Good news - Foegele doesn't make enough to qualify for a late summer buyout - only Barrie does.

Besides, we all know that Holland would prefer to trade Puljujarvi for magic beans, promote Foegele to the third line and sign a "true fourth liner" who adds grit and sandpaper and work ethic.

Barrie has to be the obvious choice here!

Is it possible to buy out Barrie and then re-sign him to a cheaper deal?

If we buy him out, it’s a $1.375 million cap hit for 4 years according to Cap Friendly. Let’s say we sign him for a $1 million AAV for four years, his cap hit in total would be $2.375 million for 4 years.

Total pie in the sky scenario, but figured I would throw it out there. It would take a commitment from Barrie not to take more money from another team.

I think we would have to trade him somewhere else for hat team to technically buy him out, then we could re-sign him because we weren't the ones buying him out. Washington did a similar thing with Brooks Orpik in 2018. They traded him to the Avalanche who bought out his $5.5M cap hit, then he re-signed with the Capitals for $1M and the Avs absorbed the buyout penalty. However it also cost the Capitals Grubauer to get it done (and they did get a 2nd rounder in return). The cap also went up $4.5M that summer, so the definitely helped make something like that a possibility.

Thanks for the clarification, now we just need to find a team to help us out! 😀

Just say no to buyouts all together. How helpful would the 3.4M sitting there paying out for past bad mistakes be right now?

Sekera's 1.5M and the 750k Lucic retention come off the books next year, and then it's just the James Neal buy out (1.9M) for two more seasons after that.

I would love to see a creative trade with picks/prospects going to a cap floor team and someone takes Neal's money away from us. Imagine 1.9M freed up this year and then you have an extra 4.15M next year?

Dare to dream.

I don't think the NHL lets you trade away buyout penalties after they happen. We are stuck with Neal's hit for the duration. Better than being stuck with Lucic the last few years though.

Honestly though, what's the difference between a team trading for Seabrook's contract vs a bought out one? Like AZ wouldn't be all over the Garth Snow deal if it could get them to the cap floor.

You can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you just might find, you can get a lottery pick.

you can't sign a contract with a team that buys you out for a period of 1 year.
Thus the trade-buyout-sign route would have to be done. give whatever team our 4,5,6 whatever picks for the next 3 years. we suck at drafting anyway

Man did we miss the boat on Seattle. They signed busted up Justin Schultz to try to fix their RHD position. Probably would have loved to get Barrie, but now they just have to hope Schultz has some life left in him.

I wouldn't do the buyout. Gotta stick it out I guess. Try to move him next summer.

Barrie has to be the obvious choice here!

Is it possible to buy out Barrie and then re-sign him to a cheaper deal?

Barrie for Schultz straight up! Our boy Justin can finally come home!

You can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you just might find, you can get a lottery pick.

Hey I think we all can admit he's no Taylor Hall but Jultz is a two-time Cup winner. #legit

So. when does Foegele get traded to the Sabres for a 2023 6th round pick?

No Cups

No buyouts will happen Barrie is on this team, he's been a good fit and yes at that price point. I seem to remember that RHD don't grow on trees something something.

I think the plan is Foegele and JP. Trade Foegele so some spare parts and JP for a hope and a prayer. Although I think moving JP is a mistake until midway through the season, moving Foegele makes the best sense to free up some cash.

We can also send Shore to the Condors and also look at Janmark too.

Ridding themselves of Foegele is the best strategy unfortunately.

We need some special cap friendly contracts here, we can't keep Draisaitl on this team come renewal if the cap doesn't go up significantly and the Oilers spend to it.

The very definition of insanity is doing the exact same thing expecting different results.

Generally Disappointed.
