You know Gene, I have learned to live with the schtick. It’s fine. I’ve accepted that. I can easily live with the embarrassment because it is unique....I guess.
But for the love of god. Please do something with that lid.
One or the other? Perhaps I should learn to make a poll. The lid or the schtick?
I’m leaning towards fixing the lid. You should never look like you just pulled a helmet off after 3 periods of hockey unless you are the person being interviewed.

I’m done with Gene. Quietly he’s been here since 2006. I think his puns chased Pronger out of town. I blame Gene for everything.

I feel his true element would have been holding a microphone at Stampede Wrestling in the 70’s.
Not PR’ing a team possessing the greatest NHL player since Wayne Gretzky.
But if I had to pick. It’s that greasy mullet. My kids would smother me with a pillow in my sleep if I was that stupid. And I’m not on TV 3 times a week. It’s enraging.

Gene is the one part of Oilers hockey that doesn’t attempt to be polished, professional, and high end (despite being slapped together and over priced - cough ice district). Gene isn’t great but he’s of the people and for the people.
That being said he could be replaced by a sock puppet or Rishaug. I don’t care about the in game host.

I tell you what was funnier than Gene was the Carolina feed on Fox, half way through the period they decided to tell the world that the Oilers were a one line team and that line was led by McDavid. They've not been watching or researching our most productive line of late then..

I feel the game inside the game gets him going.
If I was an opposing coach I would advise my team to not chirp the leagues top scorer.

I went to the Calgary game... it was fun and interesting but watching hockey from 35 rows up in a CFL stadium is difficult. And cold. I’m thankful that I got to see one though.

You should go once. It is a neat experience. If you are going purely for the quality of view or even the quality of play you will leave disappointed. I dont think there is anywhere in a football stadium that is a great hockey view and the play can often be multiple levels below a regular game but it is a lot of fun.
I have been to two of them now, one I was working and one I paid to go to and both were a good time.

Raiders vs 49’ers.
49’ers won. It was a it ugly outside and on the BART back to San Francisco. Let’s just say we were happy we were not wearing anything red.

The third goal was 100% caused by Archibald or benson falling down and confusing the Canes breakout.

While he is far from perfect your constant criticism of Klefbom is confusing to me. He has been far and away our best defenceman this season. I would go as far to say he is our first, legit, top pairing player in a very long time.
He logs high minutes, against top competition, and holds his own on most nights. Leaving the zone is the most calm, best passer and best skater back there. In the other end he is a pretty big part of the PP.
Outside of physical/toughness traits he the teams best D-man in every aspect of the game. I am not saying he is a top ten guy in the league or Norris candidate but he is damn good and counted on to do a LOT for the team. Our d group is likely middle of the pack this year, take him out and they are likely bottom 5.

I shudder to think where the Oilers would be in the standings if he was out for 4-6 weeks this season.

Nurse rarely gets beat because of a bad pinch or misses a guy getting behind him, that's Klefbom's biggest problem, and just needs basic awareness.

My criticism is consistent because his brain farts are consistent.

Klefbom has roughly 50 chances a game to make a mistake, he makes very few/game. I would guess he has a 95% success rate on making good decisions.
His importance to this team cant be overstated.
Do you think there is a better defenceman on the team? If so who and why?

More impressive stuff from the Canes tv crew... With the score at 2-1 "the next goal will be an equaliser or an extension to the lead"
I tell you what they are making other teams commentators sound like world beaters.
Great to see Benson grab his first point, with that now done his first goal and Russell to score in the third... Really impressed by the performance, they've knuckled down and are grinding this scoreline so far.
