Game over. What can you say. Bad defense, just stupid penalties.
Go win game 3

Just a garbage game. McDavid with another 2 dozen giveaways. Basically the result of every possession he has is a giveaway.
Better wake up quickly

Gongshow
Half the Oilers are too slow, weak and clumsy to compete for pucks.. can't maintain a forecheck and can't get possession to clear a zone..
That was a comedy watching the 5th goal go in.. total spazz drill all around.. inevitable
Its going to be tougher matching up lines next 2 games..
Did anyone see RNH tonight?

Nuge has been invisible for most of the season, so it's not really much of a surprise that he was invisible in this one as well.
McDavid though, holy hell. Happy that he's not injured, but his brain is miles away right now. Just off in nowhere land, skating around with his demons and getting pulverized mentally. The guy is playing awful; just chill the eff out and try to have some fun.
I don't think I've ever seen Connor this nervy and out of it. You'd think he'd understand the playoffs even more so by now, but these last two games have been brutal.

I’ll add that Knob needs to go if we lose this series. He has just coached a horrific game up to now. We won game one in spite of him. We are getting outcoached, and giving up horrific penalties.

All the commentators trying to sell that this is the first time a team has ever tried to swarm McDavid. It's not, better teams have tried and failed. This is a choice by McDavid to skate directly into coverage all night long thinking he can recreate his goal in his rookie year when he skated through 4 Columbus Bluejackets to score. He's trying to pass through ducks players sticks all night as well. He's just totally off his game and has to get it together ASAP.
I thought Bouch had a better game, but with comedic bad luck. Gets a high stick in the face and immediately scored on. clears that rebound on the GWG, but Drai just standing straight up in la-la land in front of him with no idea what's happening, and it goes off his foot directly to the duck player to score. At least a good sign 1 more guy is getitng it together, but we NEED McDavid to do it as well.

Exactly - they keep talking about how great Anaheim is doing at getting sticks on pucks etc and yes they have done a nice job but this is on Mcdavid. I have no idea what he's doing out there and the only thing I can think of is that he looks like a kid trying to show off to his dad. His parents better not be travelling to Anaheim.
Bouchard is fine. His D partner is getting exposed. Not quite to the level of last year where he cost them the stanley cup but unable to keep up defensively. Terrible and unnecessary icing on the gwg to kill the momentum of the comeback.

Difference was special teams, and not getting an extra save or two. Otherwise the Oilers did outplay them.
I hope McDavid is going to be ok.

Yeah I heard about that on the post game (fwiw no idea why I listened) .. the broadcast crew thought it was a donair .. but seeing the photo I think the chicken was supposed to represent a "duck" ? .. anyway it killed the momentum of the players and building after the tying goal at 4-4 .. gave Anaheim a chance to reset

How does that even happen...
Every game I've been to you have to take off your coat, put your keys and change in a tray and pass it around the detectors...
How the fk does one sneak in a full chicken ?

Maybe Stauffer was digging into a Costco chicken in the booth and got so excited he hurled it to center ice? .. naw.. I can't see Bob throwing away a good chicken..

As crappy as the result was last night, I'm actually feeling okay about things this morning. I truly believe the Ducks are playing at their top level, while the Oilers have at best their b-game, with their best player playing his d-game--and still the series is tied 1-1.
If the Oilers can ramp things up a bit in Anaheim and McDavid can get his head on straight (hopefully his ankle is ok), I don't think the Ducks can up their game to match.

.. missed Dickenson (forecheck, faceoffs, size/reach, and most importantly PK)
Expect him back on Friday.. should help out.
The Ducks have a large fast team throughout.. imho key characteristics the Oilers should start acquiring for themselves.. need the extra strength, size/reach, and speed for playoff hockey.. its something they need much more of to compete at the highest levels.. you can see it pay off in the other series as well.

From what I see with McD is yes he's going in 1 on 4 or 5.. but where are his support players? he drives the other team all back and there is zero support filling the hole he creates.. McD needs better wingers.. always has.. he needs more help.. someone to closer match his speed and support his position on the ice.. same as it ever was..

His speed and the attention he draws should be creating space for Hyman and Savoie to get into open spaces and get chances on net... but that line has been totally ineffective through the first two games. So ineffective that the Ducks fourth line looks substantially better.
Rough.
They need to use each other, not just watch Connor try to skate through everyone and have a superhero moment. That's one thing that Mario started to figure out, and became infinitely more dangerous once he did. He had all the talent in the world and could challenge players, but he was far more dangerous when he would pull multiple defenders out of position and find the open player. The game slowed down and Mario became the Mario we remember now.

Sigh.. McDavid can't McDavid, what defence? Stop with the penalties.
To beat this squad it will need a complete team effort. No waiting around for 97 or 29 and tighten up defensively.
It seems that every opposing coach knows that in the playoffs swarm McDavid or Draisaitl and give them no room to move.. it's the entire playoff strategy. The Oilers keep trying the same thing again and again unable to creatively breakdown the plays and give the boys more room. 97 and 29 just pass it to each other it seems.
When they are on their own line? 5on 5 just swarm McDavid as he carries the puck in, turnover, follow McD into the slot, turnover, follow 29 to the top of the circles compress the space, turnover.
Frustrate the oilers, goad them to penalties. Win.
Man alive I've seen this for 3 years man and the strategy still hasn't changed.
Pick up your socks or it's going to be an early exit. Which may not be a bad thing for 97 and 29 in all honesty..
The very definition of insanity is doing the exact same thing expecting different results.
Generally Disappointed.
