Edmonton Oilers: Winger Ales Hemsky will likely be out until after Christmas. He will not be able to skate for another two weeks with his injured shoulder.

- Edmonton Journal

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/feature/?fid=10460&hubname=

This upper body, lower body thing is really starting to get annoying. They also have Smyth out indefinitely. This is what I was worried about with Hemsky, people are running him and no one is doing anything about it. Granted that hit was fairly weak, but the point is that he's out for weeks now. No one takes care of the supposed future of the franchise.

I must admit, this doesn't add up too well for me. I have a wonky shoulder, but I have yet to see a pinched nerve or partial dislocation effect my legs. There was murmurs that he had a bruised sternum -- at least that story would add up to not skating. Just a shoulder injury? I'm not so sure.

The Oilers are certainly being real quiet on the Hemsky front.

EditPS. There is an article in the Sun today talking about his bruised collarbone and shoulder. http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Hockey/NHL/Edmonton/2006/12/08/268 7197-sun.html

I'm not sure about anyone else, but reading this today just made me even more sceptical - sounds more like hopeful party-line kinda talk than anything one could consider concrete. And don't ask me why its under the Eskimos header...

http://www.edmontonsun.com/Sports/Eskimos/2006/12/12/2753104 -sun.html

Makes no real sense, imo. Why try and ram in a single game, or two at max before the break given your condition? Waiting until after the break, usuing that time to get back into game shape, & giving yourself nearly an extra week of rest and then coming back closer to 100% seems to make a world more sense to me.

I agree with you, there shouldn't be any reason why he's not keeping his legs ready to go. This whole upper body/lower body injury thing that is going around the NHL right now is really annoying.

well, same with moreau. he's not skating either. i think it has more to do with increased likelihood of falling and reinjury. so, hemmer likely has a seperated shoulder, which would suck....

Didn't they say that Hemmer wore a sling after he got injured in that game?
If so, maybe his shoulder is throwing him off balance, and it's the risk of falling and getting reinjured that's preventing him from skating.

It was nice to see Horc stand up for Lupul on Wednesday night. I think there's going to need to be a real we-stand-for-each-other attitude in that room with no "enforcer" to speak of. I don't think it'll be Jason Smith jumping guys, because if he or Staios are in the box, our 'd' on the PK is a bit thin.

But guys like Winchester and Greene can carve out a nice space for themselves if they keep standing up for the other guys. If nothing else, the hidden blessing (if you want to call it that) in the injuries to Smyth/Hemsky, and with Moreau watching from upstairs is that they are being forced to do this. Not like last year when everyone assumed Georges would do it (which he didn't) so Moreau did, and no one else had to. This could turn the team in a good direction...

The league is so obsessed with getting rid of violence in the game that they don't care their stars are getting hurt. It's more of their short sightedness. Trying to sell the game right now by saying there's no violence, then they'll realize there are no more stars either.

I agree, if he's going to miss all the games until that point anyway there's no point in rushing him back. Last thing we need is for Hemsky to come back and get hurt again because he's trying to be a hero.

When he comes back, hopefully someone will step up to the plate and stop letting him get bullied around. People are taking runs at Hemsky all year long, and no one does anything about it. For someone that's going to be around for 6 years and is arguably our most skilled player, that is completely retarded.

Hopefully when he comes back MacT doesn't spit in his face again playing him with a career AHLer. They guy signed 6 years with us when everyone else was leaving, playing him with Toby isn't exactly rewarding him.

What do you mean? Do you mean that it's not very productive playing a Rem Murray like player with the best player we've got? No our coach wouldn't do that... lmao

I have supported MacT pretty much through everything but I can't support Toby playing more than 5 minutes a game. I actually really can't support him in the line up. We have too much talent in the system to be wasting development time on Toby Petersen. He is at most a PB guy that can fill in every now and then. Only a idiot wouldn't play JFJ MAP and Winchester together after the success they had playing together for the Bulldogs. You look at 3 guys like that... they know if the line plays good noone is going down. They would have the chemistry they all know and like eachother and can relate to one and another. Toby ***** up every line he is on IMO. MacT and company all talking about "we see Mikhnov as a top 6 player" then when we have injurys to 2 top 6 players Toby's ice time increases and Mikhnov doesn't get a chance. No goal scoring production along with negative +- is what Toby brings, we don't need that. The pp is looking like ****. Wouldn't now be a good time for Mikhnov to be on the 1st unit PP infront of the net using his 6'5 body for screening the goalie and picking up rebounds. Mikhnov should have taken Smyth's role IMO. Consirdering Mikhnov's play his last couple games and his production on the W/B PP I figured it would be automatic. Of course I forgot MacT has no balls and only plays conservative. Even with Smyth and Hemmer out of the lineup we have more than enough skill on the team to not have to win a game 2-1.

Thx..

I almost made a post asking why the message board was so messed up with every post mixed up from days before.. glad I didn't lmao

By the way.... I got banned from HF last year because I kept saying Greene was a number 4 d and that he would turn out to be a top 1-2 guy Like Foote but since the mod "ice dragon" didn't agree with me and kept giving me 3 points for flamming I got banned. I think we are on the same page about how we feel about Greene.

God No...

The show would start late...

Probably be missing the round clock for parts...

A couple unfortunate blackouts in the action...

Shoddy commentary and no post fight interviews....

And it would still cost 14 bucks....

Just a thought... maybe we need a Semenko type riding shotgun.......Our best option right now is Torres or Winchester.....DON'T GET ME WRONG, WINNY and Raffi are not Semenko, but they can stand up for their teamates and both have stepped up there game as of late. Torres is a top 6 guy and should be a better fit,but he also plays so well with Stoll and Pisani. Winchester has a very good shot, can dig in the corners for Hemmer and Sykora and provide a physical presence as well................Maybe JFJ will fill that role eventually confused2

I would also like to see Lecalvier with Hemsky.....think we could work a Smyth/Vinny trade if Smyth signs a contract extension with TBay..we would able to sign Sykora if it was expanded to a Smyth/Horcoff for Vinny/Boyle

Sykora-Vinny-Hemsky
Torres-Stoll-Pisani/Lupul
Moreau-Reasoner-Lupul/Pisani
JFJ-MAP-Winchester

Bring back Mr Laraque you run our guys he'll crush you without throwing his shoulder out. He cant skate we all know that but can anyone chuck tham as good?
Wayne needed protection and look what he did. There would be no more knees jml and no one running franchise players. Bring George Back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So we can watch him shy away from hitting and pretend he's a goal scorer? I think we've all seen quite enough of that.

Very good news to hear. Thanks for the tidbits! Seems fast if he wasn't skating only a week ago... but if he's ready, all the better.
