Good defensive play by Sekera on the PK to deny Dr Drai the opportunity. It’s always nice to see ex-Oilers playing with a chip on their shoulder against their former team....

Pitiful shift leading to a GA.
But hey, the 4th line has us covered, getting it right back.

lol, Benning sees the 2nd man coming in and still decides to go skate for his stick in the corner instead of taking him. Thank goodness for Koskinen pulling of a save of the year candidate.

That was really bad, but both Benning and Manning have quite spectacular defensive numbers on the year.

Yeah, Benning has been solid most of the year. He's just a guy where the bad comes in massive short doses.

And in that statement we see the underlying problem with most advanced stats. Not all scoring chances, shots, etc are equal.
Anyone who thinks that Benning and Manning have been "spectacular" is likely to meet stiff objection. Benning has been pretty decent on a majority of nights. He has performed just fine as a 3rd pairing guy. Manning on the other hand looks awful almost every time he is on the ice.
Corsi, fenwick or any of the other "fancy stats" are a great analytical tool but if that is the only number that shows a positive for a player odds are it is an anomaly and not an appropriate indicator.

Benning has been on the ice for 15 GF and 5 GA in 21 games
Manning has been on the ice for 1 GF and 2 GA in 9 games
They don't get scored on, is that fancy enough for you?

1st, to be clear, I wasnt slamming your opinion, just the general use of a single stat to quantify quality of play for a defenceman.
Everything I have read defending any underwhelming D uses one stat. Are the GA numbers against good? Yes, but exactly what I would expect from an average or below average 3rd pairing D that is heavily sheltered on a team that has a decent goal differential number.
How many high danger chances are the giving up per 20 mins played?
How many times have the goalies bailed them out on egregious mistakes?
How often are they starting in the defensive zone?
Which forwards are they playing with?
You used the term spectacular, not me. Do you think they have played spectacular this year? In fact, I will re-phrase as I do think Benning has been ok playing 3rd pairing minutes.
Do you think Manning has been a good player this year?

I don't want to be mean, but McDavid's GF was standing at the back chatting with her arms crossed in every shot of the wives/GF's selling the toques :)

McDavid/Kassian not caring at all about defense on that goal against. Basically our slot was completely free.
McDavid makes up for it setting up Jujhar Hockey :)

As well as he plays in the offensive aspects of his game Connor has some room for improvement in his d zone coverage. That goal didn't need to happen.
