Kane is out an additional 6-8 weeks. That puts him at late Feb-early March to return to hockey activities. If you had any doubt about if he's going on LTIR until the end of the season, I think this answers that question. This could open up some significant cap space leading up to the deadline to add some extra bodies, like a partner for Nurse or another top six winger who could play alongside Leon or Connor.

I will admit, the idea of bringing Hall back to play alongside Leon is enticing to me. They had great chemistry the season before Chia lost his mind. However, I'd be shocked if Chicago pulls off a deal with Bowman unless we give them something stupid.

Wow. We are actually playing the game off the ice too now? :)

Now let’s hope we put that LTIR space to good use. I guess we will know if Kane is coming back perfectly timed for game 1 based on our trade deadline moves.

This is great news. I just hope they are timing this right to make sure Kane has time to miraculously return for game 83. All things being equal I'd rather have a healthy Kane than the cap space but of course ideally they can have both!

The second Kane steps on the ice for game 1 of the playoffs, Bettman will fine the Oilers 3 1st round picks for cap circumvention. icon_rolleyes

Looking upcoming UFAs on non playoff teams, the pool is pretty shallow.

On D I don't really see anyone that jumps out at me. A few goalies might be available for cheap for insurance. Maybe Vanecek or Georgiev from SJ, Husso from DET (thought they're still on the bubble). And for forwards, honestly Hall looks like the most intriguing one there. Maybe Granlund or Zucker? Pretty slim pickings for pure rentals.

Maybe there is someone out there with some term left that is available, but I don't see many options to bolster this team in the UFA heap.

Cap circumvention loophole gets closed the very second the Oilers do it, book it.

Everyone else in the league that's been doing it for years... never a problem. icon_lol

.. of course.. its a given..

They might even change the rule retroactively so that the Oilers can't even activate Kane for the playoffs.. NHL Corp. consistently interprets the rules anyway it suits them..

.. and Calgary gets an Oiler 2nd round pick..
