Colorado's stars showed up and looked WAYYYY more dangerous than 97 or 29 tonight.
McDavid in particular was completely invisible in this one.

A lot of Oilers were shown by the Avs how to play committed, winning hockey. Nurse was one of the players that should take note.

I think the team looked too scared of the Avs, especially in the last half of the third period. We just sat back and tried to defend - did the old Todd McLellan sit-on-the-tie routine. I hated that with McLellan, and it's not any better now. Hard to turn it back up again.
I think that's a coaching error by Woodcroft - it seemed a strategy, rather than just nerves, especially when you see Puljujarvi only getting one shift in the last 10. Hopefully he learns from it and we don't see that again.

I've noticed that a lot with Smith lately. He's so deep in the net that even some of the saves he makes I worry are going to be counted as goals. I wonder if that's him over-compensating for a lack of mobility due to the injuries?

Don't know if I agree with that, but I would agree that the Avs looked like they wanted to lose less than the Oil did.

Gotta admit, Kane is growing on me too. I should be more wary, but would be nice to catch another guy on the tail end of being an assbag and getting some benefit, like we did with Kassian. Although Kassian still needed to sign 1 year deals to stay motivated. I would probably try to stick to short terms with Kane too if we do try to extend him.

The funniest thing is after the play in front of opposing nets.. he'll put his stick into the goalie after a save at the whistle and most of the time the other d-men just look at their skate laces.. don't want to engage.. he provides pretty high value on the Swagger stat-sheet.
