demitra should of waited until Pitkanen was in a safer area before giving him a shove to the back.
Hopefully #25 is back in the lineup very soon.
Now Sean Hill's sucker punch to Cogs was dirty. Pure cheap shot.

There will come a time this season when the players may give up on a game and retaliate. Hopefully it's against Minnesota. Here's an interesting rumor from Spector though...
There's talk the Philadelphia Flyers organization still isn't happy with rookie Steve Downie regarding his 25-game suspension for his pre-season headhunting of Ottawa's Dean McAmmond, and could be trade bait by the deadline.
Spector's Note: If the Flyers were to shop Downie he would have some value as there would clubs seeking a promising young physical forward. That being said, it remains to be seen if Downie is indeed available.
http://spectorshockey.net/rumors.html
Phily is a trading partner and if the Oil are going to stay young for a year or two more, he might be an interesting fit. I'm not saying we need a goon, nor do I feel he really is one, regardless of his history, but Philly is loaded with that aspect of their game.

The injury site now says day-to-day, so nothing serious I assume. Good news.
I would like to see a legitimate enforcer, but in the meantime team toughness needs to be increased with physical play. In watching the oilers this year they seem to hit a lot less than previous seasons. I think the ability to punish teams within the play would also help.

I find it very hard to believe that the broad street bullies would be unhappy with Downie. Seems to me like whoever is starting this rumour must not have much real news to right about. I just can't see the Flyers giving up on a youngster like him who is going to take a month or two to get-up-to-speed after missing 25 games!
Like c'mon.

The lovely injury bug that just doesn't want to leave the Oilers.
Funny how it only strikes the good Oilers isn't it? Maybe Hemsky, Pitkanen and Horc to protect him from the bug should ask Staios where he got his shots at!
I love how the injury bug passes by Staios.
But with all the darkness around the Oilers theres only a matter of time before the good times start rollin!

It would be a tragedy if Staios had a Moreau like set of injuries and miss 103 games....
So this is what hope feels like?

If you're thinking positively about the Oilers these days, I don't think attitude is the problem. Problems that profound would require a brain surgeon because it's clear the core is rotten, not just the peripheral emotions.
Or are you going to come out and give a positive spin on what is becoming another disaster of a season? I like positives and besides throwing out the youth / future is bright argument that we've heard since about 1994, there is no none. I'm sick of the future is bright argument. Our present hasn't been hopeful in a long, long time.
As a result this place looks like a graveyard of what were happy Oiler fans. I heard rumours that some of the drippingly sick positive folk are offering seances to clear the mind and pretend it's 1984 all over again.

Anyone else get images of Tom Higgins running around clapping & doing his best Chicken Little impression, each and every time a microphone is stuck in front of MacT's yapper?
Today's piece of solid gold, courtesy of the MacT "propaganda machine"?
"At the end of the day, I think the positives far out-weigh the negatives in the game"
No, no, Craig - your defense first, second, and third team just gassed a 3 goal lead and snatched defeat away from the jaws of certain victory.
If you can't even coach THAT successfully, then what in the Sam Hill are you even doing behind the bench here anymore?
Happy to announce a permanent Oilfan vacation.

The truth hurts sometimes, and the truth is, the Oilers suck right now and are likley a good 2 years away from being a legit playoff contender.

Grow balls? What, did the Oilers finally get that time machine going in order to insert all of Dave Brown, Dave Semeko, Marty McSorley, and Mark Messier circa 1984 into the lineup tonight?
Expecting such is about as realistic as expecting a 5-0 win with potentially all of Hemsky, Pitkanen, and Pisani out of the lineup (in addition to Torres and Greene, as we already knew).

When did criticising the team become the equivalent of no longer being a fan? Who here has suggested switching teams?
If people cared, would they complain this much? Are you seriously THAT out of touch?
Forget about talking about the Oilers growing a set - pull your head out of the sand and grow a brain.

So being a fan to you is irrationally supporting your franchise no matter what.
Sorry, not all of us are that stupid. Because we care about the franchise, we care about the on-ice product. Sorry that I did not realize you were that unrefined to the game of hockey. Most of us here are able to see through the media and make qualified judgments about the game.
To accuse any of us being a bandwagon fan because we're being negative about a currently crappy team is short-sighted and ignorant.

lol by 'stayin on the bandwagon' no matter what you are by definition a Leafs fan.
Let me ask you how old you are and how long you have been an oiler fan. You can't possibly have really followed the Oilers for a full 7 or 8 years during the MacT era and have the happy happy joy joy attitude that you have.

Pathetic mess is a good way to describe the Oilers.
