We retain 315,000 of salary on Gagner.

Capfriendly now says we have 2.8M of "current cap space".

Stauffer indicates Kenny is still in on Ennis(Ott) and Cousins(MTL)

Ah nice. Ennis would still be a nice add for a later pick.

AA-McDavid-Ennis >>>>>>>>> Gagner-McDavid-Chaisson hehe

It’s done bro. Ennis is on his way.

It would be a similar facsimile to Nuge-Drai-Yams. Not sure if it translates on ice. Today is good day.

All while keeping the 1st round pick and getting Athanasiou who is under team control for at least one more season following this.

He has arb rights this summer.

I am sure the guys are sort of sad about Gags going as he's a good dude but they have to be absolutely stoked with their GM and fired up especially McD and Leon. They both have payed their asses off and dragged the team to the playoffs and their GM brings in 3 legit NHLers, 2 legit good top 9 wingers and gave up magic beans, a guy in Brodziak who they don't see and who's career is over due to injury and a 4th line winger making 3 times what he should.

I'm trying not to get too excited because you never know what will happen but is is what a real GM looks like? Addressing team needs and in all likelihood won all this trades.

He won the Neal trade. Anytime you get rid of Lucic and his contract that would impact the expansion draft at the very least that's a win.

They got Athanasiou who at worst is a top 9 forward with speed but who I think can be a top 6 guy. He scored 30 last year. He's got skill. They gave up 2 maybes that are if you are lucky 4 yrs away.

They brought in Ennis who will upgrade the bottom 6. Could play up but gave up nothing. A 5th is a most likely never will be.

Athanasiou's PDO is 0.916. Goalies basically save nothing when he's been out there. Worst sav% luck on the red wings this year. Lowest PDO in the NHL for guys that have played >500 mins 5v5.

Green not far behind with 0.954. He gets some saves, but still sad. 13th lowest in the NHL.

Hope there guys can quickly turn their mindset around getting away from an intentional tanking clown show.

Perhaps at some point, we’ll see McAthannis.

Though, personally, I believe believe we’ll see SheBaldnnis as a solid two way line.

Ryan Kuffner is also an RFA after this year. Currently a $1.35M AAV:

And as a winger with 9 points in the AHL this year, there's an excellent chance he's just a body thrown in the deal and won't ever be qualified by the Oilers this year.

No issue with the rest of this deal. I like Gagner, but last night it was pretty clear he isn't a great fit with McDavid. I don't mind him as a depth forward, but he's a big cap hit for that...someone had to go to make room.

Generally happy with the team taking some risks today to make the team better. I don't think we can win the Cup with this goaltending, but the squad is still better than it was yesterday.

That was one of his first nights with McDavid, could have been fine with a bit more time together. Obviously was never going to be on the same level, but is Chiasson can do it, I think Gagner could too.

First pro season out of college where he had fantastic numbers. I'd definitely want to keep him around to see if he can translate his college success to the A. CF says his cap hit is $925K, so a normal entry level price, I think I'd qualify him and see what he'd sign for, I think there's a player here. Maybe.

First pro season out of college where he had fantastic numbers. I'd definitely want to keep him around to see if he can translate his college success to the A. CF says his cap hit is $925K, so a normal entry level price, I think I'd qualify him and see what he'd sign for, I think there's a player here. Maybe.

We've got a lot of contracts, and teams usually have a preference for the guys they know best so if you're a scrub and you're pushing in to your mid-20s and there is anyone else they'd like to see with a shot? Then you're out to pasture.

He'll get a bit of a chance to impress the team down the stretch for the Condors, but I'll be surprised if he's on the 50-man roster next year.

Archibald, Haas, Sheahan, Ennis, P Russell, Green, Smith, Manning, Granlund, Jurco, Malone, Currie, & Lowe all expiring. That's 13 contracts, I think there's room for him. He hasn't even had a full year to adapt to pro yet. Yes, some of those 13 are roster players that need to be signed or replaced, but there's a number of AHL guys who don't need to be brought back either. I'd rather give him a contract than give another to Currie or Malone, you know what you have with those guys, this guy could turn into something.

But I also realize he might not, just offering a different point of view.

Not sure AA can start a huge brouhaha that ends with a goalie fight like Gagner can. But I'm willing to take a chance on him

So this is what hope feels like?

I remember him blocking a wicked shot, hopefully just a fractured tibia, send to McD's Doc's for a rebuild
... just joking.
I think he'll be back soon.

I assumed Keegan has two contracts so that if he gets cut or bought out he still shows up the next day.

You can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you just might find, you can get a lottery pick.

Jason Gregor on the wonderful twitter machine;

Source tells me Athanasiou injury is a bruise. Doesn't think it is serious. Would be good news if he plays Saturday so the return of Kassian is an addition, not just replacing another injured player. #Oilers

Making fun of how giddy Lames homer Hrudey was when McDavid was out with a bruise. He excitedly pointed out how a bruise can be worse than you think.
