Being an Oilers fan can definitely not be easy. But at the same time it doesn't help that fans can't let anything go. Why is there a discussion in a game day thread about defense pairings from 11 yrs ago with guys you might all be long retired? They are currently down 3 guys who could be top 4 dmen. How many teams can replace that many guys with truly quality guys EVER?

Three reasons:
1) This defence corps today recalls some of the worst ones we've dressed. The one highlighted was a little special because the Oilers were so depleted that they needed to reach out to some kid playing in the Q to come up and play the only NHL games he'd ever play. Bisaillon only ended up playing 54 AHL games in his career, so it's a bit fascinating we had to stretch that far.
2) Tangents happen, especially amongst a group of super-fans who all remember watching that era.
3) The management responsible for the poor depth of 11 years ago is largely still in place today...as we look at depth issues once more.

So if the Jets all at once were without 3 of:
Byfuglien, Trouba, Myers and Morrissey, who are these unbelievable players they would have at their disposal who can just step in and you won't notice a difference?
I get it. Management sucks. The Oilers defense isn't that great. I understand and agree with all of it. But what team in the league can lose 3 top 4 dmen and just replace them with guys who are just as good like EVER? I would honestly love to know because I don't have that answer.
