That was some amazing pressure the Oilers put on them.
Gustavsson was in God mode.

Completely outplayed them but got goalied. Seems like we are the opposite of the Canucks.
Whatever. Take the L and spank the Flames tomorrow night. I'd MUCH rather win that one than this one anyway, much as I dislike the wild.

For the amount of talent that we're icing, to walk away from that game with a 50% effort and lose to a team mostly consisting of nobodies... is garbage.
McDavid can't score. He's lost his ability to finish, and he's getting desperate. He's forcing plays that came naturally to him in the past. He hasn't lost his effort, but he's definitely lost a lot of his mojo. He has 21 goals this year. Matthews has 52. That's an insane drop off for last year's Rocket trophy winner.
Effort again is what kills this team though. Sure they got a lot of shots and some great chances, but they can't finish when it counts and they just can't really finish in general. They are super lazy for long stretches (the entire first period of this game), let their foot off the gas and pay for it, almost every time.
This is more like the team that started the year than the one that turned things around.
I hate to say it, but if this organization thinks they have what they need to make a legit Cup run this year... they are going to be sorely disappointed. This team will be lucky to get past the first round.

The Wild are a bunch of jobbers but Pickard sucks more. Tough loss to watch, lots of dominance but no finish. A myriad of defensive lapses because they start forcing things because of frustration, another common theme with this team as well as making a teams goalie seem like a vezina winner.

💯
How many times this season have we heard about how amazing some rando backup goalie played to take a game from the Oil?
This team finishes nearly as well as a eunuch does.

P. Chiarelli math.. T. Hall = A. Larsson, Yak= bag o'pucks (OK he got one right...) K. Russell = $4.1 M+NMC, G. Reinhart= M. Barzal + A. Beauvillier, J. Eberle = R. Spooner,

You just knew the Oilers couldn't allow any shots on goal in the 3rd and they did a pretty good job until halfway through when they finally allowed one. And as it turned out, of course, it was a pathetic weakassed goal.
But as others have said, they need to show up at the start. They spent the last while vigorously patting themselves on the back for playing well in the 3rd periods and beyond, but now that they've come up against teams other than Anaheim, the formula isn't working so well. For the way they played in the first 2 periods, they got what they deserved. Maybe they'll show up at the start next game. Not a very smart team we have here. They need to be kicked in the head several times before they learn their lesson.
