Can’t say I blame them. He was the first #1 overall pick in franchise history and a great guy in the room for all of his time here. Weird they’re doing it when the Rangers are in town though.
You can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you just might find, you can get a lottery pick.

Not all that odd when you remember he's Rangers alumni too.
A guy who if you turned into a gumbo is a wild mix of sports podcaster/TV reporter and sports writer.

Feel like his time with the Sabres was his most iconic. I don't think anyone expected that team to end up with #1 again to start that season.

In the Hall of Losers, Hall's in on the first ballot.
He's now contributed to 6 of the last 11 1st overall picks (well, technically 7 of 12). That's taking being a loser to an art form.
He's the biggest loser that ever loser'd.

I think we all agree that #4 had a terrible effect on the Oilers and any potential positive impact he might have had early on is more than outweighed by his terrible performance in later years.

No no, Kevin Lowe “bleeds blue and orange” or something like that.
Ya know what. If Kevin Lowe really loved this team he would have done what was best for it, instead of repeatedly getting jobs for his old teammates and sewering it.
Clean house or bust

Do we think Kevin Lowe has actually allowed himself to think that he and his friends were the problem? Or has he only stepped back because he's tired of all the people at lower levels staining his record with their suckage, and their not living up to the expectations that Lowe and Friends should be at no fault for expecting of them?

I hated half the guys who wore #4 for the Oilers. I still haven’t forgiven him for trading Smyth on the day we retired Messier’s jersey.
This will be first modern retirement jersey ceremony I’ll miss. I’m more impressed with the Garth Brooks banner.

Selling out 9 shows is no small feat.

Might even say it's a bigger deal.
One quote that sticks with me which showed me his ilk as a manager of this team, "We have two types of fans: we have paying customers and we have people that watch the game that we still care about," ... "But certainly the people that go to the games and support we spend a lot of time talking to them, delivering our message."
Presiding over failure after failure after failure and still remaining with the team even promoted and he still has a job.
Yeah I won't be there either, in saying all that as a player he was a good one.
The very definition of insanity is doing the exact same thing expecting different results.
Generally Disappointed.

Even though this is the Taylor Hall retirement thread, it's important to remember that Kevin Lowe:
- Couldn't skate backwards
- Could only pass on his forehand
- thought he was a goalie until mid-1984
- once used a tennis racket for two periods without realizing it
- stole credit for Gretzky's first goal in Oiler franchise history, a tally that ended up being his only career goal as a player
Personally I think he belongs in the Hall of Fame, but only as an un-builder.
