Gonna be a huge game! To bad EM can't be there for some added grit.
Watch for Hemsky/Sykora line to go shift for shift with Pronger...and skate circles around em'

.....Anaheim is right up there with Toronto, Vancouver, Carolina, and Calgary on my list of teams I dislike greatly.
Oh yeah, I don't like Selanne, Perry, or Randy Carlyle either.
Go Oil. 5-3 for the good guys tonight, Pronger goes -3.

JF Jacques should be in the lineup this evening replacing Alexei Mikhnov as stated in the journal. Look forward to seeing what he can do with Winchester and Reasoner.

4-2 Oil
Sykora, Lupul, Thor
Tico pots an EN.
Just before the 3rd goal, #25 trips over the blue line, Oiler fans laugh so hard they either have to watch the goal in replay, or they've peed their pants.

and I mean abysmal debut, why not give JFJ a shot tonight?
I don't think they'll be too many folks questioning this decision eh?

Against Phoenix, Mikhnov redefined the phrase "flail away".
There was severe trepidation in his play.
He needs to spend some time in the "A" and work on playing the man. Learn what he can do and what he can't as far as penalties go too.

I'm looking very much forward to this game. So many 8 pm starts this far... I prefer 7:00 game starts. I hate falling asleep in the third period... I don't like to miss anything!

Im very interested to see how Edmonton stacks up against Anahiem. Should be a good game, and I think that our quick speedy edmonton forwards match up against a good defensive squad like anaheim

Another game I won't get to see, stupid night classes.
Some of my keys:
1) Puck Possession. The ducks have skill and they can make a goalie look bad. If they don't have the puck, they don't score. This is especially important against a team like Anaheim that plays a solid two-way game and can attack in waves. In particular, keep the puck away from Pronger and Niedermayer because they have two of the best outlet passes in the game today. One the puck is on their stick in the defensive zone, the play is dead.
2) Roll the lines. Anaheim has great skill at the top of the order, but as you go down the lines it gets significantly weaker. Beyond the top two D and the top 4 or 5 forwards, there isn't much to talk about. Make sure to get chances against the bottem lines because they won't come against the top.
3) Use speed. Anaheim is a talented team, but a lot of their players are lacking in speed. Attack with speed and their bottem 4 defensemen will not be able to handle it.
4) Take advantage of mistakes. Anaheim has a lot of veterans (Pronger, Niedermayers, Marchant, O'Donnell) but they also have a lot of young players that lack significant NHL experience. Force them to make errors and then take advantage of it.
This is not going to be an easy game. In fact, this will likely be the hardest game we've had so far this season. Play it right thought and victory is in the cards.
Why did Calgary host the Olympics?
So Calgarians could have a flame to look up to.

They don't have numbers of the front of their jersey's either. You knew who it was, that's all the matters in a cartoon.

Me and a buddy are gonna be at the game tonight, right behind the goal the Oilers shoot at in the 1st and 3rd.
Anyone have any requests? We'll be pissing off Ducks fans with our chants like we did during the conference final last year. That is if you wanna call those guys "fans", they probably still think Kariya is on the team.

The Ducks are another solid defensive team that are likely to drive the Oilers nuts and make our forwards look lazy.
I expect the game day thread to be full of the "why aren't they trying!" type comments.
I'll expect a 2-1 game or possible 2-0.
First goal wins it as it will affect the way the rest of the game is played.

I also believe it will be a close game and low scoring as well... its ours to win as much as ours to lose. We have 4 solid lines and are quite capable of winning. As long as we show up our chances are fine.

I would bet the scouting reports are in and 28-71-83 get the hard match versus the Pronger pair and the Pahlsson forward line. They hold their own, but won't get much of a sniff in this one.
Carlyle likes to keep Selanne away from Horcoff, so will try to insert his top line against 14-16-34 and more likely versus JFJ-19-26.
So, 94-10-15 will get matched by either the rookie line, or the Marchant line. I'd bet on the latter with half of their ice time versus SNeidermeyer and the other half verus Pronger. I like these guy's chances.
14-16-34 should be able to handle the checking duties given to them. JFJ-19-26 might be a nice dynamic trio too.
Maybe its time for 34 to score a clutch goal too.

I for one actually like Carlyle a bit, he is a prince compared to the a-hole coach in San Jose....but I dislike pretty much the entire Ducks team other than the coach and Wienermeyer...how can you hate a name like that?
I expect Lupul to actually have his best game to show them what they lost. I expect the game to be a 2-1 or 3-2 affair....
Pronger is slow and I would expect Hemsky to skate circles around his gap toothed ass....I would love to see the Euro line light up Pronger ...that would be oh so sweet
So this is what hope feels like?

Anaheim is gonna be a tough test for sure...I doubt Gap-tooth or Niedermayer plays less than 30 minutes each
Anaheim is a strong defensive team so it'll be low-scoring...2-1 Oil in a shoot-out
Lupul gets the winner while Pronger misses the net on his chance
Hall-RNH-Eberle...future #1 line

3-1 Oilers
Although the Ducks have strong defense, the Oilers will come out strong against Chris "No" Longer. Especially the guys that played with him last year like Torres,Smyth, Pisani, and Stoll. Also goaltending for the Ducks is average, IMO.
Goals*:
Sykora on the PP
Hemsky ES
Smyth on a deflection
Assists:
Thoreson, Tjarnqvist, Smith, Sykora
Hopefully Torres abosolutly crushes Pronger on his first shift. I can see it now, it'll be like Pronger's hit in the playoffs against Detroit in front of the Planters advertisement.
*Only Edmonton goals/assists

I'd like to see JFJ step up and have a big first game. Do it up with Beaucheman for the first official Oiler scrap of the year. Remember, he's a lefty!

Any Oiler win will do, I think I'll make an extra effort to listen to this game tonight, and also this post takes the thread past #25, which should be banned till the player that wears that number for the Ducks has his tiny backside kicked by every single Oiler tonight.
If opportunity doesn't knock, build a door.

Wow big game. I am so pumped. I hope Hemsky just dingles around the ice and around Pronger and Torres gets in his face and widens that gap between his teeth and is in his face all night.
That being said, the win is the most important thing and we haven't been too good on the road this year. This would be a good road game to win with the Coyotes and Capitals next in line.
A win tonight and we can get a nice streak going.
6-5 Oilers

I would assume Giguare, as he has won the starting positon with the Ducks (7 games to 2, so far). He deserves it to, he's the better goalie.

Yep Giggy's playing and playing very well. He was the player of the week in the NHL last week. Thing is, when Smytty gets in his grill all bets are off.

Anaheim is undefeated, let's hope we get our groove on again tonight and kick some duck butt. By the interviews i read from them, they are looking forward to this matchup just as much as we are.

Anaheim has two overtime losses, which is a defeat in most people's books. I wish the NHL didn't give out these new-agey "ooh, you tried so hard! you should be rewarded!" sympathy points. Point inflation is no good.

Last minute of play in a 3-3 game. Hemsky dekes to his backhand around a befuddled Chris Pilon and slides it across the crease where Sykora pots one. Also expect a big out of Loops and the tope line. Go Oil Go!
