Cooper rode McD and Cellebrini hard 25+ min each

Bennett ended up a huge joke of an add. Literally all he did was take bad penalties.

Armstrong and Cooper will wear this one.. stood pat with the 4 nations roster .. and depended on the top line and Makar to get goals.. almost worked but they couldn't finish

It also didn’t help that Helle made one of the most ridiculous saves I have ever seen with his stick. It was just that kind of game I guess. We had so many chances, and we were the much much better team. But it is what it is. McDavid looked so defeated after the game. I feel for that man

Binnington gave me nightmares all through that final, he just didn't seem to be at it at all. Half the time I was thinking it was Skinner in net, then others Ty Conklin....
What I would say, is that McDavid gave it his all, but certainly in this game that smaller neutral zone looked and felt like it made it easier for the USA to almost trap him and stop him, Mackinnon and Makar walzting through them.
On that note, it was far from perfect obviously, it should have been better, but the arena stood up and didn't let anyone down. No complaints as yet about the ice or anything.

So in the end Binnington didn't end up an issue at all IMO. He still seems to be on his game when they matter, but St Louis these days provides no situations where games matter. He isn't Hellebuyck, but no Canadian goalie is like that right now. Carey Price was the last one. Maybe Jet Greaves can be the next guy :)
Issue was building a team with lots of roster spots given to guys meant to defend leads, but we didn't have enough speed and skill to actually get leads in the elimination games, outside of 30 seconds left in the Finland game. Cooper ended up looking like an oilers coach, depending on 1 line and 1 D pair to do anything. Even had to split up McDavid's line and the Makar pair in the gold medal game trying to get something from other forward lines, but this also handicapped his top line with the Parayko pair.
Really need to stop outsmarting ourselves with these teams.

It's pretty crazy to me that you build an all-star team, have a game where there was VERY little special teams and still end up playing the top 3 forwards 25 minutes and you have defencement with under 10 minutes of game time.
That's a flat out admission of the roster flaws. I think it makes sense to play a lot of the very best players in the world for sure - but the other guys are ALL first line NHL players and all-stars. You should be able to give a breather to the top guys at some points.
I'm curious what the 2010 Finals numbers looked like for TOI. Was Crosby playing that much more than everyone else?
