We’ve had Markstrom’s number so far this season, so you know he’s due for a few saves too

First game vs the Flames under Sutter, and I have a bad feeling about it. His teams are heavy on forechecking which could give the Oil fits given how awful their defensive zone coverage can be. I hope this is not the case, but we'll see....

Add to that the harassment Connor will surely take. Hope the refs are complete tools tonight, and Wednesday for that matter.
Also... how huge would it be for this team if Kass is back and plays like contract year Kass?

I hope the Oilers break up McD and Leon. If the Oilers have the loaded up line, the Flames are going to just play completely lock down, do nothing, lay on McD and Leon defense against it. You can't have a second line putting up zeros for goals. I just don't think a Nuge lead line can generate enough offense.
I think it's time to play Kahun. Message has been sent. P. Russell brings you nothing. He got set up point blank, in the slot for a 1 timer by Leon and couldn't score.
If Kassian is ready to go, I would play Kassian tonight. If Kassian is ready to go, for lines I would have:
Kassian - McD - JP.
Nuge - Dra - Yamo
Ennis - Khaira - Arch
Kahun - Haas - Chiasson
So both Shore and P.Russell are out. I put Kassian in with McD because if he is going, I think he will bring a ton of energy just being back in the line up. Sutter is going to demand his guys be physical and chippy and grind it out. I could see him flying around hitting everything that moves tonight.

It should be physical. I do not think it will be high scoring. Not unless Sutter's team has a lot of breakdowns.

Sutter Schmutter.
Man, I hope the Oilers destroy them tonight. Just destroy the narrative. In his first go-around as Flames coach, Sutter would apparently circle all the Oilers games on the schedule and tell the team they just needed to make sure they won those games. It would feel great to just completely put the boots to his team.

If we lose though...oh man. Would mean Sutter has improved his coaching to a whole new level. 111%.

Mark Spector has already got the article written if we lose to the Flames in this one.
"Darryl Sutter has forged the team anew in his image. Gone are the soft Flames that have lost so many times to the Oilers this year, replaced by a team focused on work ethic, and a lunch pail mentality, much like their coach, who is a farmer. Draisaitl also had some body language that was bad. Complacency is just a six-letter word for failure!"

Leon - McD- Yamo
Ennis - Nuge - JP
Shore - Khaira - Arch
Neal - Haas - Chiasson
Nurse - Barrie
Lagesson - Larsson
Russell - Bear

I think the Oilers are a deeper team when Leon and McD are split up. I just don't think Nuge is a capable 2nd line center. I would love to be proven wrong.
Very happy P. Russell is out of the line up as I do not think you can have guys playing who's sole purpose is to just give guys a rest. You have to contribute something. Leon set him up for a point blank look in a premium spot with time and pass with a pass right on the tape, he drills it into the goalie for an easy save. You will never score if you can't bury one from there. Useless player in my books.
I'd like to see Kahun get back in but the Flames are going to play an aggressive game so maybe that played a part.

As long as the Oilers bring their workboots and show up ready, they'll be fine. I'm worried they won't take this seriously and will get plowed over.

I am not sure if Tipp is the right coach, but I love that we can flip so many things up against our opponents. 97/29 can have anyone on their wing and they will be a great line. You can split them put plugs on 97's line and it is still dangerous, while loading up the Drai line.
I think this team will match Calgary's intensity, I just do not know what is going to happen between the pipes. The save percentage does not pass my eye test.

what if you did exactly that.
Neal mcD Chiasson
Khaira Drai Haas
Yams Nuge JP
Ennis Shore Arch
that actually still looks like a decent lineup to me. Maybe even a little better balanced... Nuge on the 3rd line center, but not playing with plugs will be able to perform better vs lesser competition.
Go me for solving this riddle. I want to be the coach now.

I don't think Khaira has the skill or speed to play top 6. Really what you've done is put Draisaitl on the third line. He needs to generate offence and I don't know if that can happen with those linemates.
You can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you just might find, you can get a lottery pick.

There was a time where I think the Oilers had the guns on the wings to roll three lines deep - but that was in 2015-16 and after that Chiarelli went out of his way to weaken the squad from there. Now, we just have to come up with the best top 6 we can.

At long last Khaira seems to have found a role that he excels in and most importantly he seems to be able to repeat game after game. This team for years has forced guys into positions they were either uncomfortable doing or flat out incapable of doing. They finally seem to have a team where there is for the most part enough depth that guys can be slotted in appropriate spots and guys are just going out there and doing the jobs they are asked to do. Your line suggestions would completely abandon that putting guys out of position and asked to do things they aren't capable of doing.

I think Kassian is ready to go but they'll choose a game where he isn't eventually compelled to drop the mitts.
Looks like Mr. Kahun is getting a major wake up call (I don't think he's injured?), which I think he needed, he was gifted a sweet spot with his buddy Leon, wasn't clicking, time to earn it or get scratched.

I am expecting a split but if there was a way to sweet both, my god the Calgary radio and the melt down would be absolutely GOLD!!
I am absolutely loving the Sutter hiring for the Lames. Being able to listen to Calgary radio, they are all 100% on the Sutter train down there. He walks on water and they see him as the answer. The reason I love it is because with Markstrom and Sutter's style, they will be just good enough to keep the Lames in the dreaded soft middle.
The dreaded middle where you are just treading water. The Nashville Predators are an example. Your team and best players are decent but most aren't elite. But they are just good enough in combination with your coach and goalie to keep you sort of in the hunt. Your GM makes the odd trade he shouldn't (Subban) or signing he shouldn't (Turris, Johanson) because you are "so close". If the sun and moon align, the right players on other teams get hurt at the right time and everything goes perfect, maybe you get to the finals or a deep run like they did once but in reality, you are not good enough to go far but worse, you are not bad enough to get high end picks for players.
I expect the North to be Leafs/Oilers/Jets to battle out for the top 3 spots, it being close between all 3. Then the Habs/Lames will be battle for 4th but there will be separation between the top 3. If the Lames make the playoffs, they will get boot stomped by the top team. They will chalk up the season getting off to a bad start with the wrong coach. Quote how much better their record was once Sutter came in and say they are "so close". Sutter can come on and say he has the goalie, he just needs a little more grit. So he will get the GM to sign some pushing 30's winger/center who was a top 6 guy his whole career but the wheels are about to fall off and the only ones who can't see it is Sutter. Bennett will ascend to one of "his guys" because he will play much better and produce at a mediocre 3rd liner pace just like he was doing for most of his career until recently. They will probably trade one of Gaudreau or Monahan (the soft guys he will say) for a bunch of hard working second/ 3rd liners then setting into the comfy spot of being a 7-10th place team for the forseeable future.
