More shocking is that we had a forward playing D, and in the top 4 no less! What a statement about the organizational defensive depth at the time.

To be fair, we'd had a horrendous run of injuries.
I also fully believe that was the only year that the Oilers full-on decided to tank. There was no rush to bring anyone back from injuries and MacTavish had a passive forecheck employed even late in games where we were trailing by a single goal. By the time of the Smyth trade, the team had decided they were getting the best draft pick they could...

Yeah, didn't they only win 1 game the rest of that season post Smyth trade? I remember thinking that was rock bottom but oh man, did it ever get worse.
Toby Peterson was also one of MacT's favorites.

Two wins after the Feb 27 trade deadline - one in a shootout. Managed to get the single point in one other game.
Pretty dreadful stretch of hockey, but also highly amusing. I loved when they claimed Lupul was deathly ill so they could keep Nilsson up on emergency recall a couple more nights, only to have photos of Lupul making out at a bar show up, complete with time stamp, the next day.

FWIW, I think Syvret also played in at least one of the Bisaillon games, so maybe Peterson got to play forward (and the point on PP1) there...
