HAHA!! Oil win it in overtime! Sniper Brad Malone on the breakaway - McDavid-like
Campbell looked pretty good from what I saw against what the fLames announcers said was their βA-β team ( as opposed to the Oilers βB or Cβ squad

Oilers vs Flambes ce soir.. should be an increase in intensity this game..
I'd be watching.. not being shown anywhere though.. not even on NHL Center Ice. (which I got from Shaw).. and Oilers TV doesn't show it either... Shaw is useless.. or should I say Rogers.. Roger's Customer Service is non-existent.
I'll be interested in how Savoie and Lavoie go.. could be Savoie's last pre-season game.. he'll be motivated..
The best players in the Penticton tourney IMHO were Savoie, Bourgault, and Ackey..
Savoie especially impressed.. his skating and speed really improved from last year.. his head is up at all times.. very he was the designated puck carrier forward every time he was on the ice.. and he was effective.. Ackey also impressed.. youngest guy out there and he was noticeable.. great skating and agility.. and puck IQ.. he'll be fun to watch.. wouldn't be surprised to see him make TC junior team this Christmas..

Game streaming behind the gifting paywall on the Oilers site. Fortunately also streaming for free on the Flames website. Oilers awful decision to scrape the last few dollars from fans backfires.

Dustin Schwartz...
Can Manny Legace save us? Campbell decided to spend his summer with him while Skinner went all in on the Schwartz.

There were some stinky goals last night. Just Skinnerβs first action of the year though so maybe heβs still shaking the rust off? We can hope anyhow - it did look like Playoff Skinner though.

The highlights were very unpleasant to watch. Skinner and Nurse over and over in the shots perfectly reproducing the playoffs.
The shots that just seem to go right through Skinner. The glove hand off the mark multiple times. I wish I just didn't look to see all this trademark Schwartz stuff.

They did - but theyβve barely scored the entire pre-season. One goal in regulation in that game too.

Broberg working his way solidly into the "so close but still so far" prospect category.
Woody seems completely uninterested in seeing Holloway play 5v5

Take it back. Woody playing Holloway and Lavoie with McDavid. Only Vinnie is out there at the same time and sabotages the play every time the puck comes his way to ruin the shifts.

Yeah Campbell looks like he's just continuing from how he was playing in playoffs. While Skinner did the same.
Campbell will still probably be streaky, but hopefully his streaks last a lot longer than they did last season.
Skinner, all you can do is pray

I do think it's a bit much seeing a bunch of articles about how Campbell is back now. I think it's a little early for that. Hopefully he and Skinner do push each other, and hopefully we get some level of competent goaltending - or goaltending so miserable that the management is forced to do something relatively quickly to fix it.
I fear that we're going to bumble along with one guy or another being just good enough all season - making the GM think that it's not a priority only to have things go horribly horribly wrong in the post-season again when no one can make a save. I hope it doesn't happen, but it's a pretty easy scenario to imagine.

Gleason is looking good.. smart player.. decent wheels.. good pick up by Oiler AHL scouts.. might not clear waivers
Holloway's speed was on display.. can handle the puck at NHL level.. just needs to find the range with his shot..
Campbell 2.0 has been a very pleasant surprise so far.. ππ»
Lavoie's speed has looked sub-NHL.. not sure how he will do on the team.. but they might keep him to avoid waivers..
Bougault is going to be a player.. great shot.. smart.. good fore checker.. you can see Oilers vision for him.. they have had him playing regular PK minutes.. utility player that can play up and down the line up..

Holloway also looked a little panicky in close. Feeling the pressure to score maybe? He's noticeable on the ice regularly though.

I do wonder about the foot speed with Lavoie. I know he scored in the AHL but so did Benson and Marody but couldn't do it in the NHL because they weren't fast enough. The test for Lavoie is the last few games when they starting playing mostly full line ups. I think Lavoie has been OK but I wouldn't say he's stood out.

From the 2 games I was able to watch of Campbell, he looks like he is moving way less. He doesn't seem to be flopping around as much and he looks like he is covering way more of the net. I don't know if he got bigger gear but he looks way bigger in the net.

I'll disagree on the slowness part. Campbell has always been super athletic, but last year his anticipation and angles were all wrong. If anything he was often over-playing and moving his feet too much. It's all in the head with him.
If you meant slow in the head instead of slow in the feet, then we are on the same page

I'll have to stick with my original comment.. I distinctly remember how slow his reaction time was to come across his net after a cross ice pass for a shot.. he's looked better now.. but .. still pre-season..

Campbell reminds me of Smith. Always looks like he's trying hard, even when his sav% is 0.800. When he's making the saves, looks amazing. When he's not, looks terrible to be working that hard to suck :) Players seem inspired by his effort and never quit approach so we always seem to have a shot with him in net still.
When Skinner is off his game though, his second effort on saves just vanishes, you can see a guy that has his confidence in the toilet. Reminds me of Kotsko. When he's on his game, technically pretty solid. When he's off, the team seems to sag along with him because everyone can see he's looking defeated.
Maybe the Oilers are just destined to have Smith's and Kostko's forever now.
