It is nice to see Smith with the SO after another solid game between the pipes. Good timing on hitting his stride, and just maybe that was his plan all along- crazy like a fox!!!

...call me crazy, but all of a sudden OIL goaltending could be a difference maker in the playoffs.
...this time, it's for real (isn't it?).

Don’t for a second begin to believe in this tandem. They’ll just let you down the second you start. Low expectations is key!
Meanwhile, our magic number is down to 5 points. Can be 4 if the Blue Jackets do us a favour versus the Kings tonight…

I agree Adam. Still seen some stupid out of Smith tonight. Came very close to giving away a goal early on a horrible rebound. Got in the way of the defensemen behind the net. Also skated out for a puck Vegas iced on a delayed penalty against Edmonton so the resulting face-off was in his own end instead of centre. I have no faith in this guys ability to be consistent. His screw ups just aren't costing them YET. It seems like he's on a different planet with decision making at times.

While technically right now it’s 5, that game against Dallas on weds flat out bones both Vegas and Vancouver- no matter the outcome.
So the magic number is actually 4
In fairness to Hall, I've wanted to throw a waterbottle at Eakins all season.

How? If we were only to win 2 games, and the Knights were to sweep their remaining games, then they finish with 99 and we finish with 98. It is conceivable that if we only go 2-4 or worse, that Dallas, Nashville and Los Angeles could all pass us too. We're probably in with as little as a 97 points, but if gets close in a hurry.
There's a Dallas/Vegas game yet, so one of them will lose 1-2 points there but if Vegas wins that, Dallas still has enough other games remaining to pass us if we really falter.
Vancouver is already virtually toast. I think Winnipeg becomes officially out in the next day or so.
Worst schedule to finish the year is Nashville - Calgary, Tampa, Minny, Calgary, Colorado, Arizona. They could easily lose 4-5 of those games assuming teams don't rest their good players.
I think the Oilers are virtually in. Next most likely is the Stars, and then it's a three-sided coin toss between Vegas, LA and Nashville.

I think all of us can relate. I know I had been using Smith as a verbal toilet earlier in the season. Maybe Steelcroft’s style of coaching was all that was needed to get him back to his form of old…

Absolutely massive!!!! That was great! And another great performance by Smith.
As for the officiating - that call on Hyman was a joke. And then once he gets out, they interfere with him again and take him down. All good say the refs.
So much interference/hooking let go. I have a feeling if we make the playoffs I will end up rage drinking every game night.

Hot friggin damn that was a nice performance and a huge win.
Koodos to Mike Smith, the awkwardness seems to be gone, he's a pretty fresh goaltender going into the playoffs, and if Koskinen can get it back after Minnesota, good goaltending opens some possibilities. Confidence can be a big thing, and the way this team was able to shed that abysmal outing against the Wild is impressive.
No points for Connor or Leon and still a pretty dominant win particularly in taking over the 3rd period. Looks good against the VGK and Eichel, Stone, Marchessault, etc.

I only caught the broadcast of the 3rd, but that was as good a period as I've seen.
Don't want Vegas in the post-season.
97.

So Cody Ceci - is this guy finally living up to his draft position 10 years later? He seems to have settled Nurse down a bit. He does not look the least bit out of place on the top pair. Already a career high in points with with 6 games to go and he seems to be heating up.
If this is what we can expect the next few years, I will happily eat heaps of crow on this signing.

Few pantsless thoughts after getting this one in on the PVR;
Foegele quietly having a little heater here. He’s had a pretty darn productive season in a bottom 6 role this season. Think tonight gave him 12 on the year? I’ll take a double digit scorer in the bottom 6 every season.
Kassian praised for the assist on the KRuss goal from certain media members… if that was Puljujarvi making that play they would have been burying him for not shooting on the open net.
Smith wont keep this play up, he’ll fall back to average but what many have said for awhile is this Oilers team just needs average goaltending. I think Smith is the starter, barring injury, here on out. We’ll see som Koskinen sprinkled through these last six but it’s Smith’s crease come playoff time.
11-7 seems to be the recipe for this team.
