The #Oilers have acquired goalie Hayden Hawkey from @CanadiensMTL in exchange for a 5th round selection at the 2019 #NHLDraft. Hawkey went 24-12-3 with a 2.04 GAA & .919 save % as a junior with @FriarsHockey in 2017-18.

So PC is hoarding goalies now, or is Hayden the third cousin of an OBC's sister-in-law?
Wells, Skinner, Starret, Hawkey, and Rodrigue, plus Talbot, Koskinen, and Montoya (assuming we don't sign Brossiot again). I am assuming he will go back to College, so PC better have a contract in place, otherwise it's a waste of a bullet.

W the F ?
Man, we have a lot of tenders;
1) S. Skinner, 2) S. Starrett, 3) Wells, 4) now O. Rodrigue, ... 5) spend 2.5 Mil on M. Koskinen, 6).. still have A. Montoya on the books, 8) and now add H. Hawkey ??
This list excludes 9) L. Brossoit, with the obvious expectation that he will be moving on .. and starring on another team.. Doobie Part II ...
I guess O. Rodrigue goes back to the Q for 1 or 2 .. and Hawkey stays in NCAA, maybe the minors line-up looks like this fro 2018 ..
AHL
Wells
Montoya
ECHL
Skinner
Starrett

Maybe they just wanted a guy the coaches can call "Hey Hockey"?

Let me put your mind at ease about LB becoming the next Dubnyk. LB is not an NHL goalie. He is large enough to put up okay-ish numbers in the lower leagues but that's not enough at the top level. And, if they ever get around to putting in the new equipment standards, he will be even more exposed.
You can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you just might find, you can get a lottery pick.

You might be right, but I remember thinking Doobie's career was over after he left here, he re-invented his game and become a Vezina candidate. Brosoitt could do the same with the right attitude. I'll have to trust D. Swartz knows what he's doing, with Brosoitt, as well as drafting Rodrigue, and acquiring H. Hockey.

Think today's trades might indicate two things:
1) Putting Skinner back in the WHL next year.
2) A lack of confidence in Wells, and Starrett.
I would agree with both. Sometimes it isn't quantity, but quality. Sounds like Hawkey shoots past a bunch of them on depth chart.
Also, what a great last name.
AHL:
Hawkey
Montoya
ECHL:
Starrett
Wells
CHL:
Rodrigue
Skinner

I know nothing of this prospect except that he has the perfect last name.
The very definition of insanity is doing the exact same thing expecting different results.

I wonder if they are working on a deal to trade Montoya? I thought Skinner was old enough to turn pro. Goaltending is a bit of voodoo so hopefully some of them eventually turn out.

If someone ever disses his sport he can be like, "Hey! Don't be Hayden Hawkey!"

I thought we could just call him Mr. Hawkey.
Move over Johnny Hockey...we've got Hayden Hawkey!

Funny when I first saw his name I thought "Hawk Eye", great name for a goalie! Haha took me a while to see it was more like "Hockey".

Hayden Hawkey has been doing well. I wouldn't be too surprised to see the Oilers sign him up when his NCAA playoffs are over and send him to Bakersfield to give Starrett more help than he has been getting from Wells, Skinner, and Montoya. Providence plays Boston College this coming weekend in the NCAA tournament.

https://www.uscho.com/2019/03/14/ten-semifinalists-named-for -2019-mike-richter-award-including-2018-winner-morris/
"Past winners include Morris (2018), Tanner Jaillet (Denver, 2017), Thatcher Demko (Boston College, 2016), Zane McIntyre (North Dakota, 2015) and Connor Hellebuyck (UMass Lowell, 2014)."
Hawkey had a pretty decent NCAA season in Providence. At 24, he is probably close to the top of his game; maybe even mature enough not to get screwed up by Oiler coaching and development.

Still want them to sign Cale Morris too.
We need a good homegrown goalie.

Once his season ends I think the oilers have until July 15th to sign him or he becomes a UFA. This is his final year of UNI I think
