1 Cup

From www.edmontonoilers.com, here's tonight's Oiler roster:

1 Devan Dubnyk G
38 Jeff Deslauriers G

14 Raffi Torres LW
15 Joffrey Lupul RW
18 Ethan Moreau LW
25 Jan Hejda D
26 Brad Winchester RW
36 Mathieu Roy D
40 Dan Syvret D
41 J-F Jacques LW
42 Jonas Almtorp C
45 Toby Petersen C
60 Sebastien Bisallion D
65 Troy Bodie RW
71 Petr Sykora C
76 Bryan Young D
77 Tom Gilbert D
78 Marc-Antoine Pouliot C
83 Ales Hemsky RW
94 Ryan Smyth LW

GOAL:
Dubnyk
Drouin-Deslauriers

DEFENCE:
Syvret - Roy
Young - Gilbert
Hejda - Bisaillon

FORWARDS:
Smyth - Petersen - Lupul
Torres - Sykora - Hemsky
Moreau - Almtorp - Bodie
Jacques - Pouliot - Winchester

Now no offense to Roy, Syvret, Bisallion, Bodie or Young, but these guys are NOT making the team this year. I really hope they cut some of these guys and get the roster down to 30 or so between tonight's game and the game on Wednesday with the Canucks.

No Schremp tonight, fourth line duty the other night... either Shremp is not impressing the coaching staff, or they have already decided that its the "A" for him this year.

I though for sure that we would see a lot more vets in this line up tonight, I wonder what the shames are going to show up with.

Now that's a young defense.

It'll be interesting to see who they lean on for PK, who gets the PP time, and who logs the most minutes.

If they would have lost in Calgary, do you think they'd still have gone so young on the d?

I'm going tonight (a day after getting 4 wisdom teeth removed), my face is swollen like Kanye West after his accident. Yelling and cheering may be a problem, but GO OIL GO!

Interesting lineup and yes, very young on D indeed.

I can't see the shames dressing most of their vets for a second game in a row, but who knows.

Just got the line up from the Calgary site:

Forward Lines

Tanguay Lombardi Lundmark
Huselius Lundmark Friesen
Nilson Yelle Amonte
Prust Taratukhin Godard

Defence Pairings

Hamrlik Zyuzin
Ro. Regher A. Ference
Giordano B. Ference

Goalies

McLennan Krahn

They must think highly of Lundmark as he's playing on two lines. icon_lol

I definately think we should be able to beat them tonight as well, especially with the Torres/Sykora/Hemsky line playing.

With the exception of Tanguay, none of the other vets are too dangerous.

Go Oil!! rock

Hmmm....

I appreciate the fact that they're giving these guys a last look, but I'm of the opinion that the team really needs to start trimming the fat off the roster and starting to get a look at the regular season lines to try and establish some chemistry here.....

The D? Yikes....hope that's not a typo and they're actually playing Iginla tonight as well...because the kids may be thrown to the wolves...

At the very least it's gonna showcase Dubnyk to see how he responds after his shut out.

Here's to Torres-Sykora-Hemsky destroying "Noodles" tonight....

I don't think they need to be in a hurry to get under 30 players yet. There's still almost two full weeks before opening night. I'd rather not have all the vets playing and risking injury this early. The last couple games maybe, but for now, there's lots of time.

Good point...

Wasn't really considering the injury bug, but I guess we've already seen some preseason implications that could hurt the reg season for certain teams (Pittsburgh, Columbus, etc..)

I think it's good that they're letting all the young D play; let's see what they've got. With all of them playing for a spot, we should see just how good they measure up without being paired with Smith or Staois. I'm excited to hear this one tonight, win, lose or draw.

Yeah, the D looks pretty damn young, but it'll be interesting to see the young guys get more minutes/different situations than they normally would. Probably management's philosophy here.

If they were going to play DD in one of these why wouldn't that have done it in Calgary and given him an opportunity in front of family and friends?

I'm sure they can handle the 2.5 hour drive.

The Oilers have more important things to worry about.

Raffi Torres taking faceoffs for Sykora? He is 2 and 1 in the faceoff circle according the Edmonton Oilers live scoreboard. Sykora hasn't taken a faceoff.

I think MacT is trying to train more forwards on the faceoffs this preseason. If guys like Torres and Smyth can raise their faceoff % ten points over the year, it would help compensate for losing Peca. I'm guessing that faceoffs are also the Reasoner why Marty's back with the team - MacT wants two faceoff-capable guys on the ice in clutch situations. With our inexperienced D, faceoffs will be that much more important than in our playoff run.

Tanguay knocks in Tony Amonte's garbage on the powerplay. My God, this game sucks. The Oilers are playing crappy, the Flames are playing typical Flames hockey, and I'm thinking about going to bed.

It is only preseason, and that's why I'm just bored instead of worried. :P

The Oilers have had a bunch of powerplays (what was that McLennan penalty, anyway?), but they haven't done a whole heck of a lot with them. Still, I'm loving the Roy-Godard fight.

2-0. I think if Pouliot wants to make the team, he should probably stop taking penalties that lead to powerplay goals against. Maybe add a little offence too.

A draw is pretty good.

I'd say a draw gives him the nod over Winch as our new enforcer.

I don't know if I can handle those Rexall commercials for another whole season. They need to at least change that annoying background music, although I wish they'd scrap the whole stupid campaign. Whether you get it from a drug store or Safeway, Tylenol is still Tylenol.

2-1 Flames

Lupul got his first ex. goal as an Oiler...

We drop to 4-1 in the pre-season.

It's just exibition so I wouldn't be too woried about how easily the Flames shut down the powerful Oiler attack without their three best players in the lineup. Pre-season means nothing.

Way to go scoring 2 goals on our 2 minor league goalies and 6 rookie defensemen. Quite a feat!

I agree. It's no feat at all. Pre-season means nothing. How many times do I have to say it? confused2
