Don't know if anyone noticed or if it was even talked about or even cares but the Oilers Website has MacT's listed as Sr. Vice President, Hockey Operations. Scott Howson is now Sr. Vice President, Player Personnel.

Well not srprising but did anyone notice Bucky survived and seems to have gotten a promotion. They also added David Pelletier? Figure skating? I could see adding a speed skater as coach but are players going to do triple sow cows now?

I'm pretty sure that power skating came out of figure skating.

Hasn't Pelletier been on staff for a while now?

EDIT: And Bucky got his "lateral" move in 2014. So this will be his second year as a Manager...did he take over for Moores and Sillinger?

Yes, Pelletier was hired prior to last season.

Does not hurt to have two former NHL GMs on staff. There is still lots of work to do after Chia makes the major decisions.

The Oilers also hired Ian Herbers (U of A coach) as a new assistant coach:

http://oilers.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=774771&navid=DL|E DM|home

He will apparently replace Rocky Thompson as the "eye in the sky" guy.

He is also an Oilers alumnus (22 games with the Oilers during the 93-94 season)--it seems the Oilers can never quite resist having a few aboard.

It does if those two former GMs are wildly incompetent.

Reverse tie breakers. If Chia is having trouble with a decision, he asks MacT and Howson, then does the opposite.

Winning 2 CIS championships in a row is a major feat, regardless of him being a former Oiler or not.

Besides, it's actually three incompetent former GMs on staff.

How does one become a Extra Senior Ultra VP? It seems like we have a few on staff.

What a bunch of loser titles... "Oh no, I can see your confusion... I'm not just the VP, I'm the Senior VP."

Lame.

Great sounding boards. Ask for their opinion and then do the opposite cuz you now know its not the right thing to do ...at least most of the time.

MacT's biggest contribution right now would be to try to sell Nikitin's value to other teams. Him and Howson should be calling up every GM telling them how awesome Nikitin is. It'll sound genuine because they believe it. Maybe they can get lucky and convince someone to become the 3rd person on Earth that believes it too.

I would put this in speculation but I believe it may explain MacT's hanging around.... Is anyone familiar with the ownership structure of the Oilers? I heard a rumor today that MacT owns a share of the team (likely very small). Can anyone give any input to this?? If this is crazy, please understand that I also think it sounds off the wall..... but it came from someone I trust implicitly.

I would doubt it very much. We know for a fact that MacT was not part of the previous ownership group (EIG). Why would Katz want to sell MacT an even small part of the team? And why would MacT want it? If Craig had a spare $10 mill kicking around and wanted to invest it with Katz, he would be much better buying some property or something with him instead of getting less than 5% of the Oilers.

Good god. You can't just bump a thread like this. It rings too true as a potential boomerang again...
