Oilers are done. Ehlers is back and the team couldn't beat the Jets without Dubois and him. Good luck beating them now.

This Oilers team is still mega-flawed; how is it possible that the this series is playing out even worse than the Chicago series so far? And how is it possible that this team is regressing in each of the post-season (including the Chicago play-in) since McDavid's first appearance in the playoffs in 2017?

They were dangerous in 2017 with basically kid-mode McDavid and Draisaitl, could only put up a faint fight against Chicago and are sputtering to an extreme degree against Winnipeg, with man-versions of the our stars. What is going on here?

I mean. I’m trying not to agree... I’m trying very hard. But. I just. What in the heck.

I don’t trust McLeod to be on the ice in a 0-0 tied game in the 3rd period... let’s put him between Nuge and Kass next game as our second line!

And that fourth line?? They’re going to get bodied

I guess it's not much different than what we're used to. McDrai or bust! And even if McDrai play great and do score, maybe the bottom 9 busts us anyways.

It’s always the same story. Bad bottom six, worrisome defense, and somehow Gen X Mike Smith is our ride or die.

Still, the Jets won 2 by becoming a defensively suffocating team. Does Ehlers make them better at that or just make them worse at doing what the Oilers do best? These guys aren’t the 85 Oilers. Hell, they aren’t even the 85 Jets.

Did we upgrade from bad bottom 6 to bad bottom 9 this year? If we're so out of ideas we're tossing a rookie that has not really been able to do much as our 2nd line C...I think this may be some new ground being broken.

Maybe Bouchard can play wing? He’s got a decent shot. Is there a way to make the 2nd line look visually better if they’re running McDrai?

McDavid is going to play 32 minutes tonight.

What's the alternative? Risking a 3-0 deficit on a bet that someone like Archibald scores 2? If they're going down, they're going down with the big dogs barking.

A guy with zero NHL goals and a guy with with 4 goals in the last 18 months isn't a great recipe for Top-6 offense.

This the the kind of lineup you ice if you want to get swept in the series.

If McDavid plays 32 minutes, I’d put Drai at 38 with Pk and all.

Would anyone be surprised if this actually happens?

What's the alternative? Risking a 3-0 deficit on a bet that someone like Archibald scores 2? If they're going down, they're going down with the big dogs barking.

Haaaaaas gets 6 mins tops. Connor and Leon are double shifted as the C between Ennis and Yamo early and often. That’s gotta be the gameplan with that bottom line

I agree, but I think Chiasson should be the second pp net front guy. Oil are sitting experienced players who have stifled the Jets to try and up the speed. If the game opens up that gives the Oilers an advantage, but if the reffing continues to be nonexistent I think the Jets exploit the defensive weaknesses of the blender.

Actually Bouchard at wing would be an upgrade on some, can skate, laser shot, smart, size.. oh did I mention he can skate?.. like San Jose with Burns!

I thought there might be a couple of changes, but Tips going all in. icon_eek
Might work having Yamo out against a weaker Wpg line, he was getting eliminated on the 2nd.
Interesting Barrie is down to 3rd D pair..
Its a starting point.. Tip can change it up anytime he wants. With Neal and Chaisson out they're quicker.. but smaller, although if you're slow, size isn't able to really contribute, so might be a wash.

Win and he's Scotty Bowman, lose and he's D. Eakins dumber cousin.

Worse ref in the NHL, and he makes it to the final 2 series in the North? Guess Canada got all the 3rd stringer refs.
The other series down south, and even the Leaf/Hab game, are starting to call more penalties, a lot of other coaches criticizing the refs in press interviews, no fines from the NHL, NHL listening? All the Oil need are a few PP's and it tilts the table.

Not a bad idea rotating the 4th forward on the PP, McD, LD, RNH can stay out for the full PP, but JP runs out of gas at the end, throwing in KY could work, another guy that can stick handle, changes the PP look.. moves guys around, forces Wpg to change their PK scheme, and hopefully miss assignments.. GOAL!

I think the NHL assigns Joanette for Oil games just to show them the futility of it all.

Pedal to the metal down the Musty road for an Oil win!

This is what I have been harping on all along. Can the playoffs be a place to win with heavy, crash and bang hockey? Yep
If you dont have the horses and get sucked into that kind of game it is a gameplan for a loss 10 out of 10 times.

The Oilers arent built that way and the guys they do have with size are not effective at that kind of game. They have a couple smaller guys like Archi and Yamo that have the desire but not much size to grind down the other team.
The Oilers are built on speed and out gunning the other team. For better or worse, that is the team they are and the style that will give them a chance to win.

Don’t be a quitter.

This Jets team is beatable. All we did all year was beat them. With and without Ehlers. With and without Dubois. With and without Hellebuyck. It’s just not a scary lineup and as flawed as the Oilers roster may be, they can still beat mediocre teams.

They still have some guys with size and speed, which could crash and bang, if they felt inspired. Of course you have to be smart about it, don't chase hits, but if you're forechecking a D-man, instead of flying by, finish the check, you're already there, hit and release, take him out of the play, too many times an Oiler flys by, and the the other guy joins the rush the other way, sometimes getting ahead of him.
IMO the Oil aren't really that fast a team on average, besides the elite speed players at the top end, the rest are average (and some unfortunately below) through the rest of the lineup, especially when compared the the rest of the playoff teams.

I would, and no way I'd want to see either of those totals. Drai doesn't have 38 min in 60. Its not meant to offend, he's great but it's going to drop off significantly after 25, especially if he's chasing around with Connor on the 1st line. No one on the roster has the legs and the lungs to remain effective in parallel with McDavid. I'd rather see 97 doubled occasionally, but cant get carried away with LD minutes. If Leon gets up around 30 minutes of 60 his legs aren't going to be moving much. Hard to say if we're going to see much pp/pk tonight. If the game is called by hockey rules, it's good for the Oilers, I would think.

I think tonight we're counting on early and constant push, Wpg breaking down in their defensive blanket, and getting up early in this game. Everything has aligned for Wpg so far, Edm has played well at points but has more obviously. Get up early and don't let them hang around.

I think that's the play, LD is a big body, he uses more power, McD's skating is so efficient he can go and go.. injecting McD on various lines, you can utilize your best resource to the max., keep Wpg off balance, and keep LD at his best while he's on the ice, especially if LD's taking draws on PK.

We done.

Don’t be a quitter.

This Jets team is beatable. All we did all year was beat them. With and without Ehlers. With and without Dubois. With and without Hellebuyck. It’s just not a scary lineup and as flawed as the Oilers roster may be, they can still beat mediocre teams.

We win tonight and write the ship.

I don't feel about this team at all. Would love for them to prove me wrong.

The ship. There, I just wrote it.

Isn’t it right the ship? With Adam struggling with grammar, our goose is really cooked.

Amazing. I was trying to right the ship with my writing!

This interaction is a good side-story for this playoffs :)

If only the Sens squeaked in after a play in round. Then we’d have better fortunes

We would still find a way to lose.

I still think the Jets are mediocre. The Oilers have out-played them the bulk of the three games so far, but we've been out-goaltended and they have some luck on their side.

You know, I actually agree with this. They have dictated the majority of games. Slow starts, no bounces and Hellebuyck were the story of games 1-2. Just couldn’t solve him nor get a bounce. But aside from the starts, they dictated the majority of those games. Game 3, they had the Jets on the mat, till Arch took a cheap opportunity for retribution and it completely flipped the script. Allowed the Jets a PP with some emotion, they’re a very emotion driven team, and it gave them the spark they were looking for.

It’s the fact that the Oilers have actually been the better team in a lot of areas that gives me some hope that they’ll be able to make this interesting at the very least.
