Interesting. The gamble clearly is that we'll be back in 31 or 32 spot again in the next two years. Maybe a time-value-of-players pick too...a guy drafted today is closer than the guy a year or two from now.

W T F would you trade a perfectly good first round pick from 25/26 when you could have used it to get something at next year deadline. This is dumb lol. We are in win now mode. If we are lucky we might see him 3-5 years lol?

From Frank:
Conditions on #Flyers/#Oilers pick swap:
Edmonton will convey its 2025 first-round pick to Philadelphia unless it is in the Top 12, in which case it will slide to 2026.
In other words: it’s a Top 12 protected pick. PHI has three first-rounders next season.
Which I think the Oilers wouldn’t be able to trade the 26’ pick at the deadline unless there mathematical not able to reach 12 place. If that is true then Jeff Jackson may have hamstrung the future GM from using the 26 pick to try and and help the team at the deadline lol. I hope I am wrong.

They must have had O'Reilly much higher in our scout rankings, and think we were getting a bit of a steal.
He was buried down the depth chart in London, so, if our scouts are right, his offensive numbers should have a big boost next season. That makes him, at minimum, a good trade chip still if we need to trade for a rental.
Risk paying off all depends if our scouts are right.

So since the pick is protected, this also means we can’t trade our 2026 first rounder either.
What kind of business is this?? We are in a go for it year and don’t have our next two first round picks.
