Need some of those magic Knob adjustments in this series.
LA series was a good warmup for not getting calls, hope the boys are ready for that frustration too.

I think we are better prepared for a series against the Knights than we were 2 years ago. I don't know if we are a better team than then, but I still think we've got better at finding out ways to beat teams.
It wouldn't shock me if this went all the way to game 7, I hope it isn't as white knuckle as this past series, but still fun.
Take me home, country road
to the place where I belong
to Alberta, to see the Oilers
take me home, country road

With this version of the Oilers, I've come to expect a Game 1 loss. In recent years, it's almost like that's the game where they scout the opposition to see what they can learn and then use it against the other team the rest of the series.
In the McDavid era...
2017 - Lost Game 1 to Sharks, Won Series 4-2; Won Game 1 to Ducks, Lost Series 4-3
2020 - Lost Game 1 to Hawks, Lost 3-1
2021 - Lost Game 1 to Jets, Lost 4-0 (with 3 OTLs! )
2022 - Lost Game 1 to Kings, Won 4-3; Lost Game 1 to Flames, Won 4-1; Lost Game 1 to Avs, Lost 4-0
2023 - Lost Game 1 to Kings, Won 4-2; Lost Game 1 to Knights, Lost 4-2;
2024 - Won Game 1 to Kings, Won 4-1, Lost Game 1 to Canucks, Won 4-3; Won Game 1 to Stars, Won 4-2; Lost Game 1 to Panthers, Lost 4-3.
2025 - Lost Game 1 to Kings, Won 4-2.
So, when losing Game 1 in McDavid era the team is... 6-5
When winning Game 1 the record is...2-1
This team really likes to give the opposition a head start. Whether it games, series or whole seasons, this team constantly puts itself behind the 8 ball and then has to battle back. There's no quit in the team, but there's also almost no jump at the beginning of anything.
It's almost like Game 1 doesn't matter.
What happened to all of my messages? lol (I guess it's been awhile) BlueSky: StefBarnes

I really would like the NHL to move on and just starting playing games once the teams are decided and arena availability is known. Sadly, the league moves too slowly for the Oilers to play Saturday and T Mobile is booked Sunday so the series we care about wont start until Monday.. or Tuesday.. or maybe even Wednesday because TNT wants a big kick off for the second round on 'their' night. Would you bet against Wednesday and Saturday for Leafs / Panthers game 1 and 2? I wouldn't.

Truth. Need a miracle Ekholm recovery.
Speaking of which, has it ever been determined what his injury he has? It feels like a groin or core injury that took Kane out last year, and Nurse the season prior to that.

I have never seen any specifics. Oilers have kept the info locked down, which is probably a good thing. Just listed as LBI since he was last out.
The bummer Gregor tweet that Adam was mentioning:
Jason Gregor @JasonGregor
Spoke with Ekholm in elevator. He had never missed a playoff game until this series. “Very hard watching. You get so nervous,” he said.
Won’t play in second round.
Guess Knob said this as well, Matheson just tweeted this:
Jim Matheson @jimmathesonnhl
Ekholm isn’t playing in round 2 according to Knoblauch

Schedule for the 1st round runs until Saturday. I think last year there was one series where there was a little overlap between a Game 7 and a Game 1 on the same day but that's a huge rarity for the NHL. I can't seen them starting Round 2 before Sunday at earliest.
It does seem funny that they're not announcing a bunch of games already with three of four series settled. They could really help fans out by just getting the dates set ASAP. Would make sense to go Eastern games Sunday and the Western games Monday...but as you say, the NHL loves to waste days and drag things out well in to June.
I have tickets to Game 3 and my strong preference would be for a Friday or Saturday game. Sunday would be okay, Monday would be awful as I'm out of town. So selfishly, I want to just get this thing started!
EDIT: Looks like Sunday May 11th is booked at Rogers already (Rock Stars on ice featuring Elvis Stojko)...so hopefully it is Fri or Sat!!!

I despise the Knights like no other team. The team manipulates the Cap without any league backlash, zero loyalty to the players and the league and officials seem to fawn over them. Admittedly I am jealous of the first three points, but what really grinds my gears is the fan base.
80% of their fan base are either kids or bandwagon jumpers, and the rest are new to hockey, no clue about the game and have never experienced losing. They just know winning and have this air of arrogance that makes them comparable to a Yankees fan.
I just want Vegas to lose at all costs. The Oilers will need to continue to be plucky and opportunistic. Just win baby!

Bruce Cassidy is a seasoned top coach.
We won this last series in part because of Hiller’s failures. We won’t see that here. Oilers will have to up their game and Knoblauch will need to be in top form.

I'm already clenching. It's going to be a tight tight series, or not or a blowout or not. I don't know anything.
The very definition of insanity is doing the exact same thing expecting different results.
Generally Disappointed.

We cannot exchange rushes with Vegas. Shot suppression and boring hockey is the only recipe. Pucks need to be cleared out of our end as quickly as possible. See game 5 vs LA and that is the recipe to win every series.
Still love me a game of chaos, but only once a series.

Their last pre-game skate lineup was:
Karlsson-Eichel-Stone
Saad-Hertl-Olofsson
Barbashev-Roy-Smith
Pearson-Howden-Kolesar
McNabb-Theodore
Hague-Pietrangelo
Hanifin-Whitecloud
Hill
Minny actually got the better of them 5v5 in the series. Vegas tipped things their way with special teams. Vegas 4 GF on the PP. Minny 3GF 2GA on their PP, oops.
https://www.naturalstattrick.com/game.php?season=20242025&am p;game=30170
Game 1, vegas wins by 1 goal (excluding ENG at 19:59), had 1 PPG (Minny 0 PPG)
Game 4, vegas wins by 1 goal, had 2 PPG (Minny 0 ppg)
Game 5, Vegas wins by 1 goal, had 1 SHG (Minny 1 ppg)
Game 6, Vegas wins by 1 goal, had 1 PPG (Minny 0 ppg)
No surprise, Vegas had 18 PP opportunities, and Minny tied with us for least ops in the 1st round with 13.

Yikes, that is a strong defense. Hanifin on third pair…
Hope Pietrangelo is slowing down.
