I realize he’s young. But look at the other young defencemen on the Kings team?
I don’t know WTH is wrong with this guy, but he is hot garbage as a defender right now.

I think the Oilers have done a poor job of putting their young and secondary players in positions to succeed until they’re expected to succeed. Bouchard is a great example of this. I do think it’s get better, largely thanks to Woodcroft in Bako and here, but it does suggest an organizational issue to me.

Exactly. He fails on BASIC defensive play. He looks like a guy who missed 3 years in the AHL learning how to play defense.. which he is. What amazes me is that he's been through a two NHL defense coaches.. which I'm sure have told him what his problems are.. and still doesn't seem to be catching on.
Same with McLeod, still doing big loops without engaging.. doesn't stop on pucks.. I even heard Woody say that was a problem they had been trying to get out of McLeod's game back when he was coaching in Bako.. stopping on pucks and engaging.. he still refuses to to do it.
