I have never been so pissed off in a long time with a ref as I am after that ridiculous call.
Furious wouldn't even describe it. I would not doubt one bit that he bet on Dallas with some bookie.

McGeough should be FIRED.
Not one, but two BLOWN calls.
He can go STRAIGHT TO HELL.

If the NHL doesn't follow up on this one, they've got a serious problem.
My question though, why wasn't it a reviewable goal? Because McGeough made the call on the spot? It doesn't seem right to me...

Well, for the reason they put the clock back to 7 seconds. If it had been a hand pass, the play dies as soon as it goes back and Stoll touches it, prior to the shot. So when Hemsky scores in theory the whistle has already gone. I saw McGeough waving his arms after the goal, but I'd be real interested to see slow-mo of what he does as it comes back to the point, and hear whether he actually blew the whistle.

I'm as stunned about this as anybody, but the replay I saw from center ice, he clearly starts waving as Stoll takes the shot. He's an idiot, but he was consistent on the call.

Okay, to be at least slightly fair, just saw the replay from a camera behind Stoll. McGeough did wave it dead as soon as Stoll touched it. So he's an idiot, but he made the call instantly. Even though he couldn't have seen it.

but there for sure should be some sort of action against him from the NHL. It's times like these where they have to set an example.
We are all human and we make mistakes, but ref's who make calls that cost teams pts should have to face some sort of action.

THAT WAS ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS! the short end of the stick not once but TWICE. He wasnt even in position to call that crap. The NHL will be having word about that game for a while.
I am raging mad right now.

HOW IN THE F*CK CAN HE DO THAT?
What's the recourse? A ref can simply decide to call no goal on a whim?
Good god am I pissed. The NHL needs to be allowed to look at stuff like this and overrule the ref. To allow a goal on a missed interference (1st goal) is one thing, but to DISALLOW a perfectly good goal for nothing is simply unacceptable.

I'm so mad I'm shaking...
Do you know how happy I was to see a clean goal scored to tie it up with seconds left?
I absolutely cannot believe that just happened....that is the worst call I've ever seen in hockey history. We don't play until tuesday now...unbelievable.

It would be nice if an official could draw on what a linesman who was 1/2 a foot away seen and then reverse his call.
Then of course you would have to admit you were wrong. And it's all about looking cool. You can tell Mcgeough feels REAL cool waving calls off.
Enjoy this kick in the teeth Mick.

I hope in his next reffing assignment, the puck hits him in the face, Van Massenhoven style.
Two AWFUL calls against the Oilers in one night. Add this screw job to the mail-in against Phoenix, and a team that should be 8-4-1 is 7-6.

That's the only silver lining to this: The rest of the league can see what a showboating shitbag McGeough is. It's time to lob the Mr. Magoo glasses on the ice whenever he's in town.
If I'm McGeough, I'd have severe difficulty living with myself, knowing how poorly I perform my job. And it's not like this is the first time he's pulled this BS.
We deserved a point out of this. Hopefully this lights a fire under the boys.

Not even close. After game 7 I felt about as bad as I ever had. Tonight was just bad luck during a regular season game.
Although adding the two together gets me closer to how Sabres' fan felt after the Bret Hull goal.

I think this team's love affair with blocking shots is costing the team. Immediately prior to the first Dallas goal both Smidj and Smith were fooled into diving onto the ice allowing Morrow to get the puck on the dot with ample time for Big 'E' to crash the net.

something I even started thinking of last year, but was more worried about the injury aspect of it all then what you just described.
It's really something to consider though as at times I feel going down blocking shots so much starts to throw the defense out on the ice like chicken's and makes it harder for them to regroup.

Mikey wrote on Fri, 03 November 2006 22:17 | how can he just wave off a goal? Why not count it and go look to see if there was a hand pass?
|
Can't do that. Play is dead as soon as Stoll touches the puck, based on McGeough's call. You can't review the goal because there is no goal - Hemsky scored it after the play ends. No shot, no rebound, no goal, all that time got put back on the clock. It's a stunningly bad call, but the situation only comes up because the Oilers banged it in so quickly after the hand pass call.

I know what he meant. My answer is correct. When there's a hand pass call, you don't wait to see what happens next, the play is automatically dead when the hand pass is received.
It's only an issue because the "goal" was almost instant after the call - nobody had time to realize McGeough was blowing the play dead. But the play is dead the instant Stoll touches the puck.
The rules aren't at fault here, this isn't reviewable and really couldn't be reviewable. Mick McGeough is at fault for making a cosmically bad and strange call.

Players are held accountable for their actions on the ice, and so should be the officials.
If a player messes up bigtime, he is suspended. Same should go for that idiot.
Bush league BS call that was.
In fairness to Hall, I've wanted to throw a waterbottle at Eakins all season.

I don't know how you make that call.
You have to know that players hold the stick a couple inches above the blade on face-offs. If you don't specifically see the glove hit the puck, you just have to let the play go. Otherwise you have to call every second face-off as a glove pass.

...Major League Baseball has the concept of playing under protest. That is to say, a manager could tell an umpire after a ridiculous, game-altering non-judgement call (fair/foul, safe/out, ball/strike, etc.) that his team is now playing the game under protest, the league office reviews the game if they lose, and if they decide the manager's complaint is valid, they restart from the point of the protest.
I can't believe this, but Major League Baseball in the beginning of the 20th century was, in this department, miles ahead of the National Hockey League in 2006.

And the point of protest should be 4 seconds left in a 3-3 game. Play the OT and SO if necessary. We got robbed a point. What if we miss the playoffs by a point?
