Maybe someone can do a better summary. Only caught a part just now where he is downplaying the cap space he has. Says it's not actually much because he has players to sign. lol...

Stuaffer and all media stooges were selling the magic cap space we would have this summer as the reason we could excuse not trying to improve the roster this year...

Well he said he wants to re-sign Mike Smith...

Better replace Koskinen with somebody who can start.

More or less said he's not interested in trading the Holloway's and Broberg's for short term gain.

Rishaug asked straight up if Holland will sell some of the future to fix this team. Holland completely clammed up and started a rant about drafting and developing.

ok, so don't expect any crafty moves from this guy. He's depending on draft home runs to fix this mess.

I hate, hate, hate the Oilers management's need to always try to temper expectations. It's a constant exercise for the last 10 years. They are so afraid that the fans might actually expect a contender and that it'll get held against them if they aren't capable of providing one.

It's of course a self-fulfilling prophecy. No expectations of success leads to no success.

From my perspective, I am not interested in the Oilers dumping any of their high end prospects just to bring in a guy who is a marginal upgrade from what they have for 1 year. I am totally fine to trade off high end prospects if they can bring in a clear upgrade on what they have and it will be here for multiple years.

Yeah for a 65 year old he is sounding more senile than his age.

Has said Daniel Nugent-Hopkins (mixing up with the Athletic reporter Daniel Nugent-Bowman) at least twice this conference.

He's stammering like a guy that is worried about getting fired. Not saying that is the situation, but he sounds a bit panicked.

Needs to shorten his answers.

Ha ha ha ha ha...he said Winnipeg is a really good hockey program and he hopes the Oilers can grow to be a good hockey program like that.

That's the bar he's setting for himself here today...evolving in to the Winnipeg @#$%ing Jets.

In summation:

- Established players just don't get traded in this league.
- Can't go out and get one good piece. Just doesn't happen.
- Mike Smith and Ken gonna meet in the Okanagan
- He once acquired Chris Chelios when going for the 3peat. He's done it.
- He's lived it.
- Losing this way was a good thing.
- Doesn't happen that way.
- Stability
- Daniel Nugent-Hopkins
- He's seen everything.
- Doesn't have as much cap space as we were sold.
- Detroit got Dominik Hasek once.
- Stick with it.
- He's done it.

Sounds like he is getting ready for a first round loss to Seattle next year.

Sounds more like he is already trying to explain away the Oil missing the playoffs entirely next year. If he stands pat with the current roster, that is likely what will happen.

Oilers saving grace is that they play in the Pacific with Arizona, Vancouver, Calgary, Los Angeles, San Jose, Anaheim and Seattle. They are one of only two teams in the division to make the playoffs this year.

It's truly horrible, and you don't have to be very good to stroll through it.

This did not inspire a lot of confidence.

The 10min from about 36:30 on where Rishaug asks him if he needs to be more aggressive in potentially moving some futures to help the team now is just rambling nonsense. Talking about there are no guarantees, and that it's hard to win the Cup. Did anyone here know that you go from the regular season to 16 teams in the playoffs, to 8, to 4, to 2, to 1? It's hard. Also, he did it once in Detroit when he traded for Chris Chelios and it didn't work out so confused2

He also mentioned, a couple of times, that you can't just bring in one player and then expect to win the Cup. I don't think anybody that follows the Oilers thinks that's realistic or is suggesting that he can do that.

Good news though is that he's been at this for 24 years and knows a thing or two about winning...sorry, wrong press conference. He's been at this for 24 years and been to the Finals 6 times and won 4 Cups, so he's lived all that.

Oilers Goal Differential
17/18: 234 GF / 263 GA (-29)
18/19: 232 GF / 274 GA (-42)
19/20 (82 game pace): 257 GF / 254 GA (+3) in 64 games
2021 (82 game pace):269 GF / 235 GA (+34) after 38 games

I am sure I will be crucified because I am not going sky is falling immediately but I didn't come away from that presser if a good or bad feeling. Lots of wait and see what happens for me before I decide all is lost or the Oilers are better. Holland's answers are always long winded which is probably a bad thing but I find generally he says mostly what we all ready know and doesn't give a lot of valuable information.

I didn't expect him to say much, and not disappointed.
What he did say though is he'll look at buyout options, so if he dips into that idea, then it'd mean he'll be using the cap savings on something.. he's under selling, not a bad plan at this point.

He was pretty quick to say yes to buy outs so I have too assume he already got the paperwork almost filled out. My guess is Neal or Koskinen.

Zero urgency from Ken Holland. Given multiple opportunities to talk about this team being a contender and what he needs to do - he fidgeted and rambled and said nothing.

His "I won four Cups" is pretty hollow comfort considering that the last one was 2008 and the rest are pre-salary cap days.

When he's talking about comparing this to the 1993 Red Wings, I fear that he thinks we're four years away. That's awful, just awful.

He said specifically "I'm not going to say we're going to win the Stanley Cup". What the hell is the point if you can't say that?

He talks about a 6-month, 1 year, 3 year, 7 year plan...and gives no evidence there actually is one.

He wants to make the playoffs every year. That's a low bar, Ken, given what we have here.

Did he mention he's done it before?

Were you expecting him to name names of who he's going to trade for and sign other than talk about a few of his teams free agents?

What the hell did I watch? A slow motion train wreck? He seemed completely unprepared.

The very definition of insanity is doing the exact same thing expecting different results.

Generally Disappointed.

People hated it when the rhetoric was the other way as well. I think the proof is in the pudding in terms of what gets done. Expectations and whether they're played up or downplayed don't matter, if the team fails in the playoffs or to make it to the playoffs they get roasted anyway. I've never understood why rhetoric matters when it comes to the Oilers. We've see both sides of it and when you're still a loser it doesn't matter. Why the hell should Holland say anything other than that he will improve his club, given opportunities that make sense?

I didn't expect him to say much, and not disappointed.
What he did say though is he'll look at buyout options, so if he dips into that idea, then it'd mean he'll be using the cap savings on something.. he's under selling, not a bad plan at this point.

I don't get the outrage, any rhetoric in this presser is meaningless anyway. What do we want, his detailed strategy, who he's going to pursue, talk to, etc, etc? Roast him when he does something stupid or doesn't do anything, I say. This today is pretty needless.

I think the answer for some is yes, he should have sat there and told exactly his plans. He should have told us what he plans on offering any Oilers free agent. He should have listed off all the Oilers free agents he is going to let got. He should have ripped into the guys he thought sucked. He should have mentioned by name even if it's considered tampering to name off every free agent you plan on offering a contract too. He should have listed off every player on the Oilers roster he wants to buy out or trade. He should have listed off every prospect they have and tell us if he thinks they suck and wants to dump them or who he thinks is good. He should have mentioned who he plans on trying to trade for from other teams. Tampering be damned.

This would have showed everyone just how urgent he was to win.

He was pretty quick to say yes to buy outs so I have too assume he already got the paperwork almost filled out. My guess is Neal or Koskinen.

Reinstate the Sheldon Souray strategy....if only.

double fu to people insulting Bear with racist comments.

Not only is it ridiculous and disgusting, but it's also completely distracted from that hour of idiotic bumbling by our GM. Holland just gets to do that crap and go home with barely a word in the media.

Absolutely disgusting. It is, however, insulting that some people (person?) on here is implying racism because some don't think Bear is all that. That is utter BS.

The reason is we suck at getting vaccines. Every person that wants a vaccine in the USA could have got 2 doses weeks ago. Governing becomes a lot easier when every person that is worried about getting COVID has had ample opportunity to immunize themselves. And I guess having amply staffed private healthcare makes things a lot easier too.
