Only thing I can think of is that he wants Connor to be fresh if they had to go to OT. Lo and behold....

There are better options than Lucic when you are down a man though.
He goes into the corner to support, then does a weaksauce pile of nothing play on the guy in the corner, allowing an unobstructed pass back to the point. Then he just coasts watching the guy on the point instead of going to the players open in front. By the time he realizes.....too late. Just a whole bunch of watching.
