Good lord. Why!!? 48 NHL games to date with a .901 save percentage. This feels like the Gustavsson signing all over again.

I think this is an AHL signing. Last week Rishaug was saying they were going to sign a minor league goalie. I hope that is this and not an NHL signing.

He was .905 in the AHL last year too...again, maybe a deal they didn't need to spend time on this morning.

Looks like a guy you have in the AHL who if injury happens, can come up to the NHL which you need. They didn't have that guy.

I guess the one thing you can say for this guy is that his .905 was better than the miserable stats all the Condors' goalies put up last year...faint praise though.

The schedule is going to be most likely condensed and if a injury happens, the Oilers don't have anyone who could come up and back up who's ready. Skinner isn't ready.

This potentially means you can get an Oilers jersey with the name Forsberg on in, which is cool. Just not for the Forsberg you wish it was for.

I believe Winnipeg would have had the opportunity to pick him before the Oilers based on last years standings from what I read. The Jets now have too keep him on the active roster and I don't see them doing that long term. So I could see the Oilers probably knowing that. They have seen him get passed over by all the lower teams twice now and might be waiting for the Jets to have to make a move roster wise. IF/when they claim him, he could go immediately to the taxi squad.

Maybe the Jets expose Broissoit to waivers to keep Forsberg and the Oilers get to reunite with one of their lost tenders.

This is getting kind of stupid and the NHL should have made special rules so teams could have a 3rd goalie on the taxi squad but not have to go to waivers. To avoid teams hiding big ticket guys for free, treat them exactly like they do normally for the AHL. You can bury whoever you want in the minors if their contract allows it but all you get is just over 1 mill of cap relief. So if some teams wants to have a 3 mill taxi squad goalie, have at it but 2 mill counts on your cap like normal. With Covid, it's different than an injury. You know when a guy is hurt. But a goalie could just be in the area of someone that has it or they get a false positive and all of a sudden, that goalie or goalies aren't available and it's mass chaos.

The waiver rules are pretty ridiculous, the guy gets ping-ponged between 3 teams in 3 days, and in the end loses his best chance to further his career, the original purpose of waivers was to prevent a team from burying NHL caliber players in the minors to stockpile, denying the player a chance at an NHL job if he had the talent to start for other teams.
Here he's actually losing his best chance at an NHL job, he goes from a team that would've had him on the game day roster yesterday (due to Smith's ailment), to a team that already has a young #2 back up in Broissoit, and a Vezina candidate ahead of him. The point of waivers was to increase the players chances at getting a real NHL job, not make it worse.

There should be a penalty to teams that put players on waivers again just after they just claimed him, like they have to hold him on the roster for at least 30 days or get penalized..

You're right, especially with covid rules, you could have two guys out and not actually test positive just due to proximity to someone that had.. Canucks lost TJ Miller for a few games just because he was in contact with J. Benn who tested +, Miller didn't test + but he got isolated anyway.

And, believe it or not, the Canucks will be without Miller longer than they will be without Benn. Heard this Wednesday night prior to the broadcast.

This is a definate unforseen part of waivers that is nuts!

If the Jets want Forsberg on their Taxi Squad they will have to put him on waivers again.......The Oilers probably claim him......Then if the Oilers want him on their taxi squad he will have to go on waivers again.

This could be a merry go round and round & never stops. The league needs to quickly figure this out before it becomes a true nightmare.

I thought I heard that if the Oilers claimed him he would have been eligible to be assigned to the taxi squad. Could be wrong

Yeah this ain't over for Forsberg, just checked WPG roster and they still have to sign Roslovic, which could put them in a cap squeeze and require more roster maneuvers..

It's such a tough spot for goalies. The have to be good enough to potentially play in the NHL, but not valuable enough where not playing is seen as damaging their future. This is compounded by the Oilers having their AHL team in California.

Further to my point about the NHL screwing the pooch on the goalie situation. The border. Any player you get from an American team has to quarantine for 2 weeks once they get to Canada. So unless that changes, a Canadian team is screwed because they only can deal with Canadian teams. So that's what makes what Carolina did so shady. They did it straight up for a stupid paper transaction and they screwed over a Canadian team in the process and the NHL allowed it.

Safe to say Forsberg is the hottest goalie prospect since Carey Price came into the league?

Forsberg’s are always good. It is a universal rule.

I’m too lazy to search hockeydb to confirm this, but it feels right.

Safe to say Forsberg is the hottest goalie prospect since Carey Price came into the league?

Forsberg’s are almost always good. It is a universal rule.

Peter was my favourite hockey player, who never played with the Oilers.

Is Anton a more ready goalie than Brossoit? I’m not sold on Brossoit being the answer.

Yes - if the Oilers get him back, he's been through the whole league on waivers. If the Jets keep him indefinitely, then we're screwed though.

I imagine the Jets weren't happy to lose Comrie and felt they legitimately needed a third goalie though. The bad part of that, is that they may just keep him on the roster. Because of the taxi squad, it doesn't really hurt them that much. They one less extra skater on the active roster, but if someone's hurt, then they put them on IR and can call someone up from the taxi squad with no issues at all.

Are the Moose in Winnipeg this year? Or did they have to move somewhere for the year?

The bad news about all of this is that I think Winnipeg isn't likely to quickly surrender him.

Looks like we should've grabbed Carolina's guy, if only out of spite.

You can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you just might find, you can get a lottery pick.

Honestly, with the emergency taxi call up rules this year it makes a lot of sense to carry 3 goalies on your 23 man roster and not risk this waiver crap.

Sounds weird to say, but the Oilers have defensive depth. I would have gladly lost Big Willy on waivers and kept a capable spot start nhl goalie.

Hilariously, wanna-be sportswriter David Staples is floating out that the Jets may have only done this to screw with the Oilers...

icon_rolleyes

Takes all of five seconds to realize that the Jets just lost their #3 guy and this is replacing that.

Oilers claim 31 year old Goalie Trevor Grosenik from LA. Undrafted and a journeyman AHLer.

Had okay numbers last year. 20-9-3 in the AHL last season with a 2.29 GAA and a .920 sv%.

Likely a better option to backup Koski than Skinner. Good claim.

Literally 50% of his NHL starts are shutouts. We're gonna need a bigger checkmark.
