If Oilers go deep into the playoffs next two years.. its really like swapping 1st rounders with Philly.. both will be late 1st round..

I'm not sure I understand this trade into the 1st round. We just lost a trade chip for whoever this late first rounder is. I hope I eat my words and he is good, but late 1st rounders are nit sure things. I suppose he himself becomes a trade chip though like Reid Schaffer was.

If he does turn into something it would be probably be 3-5 years which at that point even why? We are in win now mode. Such a puzzling move…

Rumour is the Oilers had a lot of scouts scouring the OHL this past year.. O'Reilly made it to the Memorial Cup final.. ranked #24 by Central Scouting for NA skaters.. The Oiler scouting staff have given the OHL its top scouting priority ..
they picked up Beau Ackey last year from the OHL.. late second.. great skater.. he'll be a good D-man..

This would be my worry.
Oilers talking a lot with Hunter who's telling them he loves this kid. He certainly isn't a guy who's dropped magically to #32. Under most rankings he's a bit of a reach there, so surprising to deal a pick that's best case the same position unless you're getting a guy who is really good odds to out-perform his draft position.
Jackson saying that the Oilers had him ranked way above #32 but is that just more "smartest guys in the room" nonsense? I guess time will tell.
With any luck, both of the next two drafts we're still right at the tail end anyhow, so the difference might be small in the end.

Was wondering why it's a lefty in the pic. Think that is Sam Dickinson :)
Oilers must really like this kid. Did Coffey mentor him?
See people saying he was buried down the lineup in London behind the older guys with the team expectation of winning it all. Almost got the memorial cup, lost in the final. Next year he should have a big boost to offensive opportunity.

I honestly like the move! Our prospect depth ain’t that deep and this gives us a stud at Center. We are still gonna (hopefully) be a very solid team in 3 years when he can make an impact and help with more secondary scoring. Sounds like he was beneath a stacked team so his scoring should only be higher this coming season.
Plus our last trade of a first only got us Henrique and Carrick which at the time not everyone was happy with thinking we overpaid and now it’s a chance we don’t keep either. Carrick didn’t cut it, Ryan took the spot and Henrique may want too much $$$ and to be back on west coast by his family.
Let’s let this kid cook, I like the selection.

Some more background on the kid.. he was playing defence up until 2 years ago.. switched to forward in Ontario Junior-B year before.. then played his first year in the OHL for London this past year.. he's still learning the position.. might be a lot of untapped potential in there.. that's where you get the late pick gems.. find the unpolished diamonds.. in addition to being an OHL rookie, he's played on a stacked Knight's team.. almost all his points were at even.. next year will be the tell..
Had 0.82 pts/game mostly at 5v5 for the season .. and 12 pts in 16 playoff games.. as an OHL rookie.
Both he and the Finnish goalie Cousin Vinni are probably the best bets of this draft class..
Some of the overagers the Oilers drafted might even be able to come to the AHL or ECHK next year.. supplement their rosters down there.. and get a jump on the player's pro-development.

We botched the inside info we got on Wyatt Johnston. Might be trying to make up with the inside take on O'Reilly from our soon to be GM. Drafted another London Knight late as well.
