Just need Washington to finish off Vegas to clinch a playoff spot I believe.

Big win. Dominant.

Good outing from Smith, that 2nd goal was a bit hinky, but whatever, his puck handling loomed pretty large in this one. Hard to believe this the same guy who I was hoping played his last game for the Oilers what...15 or 20 games ago? Pfft.

Nurse should get a star for putting that puke Benn into the Oilers bench. Loved it. Interesting how Seguin didnt get on the ice for Dallas late with the goalie pulled. Dont think I saw Radulov out there either.

PK is delivering for this team lately.

I think another win clinches.

Vegas loses and they are gone as a threat to the Oilers but Vancouver would still have a very slim shot (1 Oiler win or Vancouver loss) if my math is correct.

You're right, Canucks move ahead of Knights with a Vegas loss tonight.

When did Seguin and Benn become so useless? Dallas is basically Roberston/Hintz/Pavelski and nothing else.

Good game. Smith shocking the hockey world! We really did just need to get him going eh? icon_wink

Everyone already knows were getting Mike Babcock for next year. What does this Woodcroft know of winning? Doesn't even have any cups. Bum

My second I couldn’t agree more. Was reading on The Athletic, and since Dad Bod came aboard McDavid and Draisaitl are having their best 5v5 stretches of their careers. Overall this is the best 11 5v5, sometimes 12 forward group in decades.

McDavid did McDavidian things tonight. He’s not going to lose the scoring race. Nice to see him pot the empty netter. That and big Jess with goal. Good times at the right time.

That was solid, I was intending to watch this live, but that failed. Just caught up as I'd recorded it. I may have caught up with the score before hand, but that was as solid a game as you would like at this time of year. Get that sort of tending in the play-offs and anything is possible.

Win feels great...but wish Oilers could've at least gotten one win in Dallas since I paid an arm & leg to watch them lose both times in person :/

Stars are in an interesting conundrum...I'd rather not see them make the playoffs at all but would feel safer going up against them opposed to a giant sleeper like Vancouver or a Vegas team that could suddenly activate all their LTIRs for the playoffs....

Stars are basically a 1st line and some solid D pairings with no scoring depth or goaltending.

Regarding Seguin and Benn,
Seguin has 5 more years of 9.5 mil
Benn has 3 more years of 9.5 mil

Robertson is an RFA this offseason
Hintz is an RFA in 2023 offseason

I think Seguin is likely kept because he's going into an offseason where his nagging groin will have even more time to recover as it's much harder to move his contract with 5 seasons left. He's developed into a much better two way player who's become a decent penalty killer that's super important in the faceoff circle.

Benn is likely a goner this offseason as it's rumored the Stars might retain anywhere from 3-4 mil of his salary annually for the remainder of his contract. Still a valuable two way player who's lost a step along with some of that skill....just not worth 9.5 mil per yr for a guy struggling to put up 50 points toiling between the 2nd/3rd line. You can find "intangibles" and "leadership" at a much cheaper cost.

^Most Stars fans aren't smart enough to realize that but ownership/management have really soured on the guy for reasons mentioned above.

No one knows until they're tested as one. They might be, but they might be floating along beating the mid-card and tomato cans of the league.

I still don't trust the defense. Or goaltending. Or depth.

Can't they take the wildcard from Dallas still tho? like small chance?

Yes, either Vancouver or Vegas could catch either the wildcard or Los Angeles.

I think the probability is relatively low though. Four points in 5 games is a big hill to climb in the Bonus Point era.

I think tomorrow is a real good measuring stick, if we can hang with Colorado we can hang with pretty well everyone. And I think any path out of the west this year will go through them.

I think we've already proven that we can not only hang with Colorado, but also outplay them haven't we? Really surprised to see them lose to the Crack heads the other night though. Games have been super tight all season long between us, and if it wasn't for their goalie standing on his head last game the head to head would be even wouldn't it?
